Preview Changes vs Hawthorn

I had a bit of a look at some precedent, for whatever that's worth in the circus that is the MRP.

As best I can tell, the last person to be suspended for any incident involving the fence was Andrew Walker in Round 1, 2014. He was also the last person whose actions were deemed intentional, not careless*.

Comparing McGovern's to the Zuurhar and Frawley ones, I think it's a fine. Careless, medium impact, body - fined, clear to play.

I could see them arguing head rather than body, which might be a tough spot because anything above low impact is a week where the head is involved (and it surely won't be low impact unless Guelfi comes back all clear from his scans). An injury occured, so the AFL will make a scene. If they call it intentional, the MRP thread will be legendary.

*Apologies if the cursory Google search let me down. If there's footage of any suspensions since 2014, please let me know.

Great research and I agree it shouldn't be a suspension but we all know how this is going to go.

The AFL frankly doesn't care how dangerous an act is. If you hurt someone though, they'll come for you. That's the point of difference between this and I think all the incidents you show in the video. Gov is gone.

Gov will get a week

Nothing surer than the AFL taking an opportunity to rub out one of our best players. Wouldn’t be surprised if Christian gave him two matches in order to force us to contest it down to one

OUT - Schofield, Ollen, Marsden

IN - Barrass, Nicnat, Rioli

I thought Nelson did a great shutdown job in Tippa, who he kept to 6 touches and 1 goal. No reason why Cole comes back.

Schofield knows he's always going to be 3rd fiddle depth to Barrass and McGovern, that's pretty straight forward.

Nicnat for Ollen is about the only debatable call. Harsh on Oscar, but the pro's probably outweigh the cons. Nicnat plays FWD/Ruck with Hickey.

I like the idea of giving Petro a rest. He did kick two but he also missed a couple of pretty easy ones - and I didn't see too much of him for most of the game. He's had an unbroken spell and I think a couple of games with the BEagles might make him realise he can't take it for granted. But I can see why the MC like him, I think he'll be a long term player but he might just benefit from a bit of a rest - and a rocket. That could then mean Cameron gets a couple of games. I think Petro is in our best 22 but we need to increase our pool of AFL standard players. So give Cameron a couple, let him find out what it is all about. And let's face it he probably isn't going to play that well every week, but it gives him an idea of what it's about and gives the MC a chance to really get a handle on his talent.
BTW, I am happy picking the best 21 available each week with one spot for a 'development player' (Cameron, Rotham, MAllen etc). Then as the final half dozen rounds approach we pick our best 22 - having seen a few of the fringe players in action.
I take it you watched the game on TV? Because if you watched at the ground, you would see Petch do a mountain of work up and down the ground. I can’t understand why people want him out?

I love him as a player, works hard both ways, gets to the right places, kicks a couple of goals as a small forward and yet people want him dropped? WTF? He isn’t going to learn anything in the WAFL, he belongs at this level and needs to stay and develop right where he is.

Nelson had a solid game. Both his games he has come in and done his job.

Shep got involved in a lot more attacking play last night off the back of Nelson locking down on the Bombers medium forwards. That's a win for us structurally.

It’s not really about Petch though it’s I presume to see more of that Rioli,Ryan and Cameron combo in action..

Young player with lightning pace who hits the scoreboard.

Better drop him for only kicking 2 goals and not 4.

No, it’s been a developing theme on here for a few weeks. Someone suggested he needed a rest (?) and everyone has jumped on the band wagon. He has more runs on the board than Cameron.

Masten has to go, he just really offers nothing

He isn't a defensive minded mid who pressures or tackles (unless you count arm waving, then he would be a league leader)

He doesn't hurt you, or even hit, the scoreboard

And for all his vaunted running power, he has never been an accumulator of the ball.

We are far better off without him

Ins: Barrass
Outs: Mcgoven if suspended, Schofield if he's not

Ins: Rioli
Outs: Petch

Ins: Naitanui
Outs: Hickey

Some tough calls to be made next week. Personally I thought the balance of the team was just right last night so getting an extra tall in would through this out. Harsh to drop Hickey after his good game but playing Hickey and Naitanui doesn't seem like a good fit IMO.

Petch is in need of a spell to regain some touch at WAFL level. His 2 goals last night flattered him a bit as his kicking and decision making have been off the last few weeks.

Can’t see Hickey going out.

There’s no way NN can lead the ruck after a second knee reco with a 20 year old 192cm Oscar Allen as his backup. Nic traditionally never played heaps of minutes so I’d rather see Hickey lead the ruck with Nic taking majority of CBs with long stints on the bench.

Up until last night, Petrucelle had kicked 1 goal in the past month.

That's why people have been suggesting he's due for a rest. His output had clearly slowed down. It's not a conspiracy theory.

8 disposals and 2.5 tackles a game was his return from rounds 9 to 12.

He was better vs Essendon with 10 touches 2 goals and a tackle, as well as blowing a couple of other opportunities. Probably could've kicked 4.

But with Cameron surprising everyone with his pressure at the top level and kicking 2 himself, Petch could find himself making way due to team balance.

Doubt it will happen personally. I'd give all of Ryan, Petch, Rioli and Cameron a game.

A significantly better performance than Cole has produced this year. Hopefully Nelson gets a solid crack at being the lockdown guy.

I don’t mind it either when he looks to run out of defence. He just needs to lower the eyes.
