We did lose our captain before the test started and we inserted a captain who was a bowler which we have never done for about 40 years......so it all could of gone to poo. Plus we did have the poms crapping on about how we where ripe for the picking before the series started

Yes england are poor but you can only play who you have in front of you so Langer does deserve the credit along with the other selectors for there selections and for winning 4 nil

Also the t20 which we have never won in our history is a huge effort.....we went for a pace attack when everyone said you needed more spin.....that was Langer and selectors backing in the players....but according to some of the posts on here we only won because we won the coin toss .....lol turn it up

Atm cricket Australia are treating langer like a piece of sh**t . All of this leaks coming from the senior players who by the way where very instrumental in sandpapergate having a whinge because Langer gives them a rocket for playing crap ....please do you believe that the new coach is going to get on with all the players....I guarantee he will not

As I said before its Langers role to get the best out of the players and to wins games not to be there f**ken friend.....look at Buchanned....Warney whinged about him for years.....didn't effect the result though...australia won games

Bloody boys club !!!

It's still England who everyone are thrashing in test cricket. The summer prior we were smashed senseless by India.

You can't deny the coin toss was important the stats don't lie there. To be fair we probably win the final regardless as NZ played dreadful but the stats don't lie across the whole tournament and it was expected.

Look I get what you are saying with the players but a happy team is more likely to be a successful one, especially with long tours coming up. I have said I'd give him another year, wouldn't be in a rush to sack him. However I want him excluded for good on selections, we are less likely to have any Harris or Marsh selections going on. He's there to coach, the end.

Getting to the stage we do not have a coach, can you just imagine Smith,Warner and co.running the show.

Well they happen to be our best players, it's like every sport your best players get the coach they want.

While you are around on BF there will always Harris and Marsh issues. For goodness sakes who is selected for Australia get behind them and support them instead of this negative stuff you have against a lot of our players. You keep having a go at Harris,s selection but Warner did not do much better in the ashes series.

Warner got two 90’s he was much better and he caught well. He wasn’t perfect but he sure was better than what Harris dished up. That selection was a shocker but it wasn’t just Langer the whole selection panel needs to own up there it’s a shame the buck only stops at the coach there. We should have played Street or Hunt instead we are forced now to play Khawaja as an opener who hasn’t done it for years and overseas to make this worse. We had a big opportunity this summer against a poor side and didn’t use it which was unfortunate. I don’t just blame Langer though.

Just give Langer another year and let’s Re evaluate everything after the sub continent tour. Don’t know why we are in a rush.

Isn't he out of contract in June? Will his ego accept a smaller contract

How can you tell they worked though? The only team we've beaten is England who are woeful. I'd rather be waiting until after the sub continent tours, the proof will be in the pudding so to speak after that period.

for the record I'm not saying sack him, I'm for a short term extension but there has to be a line, he hasn't really done much yet as coach, he's no Buchannon yet!
Buchanan was a numpty, an inanimate carbon rod could’ve been coach of that side and the results would’ve been the same

Its very interesting logic to think a bloke who played 105 tests being praised in the media by blokes who he played with and by journalists in his state is not the boys club in this situation.

Just extend it for 12 months. That lets us make a better call on Langer as a coach.

Warner had an average of 34.12,Harris 29.83.Harris is 5 years younger then Warner and Khawaji and surely will be in the squad to go to Pakistan.(not saying he will play 1st test)To late to take Street/Hunt on that tour and save them for next summer test series in Austrralia if required.Khawaji only played the last test because he got 2 tons in the 4th test and Head come back in which squeezed Harris out.Still a question mark for me for a lot of those Australian batsman, our bowlers won the ashes for us.

Warner did catch better though that’s a factor. He’s going to be opening. I’m hoping like anything Harris is as far away as the squad as can be…jeez I’d almost rather Marsh (and I puke at that thought). We have to be careful what bats we take overseas.

I presume you mean M.Marsh and he will not open.If a squad of 20 I would think opening batsman would be Warner,Harris,Khawajhi and lets say Street. Our current batsman on Indian wickets really worry me and where we should still consider Maxwell and it seems the selectors are.His ability to play spin bowling, fielding and handy spin bowler himself could be a plus but no red ball cricket since 2019 is a concern.

Reference to series that are basically ancient history is pointless, imo.

For a start, as a result of those results, he changed how he worked, and those changes led to a very successful period.

To now say "well, we lost to India four years ago" would be like sacking Simon Goodwin today because Melbourne didn't make the finals in 2020.

You're suggesting the Test series we played before the Ashes is ancient history? A 2nd XI could have beaten England here.

I feel like this discussion isn't covering what's actually happened. Langer was basically a dead man walking and was almost certainly going to be removed as coach at the end of his tenture.

What we are discussing (at least in my view) is if recent results deserve to flip that around and see him stay on.

In my view only the T20 World Cup should have an impact as no one expected us to win it. The Ashes was a forgone conclusion based on the last series here where it was clear the English FC system is never going to produce the required cricketers to beat us here, Cricket Australia already knew that.

Get rid of Harris and pick another one. I’d be looking at every opener not including Harris. We know how the Harris thing ends. I’m not sure they will bother with Maxwell, they have batsmen spinners in Lab and Head in the side and that is if his bowling is even test quality really. However it’s better than the Harris idea so I’d be picking him over a few options at least. I doubt we take 20 players

Not anymore they are not...warner is in his fading years and smudge since the england tour has been average

I'd still be backing Smith in the sub continent over our entire batting unit

Yeah still back him in but he is not our best batter atm ...that would be marnus based on recent stats

Yes, but in the next series(s) our fortune rests on Smith. Lab has never played there. I hope they both score a lot, but I have faith in Smith more.

If only the players gave as much loyalty to him as he has given to them.

Dragged us off the carpet as a team who were on their knees.
Humiliated and hated by most of the other countries.

Then had to play for a year without our 2 best batsmen.

Holders of the T20 WC.
Currently ranked number 1 test team in the world.

But yep, it's his fault when we lose but when we win, it's because of the players and assistants.

Fair enough.......

But it is just CA screwing things up as they have one for many years pre South African debacle.
Where were they when De Kock attacked Warners wife?
Where was Sutherland in the early stages of the saga.
They did nothing to stamp out the bad culture under Lehmann. It was rampant, yet CA, let it simply roll on.
What they are doing to Langer is just once again showing the incompetent's that get put into these positions of power in CA.
CA are a law unto themselves.
It also looks a bit like Mr Nice Guy, has become the smiling assassin of Australian cricket. MY thoughts on him will be different from here in.

The better results have come since langer was forced to take on a much smaller role in the sdie, this is real its documented it happened but you guys just pretend its make believe.

“Everything has really been player-driven,” Hazlewood said. “He’s probably taken a big back seat and let a lot of other staff play their roles, especially the players as well, to take a bit more ownership of what they’re doing in and around training and games.”

its not like the players are even hiding it they have come out and said exactly what other reports have been suggesting, langer was pushed to the margins after the player mutiny and the success followed that move.

As the Poms would say BOLLOCKS.

Don't know where you pull that from TBH.

My main concern is that a large majority blame him for selections or when we lose, yet he hardly gets any credits for when we do well. Just like you have done.

It's pretty hard for a coach to be judged when using that criteria TBH.

what is? hazlewoods quote or the story after story saying exactly that? the player mutiny actually happened you know this right? langers role was reduced after the mutiny this is widely known outside of it some WA blokes on bigfooty believing langers abrasive coaching style was what won them the 20/20 wc and ashes.
