Love him or hate him, he lead our centre clearances last year with 101 ahead of Swan 83 and Pendles 71 and he came second in contested possessions with 183 behind Swan with 193 and ahead of Pendles with 163. I know he has his shortcomings but can we really afford to be rid of a player who would have been second in Hawthorns centre clearances behind Mitchell? He also lead our tackle count by a mile with 106 ahead of Pendles on 77 and Swan on 75.

I'm not suggesting make him captain, but he deserves some respect.

I have to completely agree with this. I recently posted some similarly compelling stats about O'bree and you simply cannot dispute them.

I personally wouldn't want him to lead the club, but the stats don't lie.

Stats can be misleading. whenever obree plays he is in the middle. Swan and pendlebury spent a lot of time playing in other positions. If he was playing for hawthorn he would probably have been leading Box Hill's tackle count. you are kidding yourself if you think he would even be close to getting a game in that midfield.

sadly he is our best clearance player now that burns is gone, and that is why our midfield is nowhere near good enough to what's required to win a flag. hopefully some of the younger guys can overtake him soon.

This is exactly right.

Swan and Pendlebury are both superior (or at worst equal) clearance players, but they don't spend nearly as much time in the centre square.

Co-captains for me. Fraser, Pendlebury and Swan.

Co captains is a more stupid idea than O'Bree being captain. Fraser is even worse than that.

It needs to be someone consistent and tough and works hard.

Swan would be a great choice fits all those areas.

Fraser is as soft as butter. I will always remember him being outmarked by Peter Bell round 1 last year. O'Bree is too old. We need someone who will captain this side for a long time.

Why are so many on Pendlebury for captain? He cruises around the field and never seems to be going hard at it. He is not captaincy material.

Oh Cheesey...well you came and you gave without takin' ...
and we need you today....Oh Cheesey...

Great club man and terribly under-rated.
If he gets the nod I'll support him especially if he grows the beard back.

Yeah I'm not so sure

Stinks of Richie Vandenburg.

We need a player that is amongst the first 5 -10 selected on a Thursday evening. Me thinks Obie is about the 15th player picked each week.

O'Bree is amongst the first 10 selected. If in doubt when has O'Bree NOT finished in the top 10 in the Copeland.

Agree with PS, O'Bree is a consistent and extremely underrated player. True workhorse.
yep very much so.

be one of the first selected now that Burns has gone

A great bloke, I had a long chat to him one day after training this year.
He loves Collingwood and loves to talk to supporters, he really like to hear our ideas.
He would make a very good captain

and that is why we wont win a flag - blokes like O'Bree who butcher the footy every time they get it.
Right butcher it every time does he?

Every single time he gets the ball, not one goes to a collingwood player. Man i must of been ****ed up cause i swear about 75-80% go to a collingwood especially his handpassing in clearence situations

Zipping my mouth here!
ALways sober and in a clear frame of mind at collingwood games tess.

Often whiteline fevers hits me but never in any substance

Maybe I should've said by foot.

If you think he can hit targets - your kidding yourself

O rly? What did you suggest to him?

i couldnt help myself rly:eek:

O'Bree since about 2001 has been one of our top 5 efficiency rated players by both feet and hand. I remember checking the stats after about round 10 this year and he was third behind Pendles and someone else.

In our good years, 2002-2003 he was our most effective passer to our forwards outside of bucks.

Having said that, I'm for Fraser being captain, I was in Adelaide for the final he captained and he played an almost career game.

Give him the responsibility and hope he grows.

12th this year. And even that's a bit inflated, when you take into account his handball:kick ratio.

More hyperbole. Half a dozen were comfortably better.

However, I do think technically he's actually better by foot than by hand. The difference is when he kicks he doesn't look where he's kicking - when he has time, he's usually ok. By hand, he tends to spot targets in traffic, but no-one else on our team misses as many wide-open handpasses.

O rly? What did you suggest to him?

I suggested he should sue a homosexual supporter of Richmond or Carlton (can't remember now, which) who sexually harassed cheesy at a function one night.
The said homosexual supporter just wouldn't back off and become verbally aggressive and then when cheesy tried to get away the homosexual supporter started to scream harassment.

So I said "just sue the arse (pun intended) of the friggin nuff nuff".

He laughed and thought my suggestion had some merit

Now, I bet you feel like a goose for asking?

I also seem to remember him kicking quite a few damned handy goals as well.
Funny how soemtimes you can only see what you want to see.

I see a bloke who gets the ball a lot. Who does occasionally spray it a bit when he is under lots of pressure, but at least gets it going the right way, and who often delivers the bal well by hand or by foot.

Maybe I am hallucinating, but the club must be under the same spell because they keep selecting him and he keeps getting votes.

"Damn these mass hallucinations"

Must be something in the water we get:confused:
