That kick to kick crap the lads pulled out in the last 4-5 minutes yesterday was embarrasing. We have never done it before, and it made me cringe. i hope this wont sneak into our game, because it is bloody awful to watch and very un-woodsman like.

It was the kind of game that Melbourne played, everyone was so tired Melbourne just manned up except for Sylvia and we had no one to kick to but the back line. Until R Shaw and Thomas had a run. ;)

Really Melbourne played ugly, floody football the entire game. If you are going to field a sub par team at least play decent football and you won't get beat on so much. They need to win more members not push them away with crap like that.

Meh. It won us the game in the end so I'll take the 4 points playing ugly for 4 minutes.

It's pretty standard to do that when you're protecting a slender lead and just want to count down the minutes. We only did it for a few minutes, but it was valuable considering Melbourne were doing all the attacking at that stage.

I didn't mind it. We were running out of legs (most players were buggered) and were defending not that great a lead. It was up to Melbourne to stop us.

What I hated was our play during the game. Last few weeks we have played the ball to our forward line quick and through the centre at times leading to some easy goals through marks. Yesterday there was virtually non existent. Melbourne flooded the midfield and we played into their hands by chipping it around the boundary (that led to the players doing doggies and being buggered at the end). A few quick bursts through the centre would have negated that flood.

We shouldnt do it, simply cause we arent good at it. We struggle to hit targets as it is, and everyime we do it we turn the ball over (as we did on this occasion)

its called using your head...

one thing though we should try to keep the ball in the hands of Heater Shaw when we do that, it scares me sometimes

Let me tweak my statement a little. I only say cringe because it makes me very nervous, we are at our worst when we try to play possession football, i just dont think our skills are good enough (they still managed to get it off us twice and should have kicked truly) I'd rather the pill up our end, rather than in the back 50 for 4 or 5 minutes.

do you even watch collingwood matches? we always do it when its a close game or when the oposition is going well (tempo football).

Let's not get caught up in an ephemoral phase of play. We are in the business to win football games. We have the ball, we should not be dictated on how to play by the opposition flooding.

I don't understand all the hoopla surrounding kicking backwards and time wasting and I don't see why we don't have a tolerance for it. Football is now faster than ever and goes for an average of 115 minutes which is more than most sports. When a team slows down play for at the absolute maximum of 10 minutes we go ape shit. Learn to deal with it I say.

Didn't bother me in the slightest, it milked enough clock that they couldn't get back from the four-goal or so margin. Makes perfect sense to me, I'll take a win over attractive football every time.

Most of our best attacks come from a switch of play, it's how Thomas got his goal at the end too. Switch of plays are also about being patient with the ball when the tempo is slow, and then getting it to the Thomas' and the Rhyce Shaws and the Didak to run the ball (generally the attacking right flank I've noticed)
