BOG yesterday in the game against Adelaide, and fairly comfortably.

Put simply, Yaz was sublime. Just about everything he did was pure silk, and he had it 30+ times.

The move into the back half has done him wonders. Just looks so comfortable there. It's also helped the team immensely, his skills are brilliant and he very rarely wastes a disposal.

Seems to have a heap of time when the ball is in his hands.

Played off half back, but often found himself up at half forward after linking with his team mates countless times out of the back half.

Cordy has done wonders with Yaz over the past 2 seasons. His body shape has changed a considerable amount, and he is immeasurably fitter than what he was back then.

I only counted 2 wasted disposals yesterday, and that's because he was absolutely stuffed after running as much as he did to get the ball back.

I was excited to see him come round 1 but now I can't ****ing wait.

Could easily be our most improved player in 2011.

He's an absolute gem.

I loved the reaction from Blues fans when he got the ball or when he was open and was about to receive the ball.

Every time it was 'give it to Yazz' and 'go Yazz, run!'. Loved the excitement!

Where are the haters?

Re: Chris Yarran

Get f****d damian - i will not sit by while these guys like ratten and hughes make stupid decisions, both with the match selections and at the draft table.

Yarran is crud. Imagine rich out there today versus richmond, or ziebell. Yarran cant even get in the best in the 2's. Does not give a s*** about football.

As for you, you are soft and have no commitment to our club by allowing this to happen without a voice.

I do not accept mediocrity. Players like hartlett, fisher, bently, yarran, bentick, even robbo.

And there are plenty more..................

Hi :)..
..

Any flog who thinks Rich is better than Yarran is...well... a flog.

Can Rich play forward, mid and back? I dont think so. Not with ease anyway.

I'm so glad I picked Yarran as my buddy. Excellent timing.

Yarran is going to have a breakout year, I can just feel it. And I'm in the same boat as others who just can't wait to see it happen :thumbsu:

I'm planning on going to the praccy match vs. Geelong next week so hopefully I'll be able to give a fairly detailed report on how he goes (if he's playing).

"Go after the ball! I dare ya'!"

I went to the game yesterday and this is my take on how he went.

By looking at reports from last weeks game, he didn't go quite as well but still did some brilliant things.

His ability to scoop up the ball and just burst through a pack without being touched is magnificent and to top that off, he will most likely hit a target. I say 'most likely' because there were a few times yesterday where his disposal let him down.

It seemed that the rest of the team were instructed to give him the ball after a mark if he was running past as this happened a fair bit.

Apparently he kicked a brilliant goal which I did not see because someone was standing right in front of me

He also took a few kick outs and kept running to provide a link up. Perhaps he will be the designated kicker out of the square?

The further the game progressed, the quieter Yarran got plus his opponent kicked a few goals. Those were the only negatives.

Moving Yarran into the backline has been a great move and it seems he is relishing the opportunity. Other teams seemed to have picked up on the idea (*cough* Leon Davis *cough*) because it is such a great one. Our coaching staff deserve a pat on the back. :thumbsu:

On the march

“His offensive run, decision-making and ball-use are first-class,” says new Carlton defensive coach Gavin Brown, “but the thing we've been really pleased in is his defensive actions. He's been really, really tight.

“He's pretty strong, got a good physique, and holds his own physically in the one-on-one stuff and with his defensive bodywork. Early in the piece, it was as much to give him some more game education, but he's just gone that well.

“His mindset seems pretty determined to make it work, too. He's really doing his homework, coming up and asking to look at upcoming opponents and what they might do, really thinking about his game.”

On the march

Poor guy didn't seem comfortable down back at all like he did in the preseason, what are your guys thoughts? Hopefully he gets better luck and a bit of confidence from the suns this week, looking forward to it myself

It was his first game as a defender in the AFL and he was tagged heavily out of the game. White had something like 7 disposals so clearly didn't worry about getting the footy. Only having 4 disposals himself, Yarran would be dissapointed but at times I saw him running and getting into positions to get the ball but it didn't come his way.

He'll be fine, it's a compliment really that he was tagged after a preseason of dominance so hopefully he shows everyone why he needs to be tagged. Deadly with the ball in his hands.

Yeah i knew he was tagged but didn't know it was that heavy, I managed to be in Canberra when your boys toyed with gws and yarran looked bigger, stronger and very dangerous running out of the backline. I've been more of a garlett fan myself but yarran seems to have developed much better over the preseason, hopefully it pays off for him,

Yeah it was surprisingly heavy considering it was only on the back of a few preseason games, mind you he did dominate. White who usually lines up in defense was sent specifically to shut down Yarran as I said.

He's definitely fitter and stronger than last year and just seems more hungry to succeed. Round 1 was a hurdle and he didn't handle it very well so hopefully it will be a different story this week when he doesn't get such a tight tag do GC even have anyone to do this role?

Logically he was going to attract a defensive forward with his pre-season form and the media hype surrounding that.

Also have to bare in mind that White wouldn't be considered one of the leagues better DF's so there is some concern but it's early days and he'll be given a few games to work through the attention.

He's never going to be a hard as nails contested play defender and he's not supposed to be anyway but he will have to run harder for longer and up the ante in the creative stakes to play the way Ratts wants him to.

And if it doesn't work it's not the end of the world for him or the team.

I think you'll find it is actually 'early doors'. :p

very good, but he has got to realise that no-one (barring Dangerfield) can catch him. Two many times he takes two bounces and then handballs it to a person standing still. Memo: the goals don't move, go for it. Take the shackles off. Duck, weave, dodge, goal.
