Surely you're on the side of human rights advocates and the UN? No bail, it's a joke.

Link to where I commented on that.

Ive said my view, irrespective of what the UN or our govts think.

Now am I crying if a violent protestor is denied bail? No, because our bail stance in Australia is loose as hell, and its usually only the **** heads who are denied bail.

Ffs joffa got bail

What's your position on this exactly?

What's your position on this exactly?
  • non violent protest with no permit: a fine
  • protest with property damage: cost of repair or community service or jail (dep on situ)
  • protest with violence: jail

Maybe governments shouldn't create fascist laws, requested by lobby groups ,who want to profit from destroying the planet.
Not democratic.
Two weeks max is sufficient. Rapists and wife bashers get less than that.
I'm glad the flare didn't cause a gigantic explosion.
Maybe you'd be happy jailing soccer guys with flares for 8 months.
Maybe just jail Greens voters for 2 months for not supporting business enough.
You’re an idiot and no surprise you’re a fan of that clown greens senator.

That girl didn't do any of that so I think a fine for her and a good behaviour bond.
We all know the real criminals are the governments bringing in these targeted draconian laws and the fossil fuel companies making massive profits at the expense of a decent world to live in.
The police and governments have gone beyond their powers and are using hyperbole to shut a legitimate protest movement down imo.

You're a puppet for the polluters and want to deny freedom of speech and the right to protest.
Enjoy your 46°C day summers and the floods you goose.
What sort of tool disagrees with the UN human rights advocate? You.

I have zero knowledge of this case, but if she damaged property or was violent I don't care.

The laws have to be equal for all protesters, be they on the side of a righteous cause, or cookers banging on about FREEDOM!!!

These new laws were drafted specifically for climate protesters, because of a 2GB campaign and have been conedemned by the UN.

That doesn't mean shit, they may be the trigger but it will be applied to both.

You honestly think Dom is Gunna let freedom freaks rock a gallows in Martin Place?

From 8 months ago, 'The New South Wales government announced on Thursday that it would ramp up its response to protests by the climate group Blockade Australia, including the creation of a strike force aimed at disrupting activists, increased penalties and possible jail time.'
They formed a strike force specifically to target Blockade Australia in their meeting places.
They were stalking them in their bush camp.

And are they letting others do similar protests?

No but they set up a specific strikeforce to intimidate Blockade Australia people so at least admit that.
A specific law and taskforce aimed at climate protesters.

And that's not the law or regulation, that's the application of it.

They have strikeforces to tackle speeding at schools, but it doesn't mean the reduced speed limits apply to only schools

It's a rough law, but it's only unfair if it's enforced selectively

It is forced selectively. There's no taskforce to target other groups.

About time.

Love all these people clamouring on about peaceful protests when she blocked traffic including an ambulance and carried with her a modified explosive.

"Coco had pleaded guilty to seven charges including using or modifying an authorised explosive not as prescribed and resisting a police offer during arrest."
Here you go.Aussie supporters just now with flares, aka modified explosives.
Quick put them all in jail for 8 months. Alas the police just watch on because they're not climate protesters.

It's been in place for five mins.

How many similar shutdown protests have been in Sydney by other groups since the law came in?

No govt on the planet condones violent and/or disruptive protests. As we saw in Victoria

It wasn't violent and the UN condemned the prison sentence. You've got this one wrong.

There is protesting to have your say and there is repeatedly being a massive public nuisance and selfish personal attention seeker. Finally she ran out of chances and has accordingly been given an appropriate punishment that should make her now think twice before engaging in such idiocy.

The irony is of course with all this is that it probably does their cause far more harm than good.

Look at you, simping for an authoritarian government.

Gina would be proud of you Kram.

The anti lockdown/mandate protestors again wondering why they weren't afforded a decent level of empathy from the general public.

They shared the same 'lock em up' views on protesters like Voilet well before 2020.

Having said that she shouldn't be immune from some form of punishment, just not as disproportionate as a prison sentence in an environment where more serious criminals get suspended sentences.

Meanwhile a politician caught using his taxpayer funded expenses to pay his yacht mooring fees plus pay for strippers, restaurants, alcohol etc and who misled the corruption commission who tagged him was given a suspended sentence & a 12k fine.

His lawyer outside court said the episode had caused him significant distress & embarrassment while the judge found little evidence of contrition.

I know which one I think belongs in jail.

Or maybe both deserves jail.

Just because someone else gets off ridiculously lightly doesn't mean a serial nuisance with a string of offenses doesn't need to be finally need to be sent a real message.
