I was appalled that a coach left a player on the field for over 2 quarters with a broken arm.
Dangerfield heard it snap so Scott would have known at half time that it was broken.
There was a fit sub player , a foward like Cameron, Jack Martin, that could have come on.
Cameron spent 17 minutes on the bench with the injury in the 3rd quarter.
Scott subs Stanley instead of Cameron in the 4th quarter.
The issues here are duty of care, what's best for the team and a coach unable to make the correct decision for whatever reason.
The AFL should consider issuing a fine to Geelong because I can guarantee you this won't happen again in the future.

for some reason you made 2 threads for this.
If Cameron tells scott he can play, and the medicos don't' say otherwise then what do you expect Scott to do?
btw you can hear snaps when ligaments pop and// or tear, the number of people I've seen who swear they hear a crack and the XR shows no break...

You could tell it was broken by the pain he was experiencing. It was plain to see.
If he got crunched in a tackle he could of done some permanant damage.

It’s a broken arm, not internal injuries. Not like his life was in danger.

Having said that, I don’t know what the hell was going on with Geelong - they seemed all at sea and unable to make decisions. They were a mess.

Everybody watching the game was saying his arm is broken… the impact and the way he was carrying it. They just sit on it with him off the ground for ages. Just be decisive, make the bloody sub and get on with it. He wasn’t impacting the game anyway.

this duty of care you are claiming is way overblown and excessive
he did get crunched in a tackle (one he intiated and ended up landing on his arm)

that said I do agree very surprising that he subbed Stanley not Cameron

If the doctor has deemed it safe for Cameron to return to the field, then I don’t think you can blame Scott for leaving him out there. In terms of the duty of care that is with the medical team, not the coach. As long as Scott has created an environment where he trusts his doctors/physios as professionals and is not pressuring them to make certain decisions, then Scott has done nothing wrong.

It was however a questionable decision tactically. They had a forward to replace him with in Martin, and as good as Cameron is, do we really think he’d be better with one arm than someone as skilful as Jack Martin?

Ii'd like to see the explanation from the medical team.

Their entire reaction to the situation was just weird. They handled it all very poorly and totally fluffed it. Very indecisive. The fact Scott complained about the sub rule post game showed it was all pretty chaotic and had affected them.

The occasion and the situation got to them.

Yeah the sub rule complaint was bizarre. He injured it late in the second quarter so they had the whole half time break to assess him and make a decision. They just made the wrong one.

They were rabble in that second half once the Lions warmed up and got moving.

Cats players just standing around hands on hips with no clue where to position themselves.

Was very weird.

Lions could have kicked another ten goals if it went longer

Big If.

Love to know what the medical team really said

Be interesting to know what Cameron was saying. We’re all brought up on the stories of GF heroics with injuries. Was he desperate to get back out there and be a hero, and so insisting he wasn’t subbed off?
He wanted to stay on but it cost his team. He should have taken himself off if no one else was going to.

This. Chris Scott just suffered decision-making paralysis under pressure.

Happens to the best of us, and likelihood definitely increases with age, in my experience!

If they said 'it's broken, but not badly broken, we can juice him up with painkillers', that's not good enough in my book because another big hit there could do serious damage.

Just waiting for you to bump the thread you created for Nat Fyfe playing with a broken fibula for almost an entire match or wondering why it happened in the first place

Ridiculous take.

Cameron is a grown man and the issue wasn't concussion and unable to make a call himself.

So you're ok with players playing with a broken arm?

You seem ok with creating unnecessary threads telling consenting adults what they can and can’t do based on an irrational hatred for a football team even after they’ve just had their arse fed to them in a grand final so why can’t he be ok with his own stance
