Mega Thread Nick Daicos - Can he be the GTWEB? Part 2

Dusty played his early seasons alongside Jack Reiwoldt who won 2 Coleman's in Dusty's first 4 seasons and Cotchin also was a Brownlow medalist...he was a bit part player in an avg team that won 38 games.
Rubbish

Pontificating with your drivel again.
Why do you keep calling that Poster Adam?

Richmond did win 38 games in Dusty's first four seasons.

Jack did win two Coleman's.

Cotch did win the 2012 Brownlow and Richmond BnF (his second consecutive BnF), Dusty was equal 10th.

Dusty played a final in his 4th season, and he was average at best in a game that Richmond let a six goal lead in the third quarter slip to a team that finished the season in 9th.

No drivel, all facts.

Negative.

Many neutrals amongst them.

Feel free to check it out for yourself.
At the risk of upsetting you I think that might have been circa 2022/23. The anticipated Daicos dynasty clean-sweep hasn’t exactly eventuated. Let’s wait and see if he can win the best and fairest next year instead of projecting him as a player who might leave Matthews and Ablett in the rear view mirror. It’s a bit embarrassing.

Not the question.

No one is picking him in front of that group as player v player he’s not better.
After 4 seasons, Daicos has out performed all except Lethal, GAZ, Plugger and Buddy (kicked 100+ goals in his 4th season).

Just take a look at guys like Dusty and GAJ first four seasons, they were miles off being star midfielders in the game at that stage of their careers.

The question has to be asked pick in a fantasy draft

Mathews
Carey
Ablett Snr
Plugger
Ablett Jnr
Dangerfield
Robert Harvey
Buddy Franklin
Nick Daicos
Jason Dunstall
Michael Voss
Dustin Martin
Nick Riewoldt

No one is taking Daicos. That’s just a few
If there was a draft for players after their 4th season.

Out of those guys, Lockett, Carey, Matthews and Nick would be the discussion for pick 1. No one else in the conversation. And Nick has probably been better overall in the first 4 than any of them.

Also highly likely he wins the rising star in a season where the team losses the first nine games.
He was reported but only suspended due to carry over points from previous reports.
A bit player.

Seems unlikely with Nick though. He's going to add a fair bit of strength over the coming years and it's obvious how that will assist him with his role.
He has kind of plateaued tho. Hasn't really improved alot since his second season. Maybe even gone backwards.

It happens to alot of good young players. Rowell is an obvious example. He started his AFL career like a hype god and it took him till last year to win a Brownlow.

I actually think it happens a lot with players who are connected with clubs. Same thing happens with academy players. If they have a connection with a club and a club has first dibs on them that club gives this player special training, meaning in their first season or two they look a lot better than a lot of draftees who have not had the special training, but they are also closer to their ceiling than most first year draftees as well.

Disagree totally. I don't think you're watching. Nick was an outstanding receiver at the end of 2023. I thought what he was then was going to be his career and I didn't see much scope for development. But how quickly his inside game has developed has been amazing. And it will continue to develop as he gets stronger.

I think there’s more to it than that.
The conversations around the kitchen table with the Daicos family or the Darcy family.
It is a career choice at 15.
There’s threads about the dip in indigenous player numbers.
There’s no doubt the “Preform now” mindset of young players and clubs is a trend and has been building for a few years.
My view is Nick Daicos isn’t ready for what he’s doing output wise.
I don’t hope for any player to get injured but I don’t think I can’t remeber seeing another 22 yr old run as fast for as long.
I also think Collingwood built their entire fwd transition game around him.
I think that’s a bit fkd up

Highly likely 🤣🤣
Drivel

Hannerz a unanimous winner, and was also nominated for AFLCA young player of the year (Dusty wasn't).
A bit player.

What do you call a player who comes 10th in your BnF? Meanwhile the actual stars like Cotchin, Jack are winning Brownlows and Colemans.
Why do you keep calling another poster Adam.
Why do you do that?
He is a sad Saints fan that creates different accounts

I think he moved from the back flank because teams started scoring through him

Do you? Strange take.
Not that he was beaten easily or can’t defend but hard to defend if you’re not there.

You haven’t had a rebounding defender since.

He still plays the same way, was a free wheeling back flanker now he’s a free wheeling mid.

Yeah just need to look at his seasons

2022, HBFer for debut season

2023, forced his way into midfield rotation and became an elite ball winner, but was still an outside player

2024, was required to be an inside mid and thrived, 4th in the league for clearances and #1 for winning ball in attacking midfield zone

2025, actual numbers wise he did plateau (hard to really improve much when you have been top5 for disposals, clearances, CPs and winning the ball in attacking middle zone the previous year), his clearance numbers down slightly but increase in inside 50s, and score involvements - we did start to use him in F50 at times too.

What do you think his brother's role was this year?

He’s a pretty impressive story that player I think.
Yeah fair enuf his numbers are a bit light on compared to previous years but he turned up in important moments.
But compared to his brother he doesn’t seem to have the same license.
And I think it’s important. I can’t think of another player that has had the same license as Nick.

Not really
Played the same role like he did at Oakleigh Chargers.
The only difference is he didn’t have overload injuries in juniors.
