John Barker doesn't sound much good, surely we can do better! Every forward line he's coached is one that's gone to the boundary and got it's kicks there and been dysfunctional.

Who runs the Dogs/Swans/Melbourne/Collingwood/St. Kilda forwardlines? They seem to function pretty well.

Would we be interested in SOS or Peter Dean as coaches?

Edwards, Goodwin, McLeod, O'Bree, Tredrea, Akermanis, Johnson and Kirk have all retired this season. You would think at least one or two would come to Carlton.

Geez, I'm getting quite frustrated here hearing that Essendon are assembling a world class coaches box while we're seeking out a supposed hack in Barker.

Thought we were better than this and would be head hunting a little more ferociously.

I really dont know much about Barker, so I'll best leave any comments on hold.

I do agree with you BB. in as far as that it ceratinly looks that way, but maybe there is more happening under the current than we're aware of.
Just because we aren't make a song and dance about any possibilities doesn't mean we are sitting idle.

If a senior role is on offer elsewhere, you;d expect Williams or Laidely to look at it..but the talk is Essendon are throwing heaps of $$$$
like they;ve opened the old war chest and dusted gold (apparently) but you know it;s all just to please the members and to stabilise...just sit tight til the GF and other hysteria dies down.

Kiddin aren't ya???

Since when did we start sniffing around windy hill for slops????:thumbsd:

Come on Carlton, lets get real.

D. Pratt arrived, movement began

D. Pratt died, movement stopped.

Theres a lot of influential Carlton people out there, none who want to put

their hand up. I get the impression Swanny is the same man without the

blank chequebook.

Would be good to get Laidly or Williams. People forget that Williams won many minor premierships and a premiership. He's been a very successful coach. Laidly has never coached a quality list but was managing to squeeze every drop of talent out of an average North Melbourne list to get them into finals quite a bit.

Lloyd, Hudgton, Neitz, N Lappin, Bassett, Richardson, Ricciuto, Clement and Whitnall. Any of these guys a chance?

Will Teague get an oppertunity to step up as assistant coach?

Rivals circle Alan Richardson

ALAN Richardson might have been overlooked for the top job at Essendon, but it has done little to lessen his currency in a frenetic AFL coaching market.

It is believed Richardson, a highly rated assistant to the sacked Matthew Knights at Essendon, is being strongly courted by West Coast and Port Adelaide

Lools like Laidley may still be a possibility .........

Another former senior coach previously linked to the Dons, Dean Laidley, is a chance to provide tactical support to Brett Ratten at Carlton.

Not sure I would like to see Lappin at the filth :(

Two assistants who left the Blues, Brett Montgomery and Matthew Lappin, should also find new homes.

Montgomery is in the mix at one of his former clubs, Western Bulldogs, and Lappin has been linked to Collingwood.

Would be great to add Laidley to our coaching panel.

I believe he brings a hell of a lot to the table and his involvement will only improve our group.

Think we'll get one of Choc or Bomber T as some sort of mentor/senior assistant.
Alan Richardson (assume that's the Richardson mentioned above) will stay at EFC, in some role.
Bassett would be a good get. Think his SANFL side won the flag, or at least improved a bucketload???

The Blues have moved to bolster their depleted coaching staff as well with the appointment of former Hawthorn forward John Barker as an assistant to senior coach Brett Ratten.

Barker, 35, spent just two seasons at Hawthorn as forwards coach after 2007-08 at St Kilda under Ross Lyon.

Barker is the first coaching replacement since the Blues sacked former Port Adelaide and Western Bulldogs utility Brett Montgomery and former Carlton star forward Matthew Lappin almost after bowing out of this year’s finals with a narrow first week loss to Sydney.

Good appointment.
I like a coach who can grab the game by the balls.
