Could anyone at the game let me know how Chris went on his first hit out for my "buddy" report?
I was forced to listen to scratchy radio.

Go Pies

Got the first goal of the game (admittedly was very lucky with the bounce). Presented very well all night, and took a couple of really strong grabs. Kicking was a little suspect but that's to be expected with Collingwood forwards :D

Finished up the game with 2.1, 7 disposals, 6 marks.

his kicking has to be nerves. normally a lovely kick in vfl

but he took some great contested marks and a very very positive start

so too mccarthey. didnt get a lot of it but he can get his own ball. doesnt mind the tough stuff that kid

When i heard commentators say: "mccarthey, to DAWWWES" it was so exciting lol

lol yeh i loved that aswell , two first gamers making the play. dawes looked impressive in his first game , cant wait to see him in a couple of seasons time.

with anthony and dawes in the forward line , it really livens up medders and clokey. they both looked fresh as tonight

A goal with his first kick?

yeah goal with first kick, had a chance to get two goals with first two kicks . but it was a hard shot from the pocket.

looked very promising

the kid is going to be a player.. and a good one at that.. needs to work on a few things..
who needs j brown.. the dawesome will be a superstar *i know im getting excited but after the shit that happened this wee why shouldnt i).........

good stuff dawes and jmac.. couldnt have asked for alot more on their first game... and the most pleasing thing was the joy they took from the win..

The beginning of a long career I hope.
It's been a long wait but I knew he wouldn't let em down.

Had a great first half, i'm really looking forward to him getting more games into him. A few of his grabs today were so promising.

Anyone else get a mild erection when McCarthy delivered it to Dawes from the centre?

DAWESOME, what a star this kid is gonna be.

We have been looking for a ling term replacement for Rocca for a few years now, we have him.

That 10 minute patch in the 2nd quarter was, to say it again, DAWESOME.

The mark he took against Hudgton proved he is up to AFL level, and should play all games this year from now on.

I've waited a month to see him play, after watching him for the last 4 weeks in the VFL you could see he has the character, physicality and skill to make it.

Love the kid, and loved that game, PRIDE is the word of the night.

I had a full bar, I'm not going to lie.

You need to get out a lot more then...

Dawes showed a lot of promise. If our forward line included Medhurst Cloke Fraser Davis Dawes and Rusling then I would be very happy with that.

Looked great, presented well, only lacked a little composure (stuffed up a short pass after marking I50) but you'd expect that in his first outing. Very impressed all in all. :thumbsu:

His kicking was not nerves, it is technique. He has a slightly awkward style that may be the thing that holds him back. Otherwise his game looks very solid.

Are we deliberately recruiting players with kicking problems? I'd hate to count how many we have. At least McCarthy is a good kick.

Good debut.

Did some good things. Only query is whether he is good enough on the deck but he definately earned himself another game and IMO showed enough to be left in the side for the rest of the year as a development investment if nothing else. Loved his contested mark in the 2nd Q. Didn't finish it off but his kicking seems generally good. There were a few times he was one out close to goal but ignored. That will change if he plays a bit more and proved his bona-fides at senior level.

There are things known, and there are things unknown, And in between are the Dawes.

I reckon Dawsey is a Chris Tarrant lookalike. Bigger in the body though, but has those same Taz dark looks. Kicks for goal better than the old Taz though (though still not a reat kick).

Great hands on the kid, takes a nice overheard mark under pressure.

He seems to kick very high imo. Think he can flatten it out a tad and get some more distance.

Good impressive first game.

It was funny tonight, I said to some people behind me at the start of the game: Look out for Awesome Dawesome tonight.
It was all a joke to get the into the swing of the night.
What happens at the start of the match.
Dawes really not in the best position, but due to a lucky bounce the ball falls in his lap and bang: runs into and open goal. Fantastic start to a long career we hope. I was at Victoria Park for Sav's debut and we hope he has a similar influence in the next 10 or so years to come.
I have a feeling that he needs a good pre season because he looked a bit tired near the end. Also needs to learn to lead positively. He probably has not played with many of the players that played tonight. Has to learn their games and style of play.
However, he did OK for his first game and will only get better with more confidence. Took a mark in third quarter about 35 meters out and instead of having a shot he tried a pass and we lost the ball. Any player should have a shot from that distance.
In all - he showed he can play and has a good pair of hands. :thumbsu:

Regarding looking tired at the end, I would think the pace of an AFL game would be a little more than he was used to. add to that what must have been built up, in house, as a psuedo prelim would have taken a bit of a toll on his nerves being a first gamer.

Let's hope he settles in, or at least gets the chance to settle in to become a regular player first, then he can concentrate on matching Sav and Pebbles in impact.

sav debut against footscray at the MCG in 1992, Matt Campbell played on him and he kicked 4 that day and yes i was there.
I am pretty sure it was Victoria Park. I remember he kicked 4 goals on debut.
Maybe we should get someone else to correct one of us. :thumbsu:
Can someone else verify where Sav debuted ?
MCG or Victoria Park ???:confused::confused:
