Our defence conceded 62 points all up. How is that not a sign of a successful defence? Sure it was slippery but in no way did the conditions limit our scoring power to 7 goals.

For mine, Essendon set out to stop us scoring, anything they got up the other end was incidental. Our backs were hardly poor but I wouldn't claim that game as any sort of evidence that the structure in defence is necessarily a-ok. This week, for instance, under a roof against Riewoldt and Vickery will be a different challenge altogether. That's where the tale will really be told.

And how does this disagree with anything I posted?

Are you under some misguided impression that I think our structure is good?

Nah, that was in reference to your comment that our forward structure hasn't changed - it has, given Westhoff is now forced to spend even less time forward in the absence of Trengove the back up ruckman.

it's gonna be funny if we win and everyone's riding up kens ass again..
You know what we should win. A few weeks ago we all had this penned in. But watching us in the last few weeks we look completely different. We have lost talls and they haven't been replaced. Ken has stuffed with our structure because the Hoff has to go help ruck and go in the back lines. Schulzy is playing so far forward and we are bombing it down to small and not altogether that skilful players (Mitchell and S Gray). So we yes we can complain.

I still expect to win but won't be surprised if we don't. What shits me is that I should be surprised if we lose but I'm not because imo the selection committee have absolutely ****ed up for the umpteenth time. So if we get away with a win i will be pleased but still pissed off with the selection … if that's ok with you … i would hate to be disagreeable

And our kicking for goal was shit because our shit forward structure meant that we rarely had set shots in good positions and subsequently most of our shots were either on tough angles or from players on the run under pressure...

And considering how many Schulz takes from tough angles and nails, it seriously is a wallpaper solution over the cracks. Our gameplan relies on a freakishly accurate kick to disguise the woefulness of our forward delivery. Last time I checked a gameplan that relied of players freakish abilities was Choco territory. If Primus didn't show Motlop the door you can bet he would be Ken's number 1 target!

So yeah, we're sticking to our structure and expecting our players to perform their role. If we continue to have to worst goal kicking accuracy in the league (as we have to the past month) and kick high to Wingard, S.Gray, etc then it will be a very long Sunday, irrespective of who was selected.

The mids just have to lower their eyes, and learn to be a little patient, not just bomb it in when they have chance to look around. Our kamikaze style worked earlier in the season but I'd like to see the boys just be a little more controlled.

As cranky as I am that Butch or Shaw weren't an inclusion this week I am hoping that sheer desire will get us over the line. I'd like to see the desperation we played with in the first few months.

Richmond comfortably. We lose every Thursday night. Crap selections. These selections are joke. Mitchell still getting a game makes me laugh...

Wow someone's overreacting! Lose every Thursday night with crap selections? Yeah those crap selections have got us such a terrible record in the top 4. Mitchell is on the bench and is not guaranteed a game this week either..

FWIW, I don't understand why people are losing it over not playing a third tall forward. Realistically, it's only going to impact the game when Westhoff goes into the ruck, and that is minimal at the most. Lobbe did 90% of the ruck work last week, and it will again be a similar number this week. And that 10% when we have to play a little shorter isn't going to be the difference whether we score 100+ or 60-70 points in the game. We're also playing at Etihad, on a dry track with the roof shut. Don't underestimate the importance of dry weather for our running game. We've been bogged down in wet games all year.

I'm expecting Richmond to play a half of footy but Port will take over in the second half. Richmond have struggled all season to put four quarters where they actually try, together.

Simply put, this game is a must win if Port expects to keep its top 4 chances alive. It is a game they should expect to win, and one which I think they'll win comfortably.

As for the selections, I'm expecting Neade, Newton and Cassisi to be cut from the interchange. In that case, I'd expect Mitchell to be the sub. If Mitchell gets cut instead of Cassisi, Young will once again be the sub.

Richmond have no notable small defenders but unless we play a game where our forwards actually lead to the ball, not run back with it, it won't do us jack shit and will be Schulz vs 3 with not a crumber in sight.

Sometimes in contested situations you have no option but to bomb it long, happens in finals quite alot - we gotta get our structure right.

Thought Clurey should've got a gig. If he performed, we could've given Jacko a shot up forward when he comes back. As for Ken's reasoning with Shaw, I wouldn't say S.Gray or Neade are ready yet. As for Mitchell, never will be ready.

Bobby is back next week Stewart has a run with Magpies this week and comes in. Next week we look a little better.

The only sense I can make of the continual lack of structure selections based on height is that ken realises that in the short term, we don't have the required quality in height to cover injuries, so we damn well have to learn how to play without resorting to the easy option of bombing it down the line. I'm guessing this is all in the name of development I.e. If you're clean enough and quick enough with your ball movement, and smart enough mind you, then talls aren't as required as much as slow predictable movement. It is development forged in fire, as if you don't make smart decisions playing for port Adelaide with our current structure and just opt for the long bomb in etc, you're going to be shown up and we're going to lose games.
If you're going to play the port Adelaide way, these are the times when you have to prove it.

I hope that's ken's reasoning for the selections, otherwise I'm at a loss...

1 forward off Schulz vs Jack, it's not like we can bring in another tall and stretch them.... Lol. Freo are gonna get shaw on the cheap.
So Shaw will walk after kicking one bag in the SANFL.lol.

We are having faith in a system that has been successful for us.
Especially in the dry.
