Bassett is a very smart operator and a straight shooter. He's no yes man and will challenge current thinking.

I think we've told the story from a player sponsorship dinner where Tom Jonas spoke very highly of Bassett and how he had helped Tom's career.

I'd think dew reckons he's ahead of any three years in the sanfl curve and probably rightly so.

No he didn't. In fact, I used to know some guys who went to school with Bassett (my mate played soccer with them) and they told me the reason Bassett hated Port as a player was because of the whole Port v Norwood thing. Said he actually used to treat Showdowns as a Norwood v Port game. They reckon he 100% considered the Port Adelaide team playing in the AFL to be the same club he as a Norwood man grew up hating.

GARRY HOCKING ending his rule with the SANFL Magpies to concentrate on AFL duties at the Power. This is in line with his appointment with the Magpies originally set as a two-year deal.

TYSON EDWARDS stepping away from the Power forwards brief. His options extend beyond Alberton, where he could remain as a development coach. He already is being attached to the Gold Coast, where senior coach Rodney Eade has been guaranteed an expanded football program with more assistant coaches.

Side note, what about Goodes as a forwards coach? Comes from a successful system, talented himself, a mentor for our indigenous lads and seems to be a fairly switched on chap.

Coach us as he parachutes into a safe Labor seat for the next election?

John Barker will surely be on the market if he doesn't get a senior coaching gig. Given his background is as a forward coach you'd think we'd be asking questions.

Jarrad Schofield would be my preference as Magpies coach. He's done a great job for Subiaco in WAFL the last few seasons. I'd be looking to offer him something like a two year deal with guaranteed transition to AFL assistant coaching if KPI's are met.
