Moved into a new place and the toilet has shocking stains on it... not shit, just those ones from water buildup etc - bottom of the bowl and where the water runs down.

No amount of scrubbing or regular cleaning fixes it. I've read many things - CLR, bleach, vinegar, Coke (Coca Cola I mean).

Anyone know what will work?

Did you try the things your read about? I have used both coke (overnight) and vinegar with hot water and they work for my toilet. To be fair it wasn't that bad to begin with.

I have heard of this before. Its bloody scary to think coke can do this and worse that I still drink it !

Although I am a Zero junkie, cannot afford the extra calories lol.

You definitely shouldn't drink it after it's been in your toilet overnight.

There are many uses for hydrochloric acid. High concentrations of this substance can be fatal if ingested. This chemical should be handled with extreme care and kept away from children. Hydrochloric acid is useful for many cleaning situations and can be used to dissolve many things. Dilution seems to be the safest way to make this substance applicable to many application, such as work in the lab or household chores. Always handle with extreme care!

This could work. It may require a few applications to be effective. Extreme care must be employed when using it. It also involves sticking your hand into the toilet and the use of an abrasive pad to scour the effected area. If you intend doing this, rubber gloves must be worn, and these must be handled very carefully afterwards, so none of the solution gets on the skin. Read up on its use on Google before trying it. It must be diluted with water. Not sure of the proportions, but it shouldn't be too hard to find out. There is no guarantee it will work.

If you think this to be too radical and dangerous an approach, as suggested, buy a new throne.
