With the start of the annual AFL Trading Period just a day away, the Mazda Kangaroos put the finishing touches to their new-look coaching panel with the appointment of Robert Pyman and Anthony Allen as assistant coaches today.

Pyman and Allen join newly-appointed senior coach Dean Laidley and long-time assistant coach Paul Hamilton at the Kangaroos, and will help launch an exciting new era for the Club.

For Pyman, 31, it is a return to Arden Street, where he played 16 games for the Kangaroos between 1993 and 1995.

In more recent times he has honed his coaching skills with Laidley under Mick Malthouse at Collingwood.

He comes to the Kangaroos with a reputation as a top match-day strategist and opposition analyst.

Allen, comes to the Kangaroos from the Box Hill Hawks and Hawthorn, where he assisted Box Hill and Hawthorn Development coach Don McDonald.

Allen had a distinguished playing career at VFL level, winning a Premiership and being named in Sandringham’s Team of the Century.

He is known for his work in the areas of player welfare and development and is a fine acquisition to the coaching panel.

Kangaroos Football Manager Tim Harrington was thrilled with the appointments of Allen and Pyman.

“Both Robert and Anthony have their own areas of expertise, and with Dean and Paul, will lead the Kangaroos coaching team into an exciting new era,” Harrington said.

“We now have a young, vibrant, but very experienced line-up of coaches and everyone here at the Club looks forward to working with them and continuing on the success the Kangaroos have enjoyed in recent years.”

Where did they get this Anthony Allen guy from. l personally have never heard of him, but that dont mean too much. It certainly seems to be a budget type team. l would estimate our whole coaching team would cost us less than Pagan on his own.

Going to be interesting to watch these guys in action, l havent researched it, but you would think this is most inexperienced coaching team in the league. The unknown factor is going to keep us talking til the first bounce next year.

Congratulations to Anthony Allen and Robert Pyman.

Totally agree Wrath.

I follow the footy pretty closely, but never heard of Anthony Allen. Maybe he comes over on Donald McDonald's recommendation.

Seems a very young and unexperienced team. From what i believe though, Laidley is very clear on what and how he will coach this team, and has chosen specific people to help him achieve his goals. Definitely looks a very 'hands on' coaching panel.

Well Anthony Allen was a fantastic VFA player for Sandy but will have to trust Laidley's judgement as far as his (and Pyman's!) coaching abilities go. Now it's done lets just get on with it!

As with the coachig position, the only people in the right spot to make the call are Laidley, Harrington etc etc who would have been locked in a room talking nothing but footy with each of these blokes.

If he thinks they are good, it is good enough for me.

Agreed and his (Allen) background in player welfare confirms what Laids said initially about developing the group. It looks like Laids is working to a plan, so we should give him the benefit of the doubt.

BTW, great to see that he kept Hamilton. A new role for the Hammer, but he is our link to the past.
