Rotham has been playing fairly average for a while. His ball use and movement is too conservative, especially when there are options. Lot of competition for HBF in our team. šŸ˜„

Cole and Duggan are fully developed, what you see with both of them is as good as it gets and it ainā€™t great with either. Rotham still developing and performs better than both of them most of the time. Insane selection.
All coaches have their favourites and obviously Cole and Duggan are in Simmo basket of favs.

Iā€™ve found myself getting really frustrated with Rothamā€™s ball movement and the time he takes to make a decision, particularly when Iā€™m in the stands and I can see thereā€™s options on.

Having said that, Iā€™m not sure itā€™s the sort of problem that gets better when heā€™s out of the team.

Both of them were dropped during 2019, neither played during the finals so if theyā€™ve achieved favourite status itā€™s pretty recent.

Just staggered by Rotham being dropped mate

Iā€™m a little surprised by that too, but more on the basis that both Witherden and Foley being recalled, less about Duggan and Cole retaining their spots.

Would any of those players dropped be considered senior players?
Asking for a friend.

Nope.

Darling, Kennedy, Cripps, Gaff, Kelly, Yeo, McGovern, Barrass, Sheppard, Hurn is the list of undroppable players.

Well theyā€™ve been dropped, and Simmo doesnā€™t drop senior players, therefore they canā€™t be senior players

Well they aren't any of the above players are they? I've given you the names time and time again.

Instead it's youngsters like Rotham, Petrucelle, Waterman, Ledwards who have been axed. Shock horror.

Is this accurate?

From memory i thought Duggan's omission in 2019 was because he was injured and then failed to win his spot back. He was never actually dropped?

Very interesting additions. I would say few experimental moves that could work for us. First time seeing Witherden and Hurn at the back together. should be interesting and we should utilize that. forward gone smaller bringing Langdon and JJ in for Petch and Ryan and waterman out for Vardy so we have two established rucks so Allen JK and JD play forward. This looks like a much better-balanced side with an x-factor in Ledwards/Foley( switching) to roam and run all day. I see what they are trying to do. This might be just the best 22 we need with probably Ryan coming back in next week.

About the - How do we stop Buddy talk. I think, Yeo is the only one that can realistically stop him but we wont waste Yeo on that. I would try Hurn first. Has the nous to curtail him and the strength to tackle him. After that I'm not sure. Barrass and Gov would be left in Buddies wake. Buddy relies on his movement and speed for his goals, not his marking power.

TBH, I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about Buddy. Even in our wins at home against Syd, he kicks 4 or 5 goals.

Stunned by some of the changes

we got beat up around the ball and all we do is drop a kid and donā€™t bring in another mid

not to mention dropping out best third tall

I get our mids are collectively underdone - not sure how that gets solved by the changes

I like the changes purely because Foley is back and it has rewarded some good form for our small forwards.

It's a shake up alright, a bit different with Vardy in the team, but supply will be key to feed Allen, JD and JK. Surely Darling is due a good game? Midfield needs to fire though or they're not going to get many shots on goal.

Really being hammered home this week that the match committee is on a hiding to nothing, and people will be unhappy no matter what changes they make.

People clamour every week for Nelson and Waterman to be dropped. Theyā€™ve both been dropped.

People have been clamouring for Jones, Witherden and Foley to be recalled. Theyā€™ve all been recalled.

So people decide to fixate on the fact that no Senior Player (see previous definitions) has been scapegoated. And also Langdon got recalled after 20 and three in the WAFL, having been unlucky to be dropped in the first place. Outrageous. Not to mention weā€™ve picked an actual ruckman rather than use our future Coleman Medal winning future captain as a backup for the third week in a row.

Whoā€™d be a selector?

Would have liked to have seen LEdwards get a good crack at it. Last week wouldnā€™t have been easy making way for the established mids and getting a smaller midfield role, even more so when the entire midfield gets pantsed anyway.

I want Oscar full time forward but I donā€™t think we have that luxury if it means bringing in a second ruck for a wet game.. thatā€™s just a bizarre selection to me when weā€™re lacking ground ball ability at the best of times. Edwards for Vardy is the only thing Iā€™d change about the team. Back the kid in for another week after playing a game with the starters.

Happy with Withereden and Foley into defence. Cole and Rotham deserved to be dropped and the two in's improve our rebound. Foley is going to be some player and Witherden is. Barrass getting up is good as it means Allen stays forward.

Vardy is an important structural in. He has been in good form. Good chance we will now control the stop pieces all day (not just when Nic is on) and it means Allen stays forward. If people stopped to think about it, they might recognise that is the only way Waterman gets dropped, so we improve both our ruck and our forwardline.

We've decided to add specialist small forwards instead of adding a mid (and cotton wooling Shuey and Kelly in the forwardline). JJ is a no brainer for Ryan I guess and Petch goes out because he is soft.

I'm not as happy with the final selection. Our mids sucked in a very special way last week and the end result is we dropped young Edwards and bought in Langdon. Dont get that. I would have bought in the best alternate mid, probably West, Hutchings or XoN.

Our whole back 6 are incredibly slow to move the ball and when they do decide to be risky, it results in the ball going over their heads.
I cant think of a player in there that has dare/dash. Can slice the game open like jetta did.
He could at times, but Jetts made blunders also, and wasn't so good defensively.
The only dashy type backliner now is Shep, (and Duggan) but they all get set in their ways and set plays maybe?
Witherden has been seen to take the game on at times, has a charge, changes the angles, unlike Hurn who is so predictable, swings around and mostly ends up kicking along the right flank - yet he has that killer 60m? kick, why not up the middle with some set plays, some run and gun?
Re selection and underdone players, if they're best 22/ A-grade players, you have to give them match fitness at AFL level asap, not Wafl...especially half way through the season heading towards the business end?
Damned if you do, damned if you don't...it's a gamble depending on the team you're playing.

I don't get the Rotham love. Whenever he is 1 on 1 he seems to lose the contest, he has no speed (or if he does he doesn't use it) and he just likes to kick mark without moving much. He is a decent mark and kick though.

His composure under pressure is great for a young defender. You hardly ever see him panic and make a stupid mistake. Unfortunately, he's just as unhurried when he's taken a mark and should be moving the ball on, but he's a good young player with plenty of improvement still to come imho.

Some of the changes help the ball coming out of defence better. Witherden & Foley.

JJ should never of been dropped to begin with.

But Langdon meh over X Factor Petch stupid considering we are missing Ryan & Rioli..
Praying for a late change Petch back in maybe for Vardy due to Weather.

Would prefer 2 late Changes Vardy & Langdon out for Petch & L Edwards.
That way these 2 would become the most likely to be replaced by Ryan & Rioli.

Our midfield get absolutely smashed and we drop forwards and defenders and bring in no more mids .

Still no brander not even in the emergencies
