 After watching the debacle of the finals game against Essendon, I am most depressed that we are stuck with our current Coach. so many people I have spoken with agree that he is too slow to make moves and easily outcoached (eg Swans debacle at Telstra Dome).
In the Essendon game he didn't touch a forward setup that was a complete failure until 1/2 time - too late to change the game.
I would welcome any comments pro or anti.

they have re-signed him untill the end of 06 which i think was a mistake, they should have waited untill the end of next year and seen what was going to happern, being an odd year if melbourne dont make the 8 next year with the list we have, then they should show him the door.

correction, he was signed until 2007, which is 10 years since he first signed on in 1997...

He's no good playing players like phil read, simon godfrey and james macca in the midfield every game, but dont get me wrong those 3 are great players but he chose guts and hardness over skill and i dont understand why best players yze, green, bruce etc... start in the backline and foward line every game

Neale Daniher has done a lot of great things for melbourne but his game day coaching is average. When the trend of a game changes & its obvious to everyone in the stadium he does nothing. When we start getting on top he'll rest the players that are lifting us (usually a predetermined midfield rotation). When the entire opposition defence are around neitz we keep kicking it to him anyway. We seem to play 2 styles of footy - free & hard running direct footy that is a match for anyone or embarrassing sideways kick to kick with 15m chips before we inevitably hand the ball over and cop a goal & in our bad years/games we play the latter style. I think we've been underperforming for a while given the available talent - next year we have NO excuse to go backwards like we have in previous years. Anything less than the top 6 & Neale should tear up the contract himself!!

I'm a huge fan of ND. He is a smart astute coach who will see a plan come to fruition in the next 3 years.

He isn't as bad on match days as everyone thinks he is. This label has unfortunately stuck with him from a time when the list was one dimensional due to lack of playing stock. Our playing list still has its limitations and coaches like Sheedy exposes them. ND is aware of them and is in a plan to rectify this.

Our KPPing stock is limited. Holland is not a backman as he is slow and not mobile. Nicho is limited and can be exposed. Rivers is too young and too slight at this stage. Miller is a natural forward still learning the game.Nieta is extending his playing career playing as a FF.

Feruson and Smith will come into the team eventually to give our coach more option. They should push out Holland and Nicho, and they can play forward or back.

Junior, Godfrey and Read are all hard at it with poor decision making and disposal. Sylvia, McLean, Maloney, Armstrong and Bell are similar types who easily have better footy smarts and disposal. They can all play forward or back when being rotated.

ND is a brilliant coach as he knows that 90% of coaching is done in the lead up to the year/game. He may be in his 7th year, but he has improved in the 7 yrs and keeps on improving. IMO he has worked out an excellent plan for sustained success and a premiership

Never threatened since? I'm no big ND fan but get a clue.

You're right. There was a stage in 2002 after we knocked off Brisbane and West Coast AWAY in successive weeks that we were rated as the best Victorian chance for a flag. And then of course we came very close to a preliminary final spot so we did threaten a bit that year.

This year we also threatened as we reached the top after Round 18 but sadly we died off in the remaining rounds of the year.

Anthony Rock will fit in nicely. He is great with the youngsters. :)

I think Neil will like to have his help and support.

Good luck

I think the Dees have erred in resigning ND, before the end of next year. If we have a poor year next year would we sack him? I doubt it, yet he still won't have changed the trend of odd/even year performances. (Personally i think we will go very well next year). I will give Neale his dues in that he was fantastic as "the Reverend" this year and i hope it continues, he just needs to smarten up his match day work, be more proactive in that department rather than waiting too long to make a change. Good luck to the Demons next year.

They won't if the team plays with the same amount of confidence like they did this year.

I reckon the reverend is a great coach. My only critcism of him is that he tends to show too much faith in his players sometimes. O thers interpret this as being too slow to make a move. I thaught that part of his coaching improved dramatically last season.

Well. the way i look at it - he has brought stability to the club that was sorely needed..

in 97, we looked like absolute rubbish on and off.

He has taken us to a Grannie, cleaned the team of rubbish and brought a great attitude to football.

He is probably the best coach the dees have had in a total view since i started barracking for the dees.
