The Butters Cup: Changes vs Port in Ballarat

Reckon they should give this developing midfield combo a crack at Port without Treloar.

The warmer climes of the Territory seems like it would be more conducive to an aging body's return.

Jongys return in that freezing Canberra game in 21 still haunts me. What a medium to long term disaster that game was.
We can't afford to drop any more games needlessly. Play our strongest lineup.

We don't even have a timeline on it.

It went from indefinite to 3 months a while back (so return just after the bye) then back to indefinite.

It seems a fairly long time away if at all
Yep, but this is Weightman we're talking about. If it was season, wouldn't it be evidenced by an update from 'indefinite' to 'season'.

Weightman would be $1.10 to play this season.

What's going around at the moment might be our strongest line up (midfield) if you factor in continuity.

The demolitions of opposing midfields in the last 2 outings has been so complete I'd be very reluctant to toy with it unless forced to do so through injury to or management of those who've played to date.

But the cold and the sh1t as much as anything (if it is going to be like that). Those conditions tend not to be kind to people with a soft tissue injury history.

True, but hard to argue that Treloar is not a member of our strongest team when fit given 2024 AA. May need to restrict his minutes and / or expect a slightly lesser performance first up (a bit like JJ against the Bears) given he has missed so much footy.

There is also the argument that it could be as much system as personnel that is the key to recent domination.

So I don't think we should choose to play Treloar or not based on venue / weather.

We don't need to rest anyone for the sake of it. The bye isn't even that far away
The bye is only four weeks away, you're right, but in that four weeks we go Ballarat > Darwin > Docklands > Geelong. If Treloar is ready to go, then it wouldn't shock me to see Libba managed, more than likely in Darwin though.

I'd rather rest him after Darwin given the opponents

I edited my post to put a bit more weight on the conditions factor. Cold conditions and soft tissue injury history.

My gut feel is there is too much to lose if they encounter bad conditions and play Treloar.

On exposed team form, Treloar may only be the difference between a 6 goal win and a 7 goal win. I'd wait one more week ....

18 degrees is bad conditions?

If that's what it is then no it's not, in which case Hynes probably gets a rest.

But, how confident can you be in a Victorian weather forecast 6 days out?

Put it this way, if it's cold and sh1t on the day, I'd play the general soreness card and pull him out.
pretty consistent for most of the week before getting up to late teens Friday.

If anyone has 2 tickets and they think it's too cold I'm more than happy to take them off your hands. I usually go to all Ballarat games but missed out this time because of less available given the works.

At least the weather will be good in the Rat this Saturday. Sunny and 19 degrees forecast at this stage. Sitting in the bistro at North Ballarat Sports Club ATM. Chilly and overcast today but the oval looks great, no footy played on it over the weekend. Watching the workers dismantle the video scoreboard. They only started back working today having taken a full week off after Easter. Inside the club, workers are removing the wall in the back sports lounge to create one big room with an open view out onto both ovals.

WB v PA

PA has won five of its past six matches, with the only defeat in that period being the 2021 Prelim Final.

PA has a 2-0 h2h record @ Ballarat.

The last time the WB beat PA in Victoria was 2015. That was 14 matches ago.

Nb: The last four times we've beaten PA, they were all on their home ground. They're actually my four favourite victories of all time against them.

I just have no idea why we didn’t give Ballarat a rest this year, with all the construction going on. The fact that maybe 5,000 fans will turn up to watch a game — a game that, if it were played at Marvel on the same day, would get a crowd of around 30,000 — just seems wrong.

What will playing at Ballarat achieve? I gather that with such a small crowd, we won’t have people eating and dining around the town. the only business that might make some money, it’s probably the KFC on the Western Highway on the way home.

We are currently on a bit of a winning streak but are down in membership, and I believe playing this game for around 5000 people to watch doesn’t help regarding getting more members
