Another good game! This season is really ticking all the boxes and I’m not just saying that because Collingwood, Port and Carlton are awful.

Sydney and Adelaide played a classic last week and the Swans will be keen to see that they don’t just get praised for effort at the end of this one.

Lewis Jetta returns to face his old side and we all know how well he goes in big games. I’ve printed the missing person posters already.

If it wasn’t for the Eagles embarrassing effort against the Hawks, you’d say their season was tracking along nicely but that loss hangs heavily over the early part of the year.

This is another big challenge against another team on track to challenge and a loss here could raise a lot of questions over the Eagles. Luckily, they are well rested after Richmond forfeited last week’s game.

Still, I always like the Swans at the SCG and I’m picking them here.

Is not a loss that hurts although obviously would prefer a win, it's the effort or lack thereof (as was the case against the Hawks). You have to turn up to play, and may the best team win!

I like McInness but at the SCG I'd go with a pure ruck ahead of a pinch hitter.

Why?

Because the SCG is so short you can play without a chf or a chb. Winning tap advantage anywhere basically provides clean ball use into your forward 50.

So who will win us more taps to advantage? The better ruck.......Giles.

Let me preface this by saying that leading up to the game each week I'm a glass half empty kinda guy and can find plenty of reasons how we could lose (or opposition beat us).

I think this is a critical game for our season though. While there has been a lot of talk about our credentials to contend I think it took a kick in the teeth with that performance against the Hawks, and there is some shakiness in the boys' belief about winning big matches on the road. They are still a young team and they just haven't had enough wins on the road against big opposition yet. Losing to the Swans this weekend just drives that insecurity further. Its a tough venue to win at. We haven't played there for 6 years (be interesting to see how many of the current players have actually played there before). Haven't won there since '99....etc. etc. So there is that. I think the pressure is on them. They know the footy world's eyes will be on them to see if the Hawks game was an aberration or whether there is a bit of soft underbelly to the side (flat track bullies anyone??).

Without getting into the debate about individuals, I think the Swan's midfields are a class (or two) above ours. Doesn't mean they can't be beaten, but on paper I think they are contested beasts and they play the SCG very well. If we don't bring our A-Game we will be blown out of the water before half time, and the Swans don't let teams back in.

Their only 'weakness' is possibly their backline. I think as a collective our forwards have the edge.

Can't believe I'm about to reference the moron, but Brereton made a very good observation in the Crows/Swans game (and then annoyingly proceeded to to harp on about it at every F***** opportunity) that the Swans backs tend to play from behind and struggle with the ball delivered in front of the leading forward. If it's up and unders, their defence is all over it, bit like ours.

I think that will be the key. Our mids have got to keep their composure going I50, and that will be hard with the pressure they will be under. We have a terrible tendency to hoik it on the boot going I50 even seemingly when we have the time to lower our eyes and pick a better option. Last week there were some absolute gems going I50, but watching the game again Kennedy had every right to be filthy with the ball coming in, I counted at least 4 times where he was leading out and Rance was on his hammer and the ball was bombed in and ended going just behind him. I'm sure there were more. We can't do that this week. It'll end up in Buddy or Heeney's hands within seconds and we won't know what hit us.

I'll be at the game and I hope to hell I have something to yell about on Saturday. Who am I kidding - win, lose or draw I'll be yelling at something.

Not concerned at all with our forward line. If we get good supply we should crush their defence. Semi confident our back line can get the job done as well. But like us, if they get good supply then our defence will struggle.

It is all about the midfield and theirs is better than ours with rucks out of the equation. Put a rampaging Nic Nat in to the mix and I'd argue we have the edge in the middle assuming Priddis, Shuey, and Gaff are suitably supported by Yeo, Redden, Jetta and Masten.

I don't see any reason we shouldn't win this if we can burst out of the blocks with good intensity. Reckon this game and Hawks vs Crows are clearly the cracker games of the round.

One week off for the youngsters isn't going to destroy them - they're two young professionals and should travel as emergencies. This game could set us up for the season so feel we need to be ruthless with the selections. Masten, Hill and Cripps need to step up from last week though!

Nothing to do with the team selection, but have noted the last 5 times we have played the Sydney Swans it has been played at Domain/Subiaco. That's quite strange isn't it? Shame the trend doesn't continue I always thought one year it was supposed to be played at home, and the next year when playing the same side it was reversed and played at the opposing teams home venue. Just my curiosity.
