And who to use the list spot on? Chris Mayne, Ty Vickery, a delisted F/A, or a pick in the 60's?

Yeah, a pick in the 60's looks like it might have been the better option - but the Club probably thought it was worth a punt given 2017 objectives.

Personally I would have gone for Josh Green over Mayne.

Front loading heavy contracts like those of Pendlebury, Treloar and to a lesser extent, Reid. There's plenty of ways to meet the TPP criteria without wasting big chunks of cash on mediocre players like Mayne.

If only we had this sort of revolutionary thinking 12 months ago. Oh wait ;)

Whether it was the correct call trading Brown is another debate also. We gave up a lot in defensive structure by trading him.
Didn't he want to go after not happy with time of contract offered?
Went as free agent?

Besides after everything I'd rather, today, have Dunn.

Brown was a restricted free agent. Also pretty sure that he was in our leadership group the year before.

Would have thought (only guessing) that if he left to go to another club under those circumstances then it was because of a mutual agreement between us and him.

The issue isnt Mayne per se. If he was on Maccaffer money and tenure nobody would be too fussed....Maccaffer being the player he basically replaced on the list

The issue is Mayne, big money and long tenure. Way too much for as you call it "2017 objectives".

Vickery is probabaly the only choice that would have been a worse mistake. ""All of the above " would have been a better choice.

Was he helped with a slight push or a crumbling edge? Certainly didn't see a huge hand out to pull him back in.
As a good a shove as was possible, I'd suggest.

As old mate David was holding Travis, there was a big almighty shove, and not just Nathan, Ed, Pert, Gubby, Boot studder.

Funny thing, the shove seemed more at old mate than Travis. Who would have thunk it?

Compared to Mayne who was never on top of the cliff in the first place...
I think there's a few who'd happily take him there and push him off though...

Metaphorically speaking of course.

We had a choice of ...

(1) Chris Mayne

(2) A draft pick in the 60's

(3) Luring alternate free agents (Ty Vickery anyone?)
(4)A draft pick in the 60's AND front loading contract extensions to open up cap space for recruiting (Martin, Kelley... a key forward.. a key back...)

I any case Mayne did not just cost us 2017 cap space and a pick in the 60s he cost us cap space and a list spot for 4 years.

Not to toot my own horn or anything but I was the first person to suggest recruiting Daniel Wells in the Collingwood Trade Talk 2016 thread and this would go down as one of my greatest accomplishments in life :coffee:
We would of received better value from boomer Harvey personally

Both players mentioned in the thread title were recruited to fill perceived holes in the on field game plan.
I can certainly see why Wells was recruited. The man is silk, when he can get on the park.
And as we all know, that's the rub......on the park.
Mayne.....I'm still not sure why. We have more than enough of his type. Mid sized potential game turners.
Bux has recruited, and relisted, plenty of those.
Both appointments were made on the back of Buckleys statement that CFC needed to make finals for him to keep his job.
Gap fillers. Expensive gap fillers.
2017,shows the appointments as a failure.
And as such, the coach should fall on his sword.
What worries me more is wells will return to the club after the players break a mess like he did this season and could not get on the park because this set him back with his injuries.

Toot toot

Fair call

Kudos are yours

Why?
He's been a professional year after year, doubt he'll visit overseas and be as less prepared than this season.

Even his tardiness is better than most on our list at full preparation

He came back over weight and out of shape from all reports. Let's hope he does not do that again.

What incentive is there for him to come back 100%? We pay him for 4 years regardless, we aren't making finals for a while and he'll get a game as soon as he's right anyway. All we have is a hope and expectation that he does the right thing by the club, but the fact is the recruitment department has left the club in a vulnerable position yet again.
