Seedsman maybe ale to turn into this type of player in the future, but we need this type of player now. We are still premiership contenders, even after a year like this one was where we dropped off a bit.

he is a unristricted free agent as too why we should definitely be looking at him
Didn't know that, we should offer him a little more than what the Hawks have and take him off their hands. Has a little bit of the Heath Scotland's about it this story, he had a shocker in the grand final and all of a sudden the Hawks don't want him.

does seedsman have a deadly kick on him??? havnt really paid much attention to him this season.

Low and quick ~50m kick off a step.

I think he won't make best 22 until 2014, unless he puts in a massive preseason but he will be a player. Either as a HBF linebreaker/distributor or as a winger.

I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to Young, but I can't get over his effort against Kieran Jack in the GF. He'd make Didak look like Luke Ball. Soft soft soft. Still, if we can get him on the cheap and hammer out that pea heart, I'd be happy with it. His offensive capabilities are impressive.

He'll fight right in then
Well seeing as he had 21 mates a week back, that also added in choking to pants shitting and being soft as butter. It'd probably be the right thing for him to stay at hawthorn

Haven't seen this raised anywhere to date about your thoughts of recruiting Clinton Young from Hawthorn to Collingwood.

Played 20 of 25 games this year, 116 games for 60 goals.

Has plenty of run and carry and a penetrating left-foot kick. Good size - 189cm/87kg.

Would be good on a wing and provide well needed outside run without costing anything as he is a restricted free agent.

Thoughts?
I rate his skills is a good size however we have enough similar players, I think we need some mongrel back I know we were missing Ball, but we need to be fierce and be feared again.
Don't think our main competition are worried anymore , glad to get Lynch but would like to add an agrresive defender and get shaw on a wing with Sidebottom at half forward and a bit of luck keep Dawes as I think he can rediscover some form playing with Cloke and Lynch.

So why would we offer up pick 17 for a player you acknowledge fails to fire in finals. For me pick 17 needs to be used on a quality draft pick.
Thats bullshit about how he cant perform in finals. You cant judge that until the end of his career.

The problem with Young is that he's a classic home and away footballer, who looks great for 22 weeks of the season, but when the pressure and intensity lifts in the finals he falls away and is found out.

Having said that, if the Eagles are going to give us pick 17, maybe we can use that to give to the Hawks for Young, wouldn't be a terrible swap, Sharrod for Young.

Was close to BOG in 08 GF.

4 years ago.after his effort in the goal square against Jack last week including his effort that day I say NO.

Matty123 is right home and away specialist.
lol you can't call the guy a h&a specialist because he tripped over in the goalsquare.

He would be in the top 10 players at our club if we were to get him.

If thats the case we had a lot of "home and away specialist" in the prelim and on grand final day v Geelong.

Good footskills. Best 22 for Hawthorn.

There are similar players available through the draft so I wouldn't trade into him with the outside depth good both this year and next.
I don't think so! I don't care if he's into wearing dresses, dolls and afternoon tea parties: players of his size, mobility and penetrating kick are extremely rare. I've really rated him for 4-5 years.

Re. the free agency thing some posters are bringing up, surely the window is now closed and we'd have to trade for him as with any other player - or, have I got it wrong?

Magnus the Pie, this from the AFL website:

  • The AFL Free Agency period runs from 9am October 1 to 5pm, October 19.
  • The AFL exchange period runs from October 8 to 2pm, October 26.

Clinton Young is still gettable as a restricted free agent.
This is going to be a long month...........lol!!!

If we have the cash and we can get him for no picks then I would say yes for sure. We need someone to do the kick ins and get the ball out of our back half. Another possibility for this role for next year would be Didak if he is fit.

Didaks ability to compete one and one is finished. You could probably carry him but its a liability taking him in to games now.

You might be right, however some food for thought would be Leon Davis who was finished at the end of 2010, however he still had one year on his contract. He was given an oppotunity to compete in the back line despite it being rumoured he couldnt win a one on one to save his life. I cant remember him loosing a one on one all year and he won AA selection.

I agree with this, unless you he has a miraculous preseason he won't be best 22. He is 1/2 the player he was in 2010 and we can't afford to carry a guy who doesn't tackle, is poor on 1%'s, bad 1v1 when they're just an average player

Bit harsh there. I thought when Didak played towards the end of the season we looked much better. He is a dangerous and creative player and needs a few games under his belt but injuries are now a big concern.

Sounds harsher than it is. ATM a miraculous preseason for him is one that involves not getting injured. if he can do that and get back the penetration in his kicking then he's obviously best 22. I just think it will be pretty tough to get back since he has been injured for most of the past two years. He has to be at his best though to warrant his selection because he doesn't do the little stuff that our fringe players are prepared to do.

I think he would be very handy off half back with his skills. It all depends on what sort of dollars he wants though. If we can fit him in I say why not. The only thing that concerns me is his injuries - very injury prone.

A lot of people potting him for his GF slip, something he will probably cop for the rest of his career - much like Rhyce Shaw has. Its an isolated incident and anyone who take the time to watch his 2008 first half in the GF before his knee went will know he can perform on the big stage.
