Can Butcher ruck?

If he can't improve his set shot, I dare say he will evolve into the mobile ruck type. For me the role of the second ruck, it is not about winning, rather just competing.

The other role, would be the CHB. We have seen players like McPharlin go from forward to having a very successful career in defence.

With Pittard and O'Shea now in the team and Broadys shocking performance I reckon he is a very likely sub candidate.
I would prefer if it was Wingard.

Broadbent should play in the backpocket and take the kickouts.

I loathe the idea of using the sub role as "punishment". If they were bad enough, drop them. Not this stupid half measure.

I've been off Mitchell since the Sydney game , I think Ken must be wanting him to play a Puopolo type role that he does for Hawthorn , tackling , tagging and pinch hitting when he can go offensive .
Sound thinking but Mitch doesn't seem to have the skills at this point in time , he's a straight liner .
Maybe if he works on his skill and agility but for now he's not a best 22 .
Moore and or Newton seem more up to AFL level to me .

I've suggested Butcher at CHB over the years and reckon now would be a good time to try.

IN: Stewart, Clurey, Logan
OUT: Monfries, Mitchell, Cassisi

SUB: Wingard (We are forgetting he is only 20 years old, bring him on at 3/4 time and throw him in the middle for some late game run)

No way for me personally do you use Wingard as a sub.He is to valuable and skillful to be sub and I feel we will lose to much X-factor and what not forward.Plus if we do it the best small can roll over to Robbie Gray and we will lose to much both ways with Chad as sub.Just my 2 cents on that matter

Fair enough mate, I think throwing Hartlett, White and Polec fwd in patches during the game while they tag Gray would help.

While they are fwd we have Boak, Ebert, Wines, Cornes, A.Young still in the middle. O'Shea can play halfback/wing as well at times.

Like the idea ya have there it's not that we don't have the quality to have Wingard as a sub me personally with the sub you don't use a genuine match winner there.A Aaron Young type is perfect but I'd like to see him get some full games in.Ideally you'd swap him and Mitchell as sub if we keep the same 22 as last weekend but I can't see us doing that.I doubt Moore will come straight back in as much I'd like him to.Would like to see Clurey come in this week and 1 of Butcher or Shaw but can't see that happening on what Kenny said on Saturday night.Even Impey as a sub this week would be ideal as I can't think of a small forward at Richmond unless they throw Martin, Cotchin, Deledio there but Tommy could cover that, and have Clurey and Hombsch on Riewoldt and there other tall.

INS: Butcher, Newton
OUTS: Mitchell, Cassisi
Sub: Monfries
At Etihad so it will be dry. Monfries replaces Butcher if things are not working. Young and Newton must get full games. Reward the players that are in form.

No.

We are about the enter finals, why would we **** around with structure changes now that we should be trying out in preseason.

Replacing who? Hombsch, Carlile and Trengove are our 3 KPD's, with Clurey waiting in the wings as a defender. Unless you are talking about correspondingly turning one of those three into a forward why would you do it?

Wouldn't be surprised if teams are starting to man up real hard on Broadbent. If I was an opposition coach I would love seeing Pittard as the outlet rather than Broadbent creating the offense from deep inside our defensive 50 with his damaging kicking. Can't remember when broady got space and time like pittard has had down there in the last month. Okay maybe I'm just a conspiracy theorist and Pittard just been working harder than broady who is down on form but I think there is more to it than that.

Mitchell just has to go, don't rate him one bit. He runs and runs around like an unregistered dog all game and can only manage 8 or 9 touches and half of them are stuff ups. I haven't really rated him since we have had him, he has done a couple nice things here and there but most of it is really ordinary. Saturday night was the tipping point, i've never been more livid with an individual player since the Pettigrew & Phillips days. Actually there are so many similarities in Phillips and Mitchell its frightening.

There was a group sitting behind me at the game that seriously whinged about Pittard all game, but then actually seemed disgusted at me when i completely lost it at mitchell when he missed that goal, apparently Pittard was by far the worst player on the ground and Mitchell was not too bad. Wtf are people watching. Yes pittard made a couple really bad blues but he has a crack and some of the stuff he does is really good and gets us going, he at least gives us something. We get nothing out of Mitchell
