Dicky Earle has managed to speculate that Port are planning an 'inside job' on Richmond based as far as I can tell on Matt Lobbe's comment in his presser that we have to win inside footy and tackle better. I thought there might at least have been a reference to Ben Newton who can win inside/clearance ball as well as anyone.

Having this wall of four bearing down on you in the next couple of years would be no fun.

Clurey were coming in it would have happened last week but his Sanfl form didn't justify selection nothing has changed this week.... On the other hand Stewart can go forward, back and midfield. If he's training at 100% he should play.
I'd actually like to see both Moore and Stewart in for Cassisi and Mitchell. Moore as sub and Young to get a full game for a change.
Stewart is only a couple of centimetres shorter than Clurey (and Hombsch) and as you say he can play forward, back or through the midfield. He's a good reader of the play and a reasonable contested mark. Moore mightn't have the speed of Mitchell but he is no slouch and can provide a lot of grunt around the ball. For all his pace and defensive pressure, or whatever it is that Ken sees as the reason for having Mitchell in the side, his disposal is poor and he can't take a contested mark.

This is a general broadcast to all those Mitchell detractors.

I hope Mitchell does not get dropped, nor should he.

He gets to a lot of contests. Then carefully watch what he does. I think he is the guy that creates the space for other to work through.... although I think he got shut down a bit on the weekend. He does this too often for it not to be a plan.

Mitchell does his job. He stays.

Etihad suits him, however September football doesn't, catch 22 really...

Everyone should be doing this job. It's like shepherding. It's not 2009 and we shouldn't be rewarding guys simply for effort or for doing the team things. Every bloke in the team should be doing these things, and often are, which is why we had the ascendancy in the clearances on Saturday night.

Aaron Young/Ben Newton/John Butcher/Tom Clurey/A stack of other players can and do block for their teammates. It's a plan for everyone who hasn't got the ball. Put a body on to stop the players around the ball from tackling the ball carrier. It's stoppagework 101.

I mean if that's all we're picking him for, why did we get rid of Matt Thomas?

Doing that and being able to run are not enough to warrant regular selection when we have several players waiting in the wings who can do those jobs and have far more strings to their bow.

And yes Etihad suits him...... had better be a dry September... for a small, seemed lousy in the wet.

This i'll agree with. Etihad does suit him. But getting a game against a horrendously undermanned in the KPD department Brisbane would have suited Butcher.

Mitchell struggled in the wet because we weren't moving the ball quickly or cleanly enough for him to get clear of his opponent while we still had possession. His game style relies on everyone else moving the ball quickly.

Even Westie agrees with me to put Butch back in the team. He said on the news tonight that Ken is getting sick of him going to his office and asking him to play 3 falls. Also mentioned Butch personally. :)
Is El Scorcho actually Westhoff?

PORT Adelaide forward Justin Westhoff has added payback to the growing grudge list driving the Power to snap its two-game losing streak this weekend.
Port travels to Etihad Stadium to face Richmond on Sunday, having suffered three defeats in four weeks and tumbled from dominant ladder leader to sitting third on percentage.
Westhoff, who reaches 150 AFL games, said the Tigers’ 41-point upset at AAMI Stadium in round seven remained a nightmare at Alberton — and one the Power planned on erasing.

While Westhoff said he preferred that three talls play in the forward line, he actually also said that the available talls were not preforming. He mentioned Butch would be nice, but not as a must be in.

I like my version a lot better … I heard he won't play and all the players would strike if Butch wasn't selected ;)

And they went on strike from half time of the Crows game until half time of the Bombers game just to prove that they were serious.

I just don't trust him. I have never noticed him win a one on one contest, and too often seen him burn the easy option/ shot on goal to take him seriously as an afl footballer.

I'm reasonably confident about us breaking our losing streak this weekend back in dry conditions that suit our running gameplan, the only thing changing that is knowing that Ken won't drop Mitchell even though we were technically a man down carrying him the last two weeks.

I'm still not sure what he brings to the side that O'Shea doesn't only more consistent due to his size, experience of 50 games which he'll chalk up this week & ability to intercept the oppositions runs like he did so well against Essendon.

I can't understand why we've put so much game time into Mitch this year at the expense of Cam & I don't buy the argument Hombsch has taken his spot when O'Shea & Pittard could both rotate on a wing if needed. It's going to suck seeing Cam dropped for Bobby when he comes back even though he's playing good footy.

Hopeless below the knees with the ground ball also for a little guy.

rasberries to all of you

It's great to have a favourite player and only see the good he does but for the benefit of the team and club he has to go. Soon.
