Chris Dawes Future?

There has been alot of Conversation over the last few weeks about where he stands in the Pies List.

Me and Others see a Real Future for Dawsey in the AFL where others seem him not making it at all.

The Upside I like is that he is finally showing Consistency at VFL Level with 3 Good Games in a Row. Also I think he overhead marking has improved. Still not Good Enough but better than it has been. The Best thing I liked so far is that he can be a Big Creator for Goals for his Teammates by bring the ball down and keeping it alive in his area.

Who else Agrees? or do you see him as List Filler?

I think he deserves an opportunity this year (4-5 games in a row) and if he does not get that opportunity, Collingwood only have themselves to blame when he wants to be traded.

Agree 100% not just 1 game in here and there how about 5+ games in a Row so he can fill settled in the Side

My stance on Dawes has been clear, but I do believe it's time to find out whether he can play or not at the highest level while Jack Anthony struggles, and I'll be honest, Jack didn't do enough to warrant selection from his VFL game.

One way or another I want to find out if this kid should be on our list or not in the coming years.

Jack's struggling and Cloke is battling AIDS so we couldn't do any worse.

AIDS, you know;

Amazing
Inability to
Direct the ball
Straight off the Boot.

:p:D

Apart from his shithouse practice game against the Tigers , I have seen improvement in his game so far this year.
He has to be played forward before L.Brown and any cameos from Fraser.

Hopefully he should get a crack this week. Bring both Jack and Dawesy back in to try and stretch the Hawks. Couldn't work any worse than the last 2 weeks.

Many on here believe I have it in for Dawesy but I would love to see him succeed.

However, I just think he is well behind our other young key forward prospects in Cloke and Jack.

In fact, I think he is also behind Rus and if Rus was actually allowed to play forward at the moment, he would move daylight ahead of Dawesy too.

Dawesy is improving in areas that he is somewhat vulnerable but he hasn't really stamped an authority on games when given the opportunity like Cloke, Jack and Rus have in the seniors.

Problem with Rusling that he is Always Injured and When JA Dominated a AFL Game?

Dawes I'm not sold on. Just haven't seen enough mungrel from him too really use that big body to advantage which is what we need... I don't know. Would love to give him a run this week though. Anyone know what his stats are from the last 3 weeks?

Looking at this week's VFL review, you wouldnt put Jack or Dawes in.... but Jack might get another go this week because we showed so little structure against the Saints.

Dawes is still 21 and Jack is 22. Cloke just turned 23. While I wouldnt be too worried about them, I wouldnt probably start thinking of trying to pick a power forward forward in the next draft...

After the VFL game on the weekend he deserves a spot in the team more so than Jack IMO.

This week he should come in. I don't mind L.Brown but for team balance he would have to make way for him to come in. Unless he was to play back, which is possible with no Franklin this week and Presti taking Roughhead. So there is no real need to bring N.Brown or Reid into the side.

I am a Chris Dawes fan.

However I am starting to see where the criticsm comes from. On saturday took a mark in the first 1/4 then barely saw him until the third. I was only watching on the box so I was not sure where he was on the ground if he did spend time on the bench trying to get our structure right.

I like the way he uses his body except when he is in an overhead marking contest. He is sound below his knees and will handball probably too much and not try and kick for goal enough. His last 40 minutes on staturday is what we want with a couple of strong overhead marks tossed in.

At least he has a presence and he did slot two nice long goals on saturday.

I was disappointed that he was not given the chance last friday night but I think the brains trust wanted to have a fast zoning side at Docklands.

I think it is time to try a structure and whilst big Leroy was good against the Doggies. He is muscle and endeavour but no long term answer. Dawes might be but he is in reasonable form and it is time to try him out.

I'm interested to know what you base this assessment on. You're saying that Dawes is behind Rusling right now, and yet Rusling probably hasn't played the position in around 18 months.

Seems like if there was any time to give Dawes a chance it would be now. Our other key forwards have been nothing short of crap, if Dawes kicks only a single goal he'll be on par, that's how bad it is.

If Mick doesn't start giving him games when our other forwards have been this bad he'll leave the club at the end of the year, I hear Carlton would like a KPF.

But looking at the game, and not the review, you would. ;)

I've seen him play twice this year, and a bit on telly the other day. What I noticed about him was a definate increase in his intensity. He attacks the ball with plenty of vigor, his leads are purposeful and to me he looks like he's playing with a bit more attitude. The two times I've watched him live he kicked 7 & 4. He obviously needs to translate that into AFL footy, but he can't do that without being given a go. Both times I've watched, he's been a million times better than Rusling.

Based on exposure at AFL level.

Sure, Rus hasn't played in 18 months.

However, his senior games have been "explosive". Has had instant impacts on our forward line and fortunes and has at least taken a game by the scruff of the neck and dominated it.

Dawes, for whatever reason, (injury/form/opportunity) has not, yet has probably played almost as many games as Rus at senior level too and without the misfortune of injury.

Going on that, Rus is moreso "the answer" than Dawes.

Oh, and for those that continue this nonsense about "Jack not deserving a spot in the team this week ahead of Dawes", that's just a crock.

No other young key position forward in the league (Buddy and Roughy excluded and probably Cloke too) has done more than Jack. He is best 18 let alone best 22. Match committee learnt this lesson after last week's debacle in front of the sticks.

He surely has to be in consideration for one of Fraser or Browns positions.

FFS Fraser rucks 15% of the match then floats around doing sweet nothings whilst fumbling regulation chest marks and prancing into packs like a flaccid dildo.

Brown on the other hand is being thrown around willy nilly and as such is losing any impact he can create. If he is to remain in the team he needs to be give a role.

These 2 blokes are massive units, and they simply are not being utilized, or in Frasers case imposing himself on the contest as he should be.

Chris Dawes...He has impressed me as much as Wellingham. Imagine what being selected would do for his confidence. Kicked 2 great 50 m + goals on the weekend and never lost his intensity.
I hope Malthouse was watching and thinking "gee look at this guy compared to Leroy, he's a younger, better version".
Lets just hope the club choses the right team.

I will put it out there now, Who thinks Chis Bryan would have given us more at FF than Leroy and Jack this year so far????
Bryan was really good at VFL level last year and actually kicked goals.
I was never a fan and its all hindsight now but id be willing to put money on him being more useful up front than the previous two have given to the team in terms of goals kicked so far?
