Chris judd round 7 vs St Kilda - how the **** did he get 3 votes?

Spat my drink everywhere when he got the 3 vs St.Kilda.

There's no way in hell he was in the Top 3 players on the ground.

Gartlett was better, Hayes was better, and neither of them polled.
Russell was easily the best player on the field.

The umpires have no idea..

That suggest Brett Ratten knows as much as the umpires

Coach A
Swan 5
Judd 4
Ball 3
Pendles 2
Murphy 1

Coach B
Ball 5
Judd 4
Pendles 3
Swan 2
Russell 1

Judd and Ball could swap places and Ratten may have given Judd 5 whilst Malthouse only gave him 3

what's your point? for all you know Micky gave him 5.

"The Carlton skipper started the count a $21 long shot with TAB Sportsbet, but enhanced his reputation as an umpires' pet by polling an extraordinary 30 votes."

Umpires' pet...even the Herald Sun says so

The medal must be taken away from umpires. The spend all day stuffing up the rules of the game and then at the end of the season stuff up the Brownlow Medal. We need to start exercising some control over these egomaniacs.

And for anyone to laugh at suggestions Judd is an umpires pet, they need to be a Carlton supporter or blind.

Whether or not Judd deserved votes in certain games is a very subjective matter. Not sure about the saints match as I dont remember it specifically, one thing is for sure though, stats and by extension who got more than Judd is irrelevant. Its the impact on the game that counts. Some of you people get way to sucked in to dream team and super coach stats which mean jack shit.
The game against Collingwood is similar, in that Judds impact was as equal to or better than any other person on the ground. His third quarter was as good a quarter as you will see. The fact Carlton got flogged, is more of an indictment on the rest of the Carlton side, as well as a plus for Collingwoods strentgth and evenness across the board than anything.

Here’s Judd’s stats:

1st Quarter: (lead by 31 points)

18:40 – receives handball off Murphy on half-back flank. Gets partially tackled and hands it back to Murphy. Nothing special.

15:41 – Judd extracts the hard ball off Montagna on the wing and gives a short handpass to Garlett who subsequently turns it over. Strong play.

14:38 – Judd bursts onto the loose ball with an exceptionally clean pick-up. His kick, however, is well read and cut off by Kozi. Thornton did make the kick look a lot worse than it was (i.e. he remained flat footed).

13:02 – receives a slick handball from Gibbs in the back pocket and bursts away from the stoppage. Long bomb over the wing. Lot of height but good placement. Unfortunately Garlett overruns the ball. Good teamwork to keep Goddard away from Judd at stoppage.

9:04 – receives handball off Simpson in the centre. Puts on the afterburners and breaks through Gram. Kicks a long accurate ball from inside the square on the flank. Waite decides to mark in the square rather than shepherd it through, safe option. Goal assist and fantastic play by Judd.

8:25 – Judd gets the first meaningful disposal after the ball-up. Catches Clint Jones ball watching. Bombs it long and lands fortuitously with Garlett who goals. Contested disposal, clearance, inside 50, goal assist and hardball get for Judd.

7:28 – Ball is flicked out to Judd on the back 50. Murphy misreads it and runs into Judd. Judd quickly handballs back out of trouble. Contested disposal (and not because Murphy hit him).

6:42 – Judd manages to squeeze the ball out of a contested situation. Hayes was hanging all over him so he did well. No disposal, though.

5:11 – Bad kick by Joseph and small fumble by Judd. Picks it up on second attempt. Is tackled by Dempster but manages to shrug him off and give the handball to a breaking Joseph.

2nd Quarter: (lead by 32 points)

19:41 – Reads the tap in the forward line. Quick hands while being tackled find Simpson.

18:05 – brilliant smother on Dal Santo in a congested situation on the half-forward flank. Grabs the crumbs and is tackled by Montagna but just tosses him aside. Handballs inside 50 but turns it over.

16:10 – receives the kick-in in the back pocket. Plays on and kicks well to Thornton.

16:00 – follows up on his previous play. Bursts through a small gap between both Hayes and Goddard, without either laying a hand on him. Kicks towards Waite on the forward flank but the boundary line is too close.

10:48 – Judd extracts the ball from a fifty-fifty with Jack Stevens twenty metres out from St Kilda’s goals. Turns around and kicks short to Lucas. Goal to Garlett results down field.

8:10 – gets first effective centre clearance. High ball to half-forward flank. Blake outmarks Murphy. Still a good clearance.

6:29 – clears from ball-up with quick hands to Chris Johnson while being tackled. Play results in a Murphy goal.

3rd Quarter: (lead by 42 points)

19:56 – gets the first clearance of the half and flicks a banana to half forward.

18:16 – gets the ball in the back pocket. Plays on straight away and wrong foots Dal Santo. Good kick to the wing to Jacobs.

15:44 – clean pick up in the back pocket. Feeble tackling attempt by Milne is brushed aside. Kicks dangerously across goal. Betts gets in position but drops a straight-forward mark.

14:57 – terrible kick in by Russell. Judd dives wide to get a touch on the ball to avoid out-on-the-full.

00:30 – ball falls to the back of a contest to Judd. Has Baker hanging off him and Gram comes to help. Judd manages to get a handball to the boundary line.

4th Quarter: (61 point win)

19:50 – Houlihan sells Judd into trouble but Judd manages to find Gibbs with a quick handball despite the two Saints players tackling him.

19:44 – Gilbert misjudges a low Scotland kick on the Blues forward flank. Judd brilliantly picks it off his outstretched arms and sends a kick around his body to O’hAilpin who should have marked twenty metres from goal.

18:34 – ball slides off the hands of the two ruckmen. Judd puts on the afterburners and crumbs the tap brilliantly. From 35 metres he slams through the goal. Even before Judd kicks the goal you can see Goddard’s disappointment with his inability to stop Judd kicking that goal.

11:07 – Judd marks in the back 50. Kicks long to the wing and to a contest.

10:33 – Judd marks in the back pocket. Kicks a short kick to Jamison.

4:06 – Grabbed the ball at a throw-in. Pushed Dal Santo off but Gilbert got him. Didn’t really have any opportunity to get rid of the ball but I’ve seen a lot less get paid holding the ball.

Points worth noting:

1. Betts kicked four in the last quarter. Until then he went unsighted. Plus the game was already won.

2. Both Waite and Garlett had good starts. However, Waite really did all his good work in the first quarter and Garlett was rarely sighted after that as well.

3. Jordan Russell and Kane Lucas were both really solid. Though neither as good as Judd.

4. Hayes was huge. Seemed to be at the bottom of all centre bounces. Ended up with 29 touches, eleven contested. He had eight clearances. However, he did have two or three really silly brain fades that cost both a fifty and a downfield free.

5. Chris Judd ended up with 15 kicks and 9 handballs. Ten of these were contested. He had six clearances and four inside fifties. For most of the night he was playing on Brendan Goddard. Goddard had 26 touches, eleven contested disposals, two clearances and two inside fifties. Despite this, Judd was the superior player on the night by a substantial amount (in terms of his impact - Goddard seemed to be a bit off. Perhaps too Judd conscious?).

Having watched the game through again, my votes would be:
3. L Hayes (StK)
2. C Judd (Carl)
1. J Russell (Carl)

I don't think it is that far off the mark to give Judd the three (certainly couldn't give Betts the three unless you were only looking at the stats sheet).

Ok general concensus is that Judd shouldnt have got any votes against St Kilda and shouldnt have got all 3 against Collingwood.
Let say no votes against St Kilda and 2 votes against Collingwood.

Final result, wow Judd still wins!

Shut up and stop your whinging!

Should the umpires vote with their two-page Hun spread in front of them? Betts kicked those goals against StKilda in junk time (although still thought there were a handful better players than Judd).
As to the three votes against Collingwood Judd kept breaking open the packs and I would have given the umpires zero credibility had they ignored his game (so it is all about opinion).

Judd kept burning the footy straight to our HBF line which then came back over his head and resulted in goals for us...

Worst high possession game I've watched from a player, had no vision at all.

I would of forgiven 1 vote just for his work rate but not BOG, Swan, Pendles, Ball and Dids were more influential.

Might want to check that... they have access to them if they want... shouldn't be based on stats anyway, but I'm sure at times it probably helps back up the way you're thinking

actually one of the umpires was stated on On the Couch i think that they didn't have access to the stats after the game

I was at the game and definitely got the feeling that Judd killed us at every stoppage, changed the game and deserved the 3 votes.

Yet it was mentioned a few years back they would be giving the umpires stats when they hadnt done so previously, so either they changed their minds yet again or...

Against the Pies the first time, we win by 9 goals. Pretty much control the game for the first half, up by 7 goals, let them back in during the third, put the foot back down, game over.

Swan and Johnson rotate off Judd and are involved in at least 10 scoring assists. In addition Judd turns the ball over resulting in Pies goals at least 5 times.

3 Votes Chris Judd.

Umpire credibility = zero.

Not even bothering with the Brownlow next year, its a farce.

The coaches gave Judd equal best on the ground.

So who's got the credibility here? Malthouse and Ratten + the umpires or sour Collingwood supporters?

Lock in A thanks Eddie.
