Well there seems to be agreement - that he has been playing less than 100% fit. On last year's form and earlier part of this year - he is a weapon for CFC in attack - both in terms of his running ability AND ( I think) his elite kicking to advantage ability. Yarran in the past has also proved himself as a handy goal kick on the run - importantly from > 45 meters out last year - I noted he missed an important and very get-able set shot, against Geelong - but so did a few others.

This contribution have been missed since he injured his toe/foot - a significant out for CFC. Hopefully he regains 100% fitness. Still I am sure that everyone would like to see him improve his defensive capability. No player has excited me as much as Yarran - a talent which can develop into AA standard for years to come.

Yazza is young but using a Gibbsy comparison - he has only 2 years to add a hard edge to his game or expect bagging

I think Yarran has been flying under the radar in terms of justifiable criticism this year.

Sure he is 'only' 21 and has time to develop. However it seems like he has gone backwards in attack from HB and made no progress in getting his defensive act up to AFL standards.

I have seen him actually miss tackles when the opposition players body is over the boundary. Yarran should have been the one on Milne for example NOT Joseph - unfortunately it is pretty obvious his defensive capabilities or lack thereof preclude such critical match-ups.

I have high hopes for Chris and perhaps his injury has prevented him from stepping up this year. Gartlett/Yarran are key disapointments so far for me - especially Yarran.
might have a little to do with the task that the MC gives Yarran ie rebound defensive player that breaks the lines and can deliver the ball rapidly and directly.

While Guns explained the role Yarran plays, one of the other reasons he didn't play on Milne was that Yarran wasn't available for selection against St Kilda due to injury. Fairly important that the MC select match ups based on players in the 22.

Interesting to read the vfl coach say Yarran wasn't happy about playing in the twos, inferred he didn't try.

I get the feeling there wasn't a single player who was happy to be playing except the skipper who always puts in 110%. Was a very depressing thing to behold - have no idea why they bothered turning up apart from the pay check - they were all clearly thinking about fishing or golf.

Its amaazing its not like he had been dropped they were doing it for his own good. If what is reported is accurate I would not pick him this week.

Players sulking in the twos is not to be tolerated.

If true I agree, and if true then maybe there is more going on behind the scenes then we all know, and if that is true we are stuffed!

Lot of if's though...

This is a quality post.....thick with sarcasm but sufficient wit to carry it off!!

Where did Hyde say that? The way I read it Hyde was saying Yarran was rightfully disappointed with his poor game.

Right on that point Sin...

But Yarran really didn't give a flying **** about playing on Saturday and only did so because he was told to...!

His touch is fine but he just needed the run in his legs... Hopefully he got that...!

Maybe it was Hyde who said to Yarran that he didn't want to be there and did try. It would explain today's resignation.

To make matters worse, Yarran had no influence on the match yesterday and Hyde was clearly frustrated at his lack of effort.

‘‘Very ordinary. For an elite player, we needed more everything from him, more run, more possessions,’’ Hyde said. ‘‘It’s just the truth of it. He said he wasn’t happy, you can’t hide it. He came back to be able to get some touch and some run and he wasn’t able to provide that.’’

If Yarran is selected this week Hyde will be 100% sure he made the right decision to resign

You sound rather vindictive, Barass. Yarran may or may not play but I wouldn't say it's 100% given Dale, Curnow, Lucas, Bower, McInness were all praised for working hard.
????????????????? Have you read what I posted? Yarran was chosen to play last saturday. He has said he was not happy about it. He contributed zilch. If he is selected to play this week what does that say about Carlton and what message does that send to Northern Blues hopefulls. Please reply

It sounded like you were saying that Hyde had put his career on the line by suggesting Yarran was lazy. And that Yaz being an 'untouchable', shaking off an injury, was beyond criticism and hence someone had a word in Hyde's ear to resign.

But I guess by this week's selection we'll find out if Yarran was played in the 2's just to get an extra match under his belt or whether he was demoted due to other circumstances.

Apologies if I misread. ;)

Wow - how did you read that
What I was trying to say - was that I think Hyde would be disappointed to think NB form means nothing and shit attitude is acceptable.
Your distinguishing between why he was there - extra match or dropped. What difference should this make to how you perform. No wonder the NBs have not been able to cover all their injuries IF list players are allowed to 'select a gear' according to why they are there. I believe this is the root of the NBs problem

Edit Thinking about your post and Hydes Wed night resignation - I wonder whether Yarran has been selected and that was the straw that broke the camel's back

Have to say this is very ordinary from Yarran and am really struggling to understand the behaviour TBH.

Perhaps he was looking for a lazy day in front of the telly and forgot it's actually his job.

Not surprised by any of this.

Can't remember who the Hawthorn player was the other night but he just burnt Yarran off who would not and did not chase hard. Every chance he gets with the ball in his hand he outruns players, yet he didn't have the will to chase when the shoe was on the other foot.

Ordinary. Should be made to go back to the 2s again if his attitude doesn't improve very, very quickly.
