I agree.

I don't mind the Ch 9 guys at all, and a lot of the criticism on here is way over the top, but I suppose I can understand how the nicknaming and the jokey-blokey stuff isn't everyone's cup of tea.

I much prefer the current, relaxed, muck-around style to the more formal, stiff style from the days of yore. I reckon it stepped up when Kerry dropped off, coz they all relaxed and started being a bit more real.

While I'm ranting (and still have some coffee in my cup :D)......

I dunno how the notion that the ABC commentary is ten times better gets accepted as a truism. Sure, the ABC might be better, but they've got their duds. I quite like O'Keefe and Agnew, and Henry most of the time, but Alderman bores the **** off me, and only says something interesting about twice a day. MacDonald put me to sleep when he was there (I hope he never comes back). Jim Maxwell might be very slick and knowledgeable, but he's an old fart who moans about everything, especially any innovation to the game. Drew is ok, but he's just a 'white bread' ball-by-ball guy who could be replaced without anyone noticing.

I don't the guys on 3aw/6PR: Chappelli, D. Flemming, Blewett, Moody, Gladstone Small, and the ball-by-ball guys are Tim Lane, Blofeld, Bruce Eva and Karl Langdon.

Zing! :D

The main issue with ABC is they usually use one local in each state.

Alderman is bloody hopeless - has been for a while.

Other than that, I like the ABC - I do agree Maxwell is a little self-righteous - but overall they are a better package.

It helps that they get quality internationals like Agnew, Bhogle et al

If all healy did was talk keeping well then yeah he would fine.

But is his rare 5 minutes of quality keeping analysis worth putting up with hours of his inane trash?

I just want to know why people insist upon being so upset by commentators. Some of the posts on this thread are by people who just enjoy nitpicking. It's the same in the football forums. It would be very difficult to go to air for 7 hours and keep everyone happy.

In cricket there's a lot of time where bowlers are walking back to the mark, etc, and commentators have to fill in the time with something.

Just pick out the quality bits, ignore the rest, and suddenly life may be a little easier to cope with.

I do partially agree with you, but having a quality commentator does make the game that much more enjoyable to watch. I don't own a TV so have been watching the ashes via a live stream of Sky Sports, and the difference between their commentary team and Ch 9's is unbelievable! I could listen to Bumble talk all day yet cringe when Hearly or Slater go of on a stupid tangent.

Some people just find incredibly annoying things easier to cope with or ignore, my halfwit neighbours don't seem to mind that the dog right behind our houses barks all day and all night but it drives me crazy.

Of course the easy (and admittedly snide) reply to what you wrote would be to simply ask why waste your time complaining about complainers?

Nah I love him. He is commentary is great and so is his hosting skills. Genuinely seems excited by sport which is great for a bloke whose main job is broadcasting sport.

Also wouldn't say a first class average of 44 is clueless?? Would say he is pretty well equipped for this gig.

he averaged 42 and when he says the ball is right at the batsman. when it's gone 10 feet over his head. yes he is

would it be said that people who complain about other complainers are ironic like hipsters are?

There is no such thing as time having to be filled in with something, it's a visual medium, we can see what's going on, no need for them to prattle on with a heap of bullshit if nothing is being added to the telecast (which is most of the time).

Well after watching two Big Bash games, all of the sudden I want the 9 commentators back again! Thank goodness 10 didn't get the international rights!

I already miss the days where replays of wickets would be shown in full and uninterrupted, stop ****ing around with that shitty technology you're so proud of yet don't seem to realise it's a massive wank and looks cartoonish on SD anyway.

It adds absolutely no insight or interesting perspectives whatsoever.
