Hes contracted, so they have to trade.
Not beyond this season. Please stop posting. Have some lunch. Take a nap. Do anything. Just don't post.

Hawthorn are trying to convince wingman Clinton Young to stay with the hawks, instead of agreeing to a 3 year deal put to him by Collingwood after touring the Wedtpac centre and meeting with Nathan Buckley earlier in the week.

Young is currently weighing up his options.

Hope we find what he is doing soon

Maybe we can trade #17 for Young's UFA ticket, that way Hawthorn keep Young and we get a UFA ticket.

:p

Does anyone know where Young lives?
We can all chip in a few $$ & send Dave down there in a taxi.
Dave, do you have a small tent you can set up?

Doesn't seem favourable to me.

I don't think the articles are suggesting collingwood have to trade for Young, merely that he may not wish to take advantage of his status as an unrestricted free agent, thereby hurting the club that he has spent his career at. It's actually quite admirable, but it doesn't mean we have to play along. As TRS said, if the only thing that comes out of trying to sign Young is that Hawthorn have to pay more, then that is still a good outcome for us. Eventually the newspaper articles that we are constantly subjected to (how do we pay our stars, and who will we inevitably lose?) will be directed Hawthorns way.

It is likely Hawthorn are going to keep him. It is beyond me, why they want a trade.
They have asked for our pick 17 for him.

Stop draining it drainer.

You already know there's no trading involved.

Y U NO call me anymore?

Any truth to the rumour that you are offering picks 17 and 18 for him? ;)

The AFL need to run an information program on tv to explain how it all works and make sure all journalists/gossip writers watch it! It looks like Gilham or Murphy will be forced out which would free up some cash that can be used on Young.

Yer

Yer, I think you guys will keep him.....the longer this drags on. If he was going via free agency, I think he would have done the deal by now.....he's obviously thinking long & hard.....which favors the Hawks.

Yeah there are some absolute simpletons in the media, thats for sure

*SIGH* This thread has gone off topic and even worse, very boring.

Getting back on topic - I think Clinton Young would be a good pickup for us. One statistic I think should be considered is how many inside 50's he is providing the key forwards for Hawthorn. Now that we have the Q-Stick to go up with Cloke, we have a better opportunity to kick it quickly over the flood of players to the key forwards to take advantage of Cloke's ability to take a contested mark plus our defensive pressure and array of goal kickers to convert once we have it.

Clinton Young at equal 8th (with Joel Selwood) is the only player in the top 25 in this stat that is actually on the market, with most of the others proven guns or up and coming stars:

2012 AFL League Total Inside 50s Leaders (Minimum 5 Games Played)

Rank Player Team Games Inside 50s for Last Game Total
1 Patrick Dangerfield Adelaide 138
2 Kieren Jack Sydney 129
2 Brett Deledio Richmond 129
4 Lewis Jetta Sydney 116
4 Trent Cotchin Richmond 116
6 Dayne Beams Collingwood 109
6 Chris Masten West Coast 109
8 Joel Selwood Geelong 108
8 Clinton Young Hawthorn 108
10 Brad Sewell Hawthorn 107
11 Ryan Griffen Western Bulldogs 106
12 Andrew Gaff West Coast 105
13 Jarrad McVeigh Sydney 104
13 Shane Tuck Richmond 104
15 Scott Thompson Adelaide 103
16 Gary Jnr Ablett Gold Coast 101
17 Sam Mitchell Hawthorn 100
18 Matthew Boyd Western Bulldogs 98
18 Travis Boak Port Adelaide 98
20 Andrew Swallow North Melbourne 97

There are multiple reasons to trade with Hawthorn for Young.

1. To keep a good reputation at the Hawks, if we come in and look after them by taking a player they clearly want, in the future if they want one of our players who wants to go there or vice versa there will be no grudges and the deal will go off alot easier. On the flip side look at Carlton, after what they did to us with Cloke trying to take him for free, going after Lynch, buttifant and Malthouse putting us through hell all of the time. Do you think there is any chance we are going to trade with them for Dawes who they want? I doubt it. Healthy relationships between clubs are always a good thing. Especially if it ends up us giving them a pick in the 30s-40s which we won't use anyway. I would seem it is highly unlikely any deals with St Kilda and Essendon will happen for a while due to the Goddard incident.

2. Maybe they are planning on bringing a free agent in and don't want to lose their compensation for losing Young? Especially if the FA they want is not to the standard of Young and assuming that they have the salary to match our offer they would be less obliged if they are getting something for him. Refer to point 1.

3. Maybe someone is trying to lure Ben Johnson? We don't want to lose our comp pick :P

Well nothing has Happend

The free agency compo pick is the part that has to be taken into account here. Only clubs know who they are targeting in the next TWO WEEKS. I wouldn't be surprised if a few trades happen in week three. There will be a disgruntled player here or there knowing they were put up as trade bait. For Collingwood, I think we need fast trades because we are running close to tpp and need to know where we are at. We might have factored in losing players already to meet Clokes contract. Therefore, we still may be waiting on Dawes situation before we can contract Young.

There is no doubt some clubs have prepared for this new trade model and come out all guns blazing.
