Judd set to stay an Eagle
January 13, 2005

WEST COAST have again managed to keep the Victorian AFL clubs at bay, with the Eagles set to extend reigning Brownlow Medalist Chris Judd's contract for a further two years.

Still just 21 years old, Judd's current deal expires at the end of the upcoming season.

While the Eagles' first ever Brownlow Medalist is yet to put pen to paper, it's understood he has committed himself to the club until the end of 2007.

West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett and football manager Steve Woodhouse met with Judd's manager Paul Connors in Melbourne today and a statement from the club said he was happy with their offer.

West Coast is expected to make an announcement tomorrow following a meeting with Judd in Perth.

Born and bred in Melbourne, Judd has been the subject of constant speculation about a return to Victoria for the former Sandringham product, who rates among the most sought-after players in the game.

But Judd repeatedly stressed his desire last season to stay in Western Australia and be a part of a new era of success at the Eagles.

After a poor start, Judd helped West Coast reach the finals in 2004, handling the captaincy duties in the absence of injured skipper Ben Cousins.

He finished 12th in the AFL in kicks and 13th in disposals, playing all 23 games including the qualifying final loss to Sydney.

There's little doubt it will cost the Eagles a substantial amount to retain the flashy midfielder's services.

The two-year contract extension Judd signed in 2003 was worth up to $700,000 and his exploits since then clearly would have increased his market value.

Do we even have room to fit Judd in the midfield?

Surely Wooden would hold is his spot, with Adkins and Green in there too, where would we play him?

great news that one. It will definetaly allow him to concentrate on his footy next year because i'm sure all the rumours that get bandied around couldn't have helped him (even if he did win the Chas)

Now that Collingwood, Essendon and the like can't get him we're gonna hear about how he's a overated hack.

Cant wait to hear what they have to say...

1)"Not worth the money"
2)"He's from west coast and therefore on drugs"
3)"The brownlow was rigged and he really sucks"
4)"We dont want him"
5)"We dont need 'that sort of player' "
6)"We are happy with Hodge / Ball thanks"

Just a few predictions, im sure there are more

i just got back today after being away for the past couple of weeks. I literally hadn't seen a newspaper or the news in about 8 days and had no idea Juddy had re-signed.

Wow. Great news. We get to watch Juddy in the blue and gold for at least another 3 years. :)

I'm glad he got it out of the way before the season started. The constant talk would have been a lot for him and the rest of the club to deal with.

Well actually Judd hinted subtley, well subtley for Victorian moron's, that he wants to play his whole career at West Coast.
