In: lamb or Jetta (might give Jetta another run in wafl)
Out: yeo

Yeo is flat tracker. Lamb could be better in terms of taking big grabs in half foward.
Have you seen him play in EP? Might as well say McInnes will be picked for his big clunking marks.

Out: Cripps, In: McGinnity.

This is as much to give McGinnity a run as to give Cripps a bit of a chance to find some more of the footy at East Perth. Heard people saying Cripps was putting on a lot of pressure off the ball, which is fair enough, but in the tougher games against the good clubs, and also keeping an eye on finals, if Cripps is getting 7-10 possessions and kicking one goal (7 today, kicked 1.2), we might as well have McGinnity in there to compete with the bigger bodies and put the fear of god in some of the opposition.

Highly doubt MC are going to make that move, but I think we should be constantly thinking of the hypothetical of how the team is going to be looking on Grand Final day if we get there, and how the team is going to hold up when the heat would really come on from a Geelong or a Hawthorn, ala last year.

With respect, this is just wrong...on so many levels.

- McGinitty put the fear of God into an AFL player?? What? How? He is hard at it sure. But apart from say, our Jetta, there aren't too many players who would be scared of a bit of bruising. He certainly won't be scaring anyone with his skill level.
- In terms of pressure, Cripps offers just as much if not more.
- in terms of skill Cripps offers waaay more.
- Cripps is slightly out of form, but I didn't think he had a bad game. It's tough for small forwards when your big mates are marking everything coming I50. All you can do is apply pressure. Clear the space by providing leads that open up space, play your role in the defensive set ups and hope you snag a goal here or there. Tick. Tick. Tick and Tick.
- If McGinnity is who we consider to be our next best small forward that can help us win a GF, we are seriously F****d.
- I mean we have seen what Ginners offers. It is not much. Certainly no where near what Cripps offers (at his best). If we are to go down the path you suggest, I'd rather we tried players who haven't had a crack at it yet (or not much of it). Karpany?? Note, have no idea how he is going in WAFL/Reserves. Bennell?? Although we have tried him and he was a bit ho hum. Bit too fumbly and seems like his body plays quicker than his mind can keep up.
- Ginners also has a head like a three day punch drunk Irish beer hall bare knuckle brawler. My daughter's don't like him. ;)

Please no McGinnity. Ever.

Cripps has been in our worst couple every game this year. His tackling pressure is non existent, he's not winning the footy and he's not kicking goals so we'd lose nothing replacing him with McGinnity. Redden and Yeo are the other two who are easily replaceable based on form. In terms of their outputs are easily replaced by the likes of Cole, Nelson, Adamson - perhaps even Lamb. Too comfortable some of these blokes.

Curious as to what you think a small forward's acceptable KPIs should be, noting he doesn't get extended minutes through the middle. He hasn't been in our best, but he IMO hasn't been in our worst given what I think his role is.

From what I can make of our forward structure, it seems Hill has been given license to roam far and wide (why we see him in the backline so often). LeCras and Darling similarly but don't seem to get much past the defensive arc too often as n open play. Kennedy and Cripps seem to be required to be our furthest forwards. Doesn't mean they aren't thrown a round a bit but that's what I notice most often.

If we have the ball we tend to go looking for our big forwards most often and that takes him out of the play. All he can offer is a crumb (along with LeCras and Hill and any other fwd resting mid) or if they win the ball, defensive pressure, which I think he is doing. His tackling has been off a little (as in, he lays them but I've noticed a few where he has let them get the ball out). Apart from that, not really sure what he is expected to do.

Yeo had 20 touches, 6 tackles and a goal yesterday. You think that's worth being omitted from the side for an unproven rookie?

If anyone should get the blowtorch it's Redden or Mackenzie. Redden has played midfield for years, is supposedly in the prime of his footballing career and yet simply cannot find the football. Mackenzie looks like a WAFL player at the moment.

No changes unless they are forced. Think people are being a bit harsh on Redden. He had 9 tackles today (equal most with Priddis, and didn't even start out of the middle) and pressured well. He is playing a role at the moment. Not all our mids can get 25 possessions plus... there are only so many to go around! A good tackle is just as valuable as a good possession to the team.

He had 7 tackles against the Saints, 3rd highest in the team. Not bad for a small forward who isn't around the contest in the middle.

of course they wouldnt because its a stupid move. going backwards. if that was the case may as well play lucas.

jetta or nelson would be the only two changes i could see happening.

Selection is a matter of :
1. Replacing those who are injured or who are in the needing a rest
2. Sending a message for those who did not perform well
3. Retaining players who did their job well
4. Rewarding the players not in the side who are pushing hard at training and WAFL
5. Getting the balance right in terms of experience and development

and what most people fail to look at when making a big statement

6. Reviewing the opposition and seeing where their strengths and weaknesses are and understanding the right match ups.

So selections on above criteria
1. Injury worries from what I saw on Sunday are Darling and Wellers. Not sure who else and will find out more mid week.
2. Non performers - no passengers on Sunday but I personally want to see more from McKenzie, Redden and Cripps. Their 2016 has been a bit disappointing. It felt better with Le Cras spending more time in the forward line and hence Cripps is spending more as a midfielder and not setting the world alight but still a pass mark.
3. Most of the team did their job well against St Kilda.
4. Rewarding training and WAFL form - Barrass has been knocking at the door all season, Nelson has responded beautifully in EP and showing he can deliver in the midfield, Jetta did the right thing but it is only 1 game so possibly too early, McGinnity has apparently been really good at training and pretty good at EP and Cole has been great along side Barrass.
5. Love to see Cole given a chance but would probably wait until the following week against the Suns. Lamb is a little inconsistent still.

6. Port. They are missing quality talls in Lobbe, Ryder, Schulz and Carlile. Only other critical person in/out is Robbie Gray and he is a test.
That means we can make changes at the selection table if we want as we have height to our advantage. Playing the same 22 and ignoring who you are up against is insane.
. Their forward line is easily covered and we could decide to move McGovern up forward if Darling is injured. Problem if Wellers is out is who to play on Wingard.
. Their defence is small with only Jonas (188 cm) and (Hombsch (193 cm) needing to cover Kennedy, Lycett and Darling. We would want to continue to expose their lack of height.
. Trengrove in the ruck means we start with a massive advantage and we should dominate the centre bounces assuming NicNat/Lycett play.

Main focus for me will be extracting the ball from winning clearances. Overall a little concerned on our pace and going to tall (especially in defence).

My change is basically only Nelson in.
If no injuries, then give McKenzie a rest and play Nelson down back with him providing some rotation through the midfield.
If Darling injured, move McGovern to CHF and play Nelson down back with some rotation through the midfield.
If Wellers injured, bring in Nelson as a direct replacement.

Cripps is a natural footballer. If his performance is down I'm betting dollars to donuts he's still carrying a niggle or two. Anyone know if that's the case?

If so I'm not against giving him time to recuperate - he is absolutely no question best 22 and if we are making a run this year we need him 100% come the business end.

Tackle stats can also be overstated. It's not as if he was winning possession with each one. Good to see Redden applying pressure but he had what, two touches to half time?

We need players to do damage both ways and Redden hasn't being playing anywhere near the level he's capable of. Needs to play well against Port to keep his spot with the likes of Nelson and Cole performing strongly in the 2nds.

Agreed only make changes if needed or for injuries. Given Port are missing Lobe, Szchulz, Ryder and Monfres we can expose them with our talls.
