He 'struggled' against Geelong? Well no point reading the rest of the article then. But considering I did what else do we have, '5 of 12 kicks were effective'; that's great (or not.. depending on if you consider Toovey as the benchmark for DE) but I don't recall any of those resulting in direct turnovers, just stoppages, so it's not the end of the world. Furthermore he got quite a few possessions in congestion, whether or not they were contested I'm not sure, but it meant his kicks were rushed, which is hardly something commonplace for a 'sweeper'.

As for the journalist in question: 'Aish and Treloar' doing the heavy lifting in the midfield? What kind of bullshit is this? I hope all of you guys who are saying 'I agree with him' actually read the article and agree with De Goey, Adams, Greenwood, and Crisp being omitted.
How far into the article did you read?!

I knew we should've sponsored DeGoey. Right, Morganashlee ?
I'd happily sponsor Jesse White just to be part of it but I wouldn't cast my vote for someone just to annoy the Brisbane board of all people lol it seems lame and the possible backfire will be pretty bloody embarrassing :$

Anyone know how quickly badges can be removed? :p

How is it a ridiculous call?

You just listed 5 reasons as to why he wouldn't make the best 22 come round 1.

I dunno why you would state "Connolly is filling up column space" unless you would say the same about those who want to speculate as to who will play round 1.

I stated it was ridiculous, at this stage of the pre-season and Aish's time at the club, to make the call that he won't make our best 22. I didn't state it was ridiculous he wouldn't play round 1. Two very different scenarios. Aish may not play in round 1. The 22 in that team could also be different to the 22 in round 12 or 23.

Chris Connolly is snorting narcotics and anyone in this thread agreeing with him based on 2 3/4 games in the NAB Challenge is snorting the same stuff.

Pharking spare me guys. Christ.

Hell, even based on those 2 games and the intra club he's comfortably in my best 22.

A lot of our draft picks including some high end ones weren't rated by the media experts. Not concerned and will wait until I attend games and see him run out in Collingwood colours myself before making an assessment.

Think Aish may end up getting similar treatment on here to Adams in his first season. Adams received plenty of criticism. People must have been expecting the complete player from day 1.

Personally I think there is some validity in Connolly's comments. Aish is skilled of both foot but it lacks penetration. That should come with time. He needs to build his overall size and power.

We didn't recruit Aish for round 1 or for this year. We recruited him for the next ten years. He is a work in progress. Let's just sit back and watch him develop with a level of patience. Kid has talent, just needs time.

I don't see any problem with what Chris Connolly has said?

Many of the folks on here don't have Aish in their starting 22 either, and those that do would have him on the fringe more out of hope than any reasoned analysis.

We do know that he is being groomed for that wing / sweeper role (correct)

We do know that whoever has that role needs to be a good kick of the footy (correct)

He didn't have an auspicious start in Geelong (subjective opinion, but doubt many would disagree)

He did have a better game in Wagga (subjective opinion, but doubt many would disagree)

He probably did only have 5 effective kicks (Likely to be what the stats sheet says - let's say 'correct')

IMHO the only problem with the article is the sensationalist heading. Although it is in quotes, I strongly doubt Chris Connolly actually said it because it's not consistent with any of the quoted stuff in the body of the article.

I'd blame the Journo for that rubbish rather than Chris Connolly.

Have voiced my concerns about the discrepancy between his ability or what we have seen in comparison to the manner in which he is held on here but even still, it's a bit soon to draw a line through his name before we make it to round 1.

Him being 20 or only having played 32 games is not a justification to afford him leniency. If only we had a player on our list of a similar age taken at a similar point in the draft in which to compare him ...

oh wait :$

Don'
Still sulking? Aish needs a lot of support and TLC after his time in the wilderness. Unlike DeGoey who had the privilege of starting with us.

Yeah Adams was a whipping boy for many in 2014. People are silly.

I don't get it.

How is it that what we've seen thus far doesn't indicate a bright future at Collingwood or justify a Round 1 spot?

Were you all expecting 36 posessions at 100% efficiency and 6 goals per game or something? Even in the limited time we've seen him anyone can see he is composed, smooth, makes good decisions and is a nice kick on both feet.

Keep in mind he's only a 3rd year player coming off an injury riddled 2nd season at a Club he was likely miserable at. Give the kid a break. Can almost guarantee he's in the side come Round 1.

3rd highest posessions in the team for NAB 2 with 19. Would have translated to 25+ in a full length game not being played in 40 degree heat.

Good disposal when he had time and space. Showed willingness and ability to get the ball in traffic rather than hanging on the outside.

Not sure what anyone could have asked more of him given he's still adjusting to playing to a new gameplan with new team mates? If the game had been played in normal conditions and he'd picked up those 5-6 extra touches would anyone be criticising him?
