Can I have McGuire's job ? $2mil - $5mil (depending upon who you read) for doing nothing.

$2mil-$5mil which is it?
What your ultra reliable media outlet can't tell you?...
Your post is an absolute example of what I am talking about.
In the absence of any facts make something up.
You're a shoe in for an ACA research job...

toddle off now back to your board...oh you don't have one.

Makes me sick to my guts to hear about cloke gettin bashed by a bunch of thugs, and im assuming a huge amout of alcohol played its part.

Binge drinking is far, far too tolerated in our community and we need something done urgently to stop the havoc it causes. The actions of cloke sticking up for a friend is something most of us would of done but we may not of come off as well as he did ( though he still copped a fair wack) and the treatment he received could of happened to any of us.

Sorry ive rambled a bit.

The fact that he plays against my team is totally irrelevant as really, hes just a young fella he got set upon by a pissweak gang , who only are tough when they are in a group. I hope he presses charges as far as he can go and these chickenshits feel the full force of the law.

I, and im sure a lot of other supporters who were born with brains, have a new found respect for cloke now.

There's an update posted on the official site:

http://collingwoodfc.com.au/tabid/5586/Default.aspx?newsid=71145

Following an incident that occurred on New Year’s Eve, Travis Cloke met with a specialist on Monday morning.

Scans revealed that Cloke sustained minor facial bone fractures that don’t require surgery.

“It was an unfortunate incident but the news I received on Monday was positive and I’m looking forward to getting back into training,” Cloke told collingwoodfc.com.au.

Cloke will resume training on Wednesday and is expected to be available for the NAB Cup.

Been a nasty New Year.. my mate lived in that house in Chirnside park that caught fire and one of his best mates died.. he got the poor guys 4 and 6 year old daughters out but they had to stand on the lawn listening to him screaming inside the house.. he was the only one downstairs in a den adjoining the garage, everyone else was upstairs and got out pretty easily.. my mate kept saying over and over.. "I just couldn't get to him"

Jeezus freakin christ.[/QUOTE]

Geez I hope those kids are to young too remember their Dad's screaming. What a terrible way to go.

Nothing more I love than going to a game with clever supporters of both teams. Seeing who gets the biggest laugh from a smart-arse comment but witty enough to get both sides laughing - and when both sides' supporters can point out and applaud good football.

Cheers couchy. Glad to also hear that big Trav is on the mend.

Rubbish, only old people and parents whinge about binge drinking and most of the time they have no clue.
Of course the footy club will say Cloke was "asking them to stop" in a nice way. I would imagine that Cloke would've asked a little more aggresively than that and the guys flipped out. I'm not saying this is fair or that this is what happened but i hardly think neither Cloke or his friend threw in a few "C&#S or F&#S" after some girl got hit in the head.

I agree with D Mitchell. Footy clubs are the kings of spin and everything they say i take with a pinch of salt. You can't even find out about an injury without being fed bollocks. Footy clubs hire people (and pay them a lot of money) to make sure what gets released is fluffed up nice and comfy. I'm not saying the News media is 100% reliable (especially when you have nuffers like Walls writing) but i wouldn't put all my faith in footy clubs for balanced news.

And the police, ambulance drivers, people who get bashed, people who get their property vandalised, people who are injured in car accidents caused by drink drivers etc etc.

Maybe old people and parents whinge about it because they realise the damage that it causes? no?

New light on Cloke attack story

12:00a.m. 5th January 2009

While police continued their investigation into the alleged New Year’s Eve assault on Collingwood forward Travis Cloke in Maroochydore, those at the centre of the allegations have come forward to tell their side of the story.
Concerned they have been “painted in a bad light”, people who attended the party at the Sebel Resort, where Mr Cloke allegedly suffered a facial injury, contacted the Daily “to put the other side out there”.
On Friday a Collingwood Football Club spokesman told the media that Mr Cloke, 21, was “set upon by eight to 10 individuals” after confronting a group about throwing ice onto the balcony where he and friends were celebrating New Year’s Eve.
But those inside the unit where Mr Cloke was allegedly assaulted said the story had been twisted.
A local man who contacted the Daily said his friend who owned the Sebel unit was a Sunshine Coast professional and the group was made up of respectable business men and women who had “just wanted to celebrate New Year’s Eve with friends”.
Just after midnight, three men had entered the unit uninvited – apparently through a bedroom sliding door which was taken off its tracks – and accused the partygoers of throwing ice at them.
“One of the guys – we didn’t know who he was or anything but from pictures we have seen after we believe to be Travis Cloke – started accusing us of throwing ice over the balcony,” he said.
“We all backed off and then a couple of the girls who were at the unit with us told them they were trespassing and to get out.
“They wouldn’t leave and the altercation escalated to pushing and shoving and then the fighting took place.
“He just came in to our unit and started talking about the ice and then it got more and more aggro as we asked him to leave and he wouldn’t. Then everything happened and the police and security were called.
“But it wasn’t eight or 10 guys on three of them. Those numbers just don’t add up. There were only seven or so guys at our party and another three or four girls and not all of those seven guys were involved in the incident.”
Police investigators continued gathering statements yesterday, while Mr Cloke was driven back to Melbourne by his father.
The Collingwood club’s spokesman did not return the Daily’s calls.

Wow. The offenders have a different side to the story.

I was expecting them to come clean and admit to an assault on a high profile public figure and cop their right whack, especially while facing charges.

Whether Cloke provoked any attack the facts are, Cloke was assaulted, Cloke didn't assault anybody, and assault is highly illegal so it changes nothing in regard to a dog act.

Seriously, it would take at least 1 bloke of the same size of Cloke to bring him down. He was clearly assaulted by more than one offender.

Note the revealing use of the distancing, deadening passive voice above - mark of a bad writer/speaker, or of a liar. He gives himself away with the coupling of it (got aggro) and we (asked him).

That altercation guy is one agressive bastard.

I feel for the road victims and their families. Old people and parents a lot of the time blame problems on binge drinking when sometimes it isn't necessary, sober people vandalise and punch on with cops too. It reminds me of everyone having a teary over 'alocpops' then taxing them hoping this'll curb binge drinking.
Anyway, i know there's another side to the story but wow these guys have gone above and beyond for a different side. Seems a little far fetched.

i have just gotten back from hols and was staying at the resort where these guys worked. they were apparently bragging about it to some of their work colleagues who mentioned it to me knowing i was a Pies fan. sort of just doesnt make sense that Cloke would go up there for no reason and start a blue does it!!!! hope he does sue them....

respectable sunshine coast business men is kind of funny huh......these folks have a sense of humour! Based on what I understand they do it is a massive stretch.....

It would be a fair bet that this was written by "their" lawyer ( so almost definitely a liar) and worded to give them best chance of defending the assault charges that Cloke has laid.
It is a classic case of a "their word against ours" defense.

Also, why is it that the Police and security called came at the request of one Travis Cloke and not "respectable goldcoast businessman" man.

Respectable Sunshine Coast businessmen? Are there such things? I highly doubt it. If they were Sunshine Coast businessmen, perhaps they could show the white shoes they were wearing at the time. As for the respect...pull the other one!!!!

Still, we could hardly expect them to come out and say "Yeah, we low life thugs decided to prove what a bunch of brainless w***ers we are by bashing Travis Cloke"

Ah Jesus, that's hilarious. What's it to be Queensland gents? You'd think that if someone was crashing a party, taking a door off a railing and entering uninvited, they wouldn't then present some feeble excuse for coming in. 'Ah, we've decided to bust in to your little party because, umm, you threw ice at ice.'

Please. If you're going to construct a story about someone gate-crashing a party, at least ditch the ice-throwing palava. It would have been more convincing to say 'we don't know anything about the ice-throwing accusations, that is a ccomplete fabrication. We were minding our own business when three guys decided to bust in.' That at least has some plausibility about it.

They could also have said 'these guys were desperate to crash our petty nerd party, obviously nothing better was on offer for wealthy young football stars in Queensland'.

Again, what's it to be? Were they wanting to crash the party or raise an objection to the behaviour of these respectable businessmen? It's hard to believe they wanted to crash this petty gathering. If they wanted to object to their behaviour, the front doors a chancey option.

Quite possibly Travis and friends knocked on the door a few times and only recieved derision and no response, leading to the lads lifting off a door railing. If that's the case, they sound likearseholes, and suck shit.
