2nds Coburg V Werribee today at Avalon Oval

Went again this week. Two weeks in a row for me! Just missed the first quarter today.

The conditions were really good contrary to the week before. It was very windy at all and the temperature was perfect. Bit of rain at half time but nothing to make it overly slippery.

Post: Played mainly FB and a bit of CHB. Was really vocal and I think his job was to set up where everyone would stand when the ball was coming in. His foot disposal was quite good, hit a few targets but missed a 25m pass under no pressure to a player with no pressure. Did well on the 1 on 1's didn't get beaten too often. Would sometimes try and mark rather than punch aswell.

Thursfield: Played in a back pocket, FB / CHB sort of setup. Rotated a bit with Post. Thought he wasn't too bad. Used the ball OK besides one bad kick to the middle of the ground which should have resulted in a turnover goal. Wasn't really damaging (ie hasn't changed his game from what we're used to).

Jakobi: Not sure what number he was, so can't comment.

Morton: Don't think he should be in the bests like above. Didn't have much impact. Missed quite an easy goal. Didn't really present too much as a Full Forward. Played on the ball for a little while but I don't think he got too much of it. Not ready for a recall IMO.

Tuck: Goes in so hard and gives 100%. Have to applaud him for the way he's conducted himself in the VFL. He should be in for Richmond. Tackles hard, used it well, got a few clearances. Rested in the forward line, but not for long.

Nason: Was good again. Better than last week too. Used the ball very well and got a fair bit of it (perhaps 25+ at a guess). Mainly played on the wing / HBF. Really impressive, tackles hard and got tackled hard.

Graham: Much better than last week although the conditions suited him much better this week. Won at least 90% of the hitouts I'd say against Magak Daw. Beat him around the ground too. Disposal was OK / average at times but nothing too bad.

That's about it. Coburg were in it for 3 quarters and then got blown away in the last. They lacked a focal point up forward, I think. Didn't see Griffiths at all.

Any questions, let me know!
You being bias?
Morton kicked 3 goals. It was better than what Jack had done yesterday afternoon with 1 goal and 3 behinds.
But Morton isn't a full forward, whenever he stays in the forward line he goes missing. We tried that earlier in the season.

GG Werribee. GG. Could've been blown away.

What? Am I being bias? Are you kidding me?

Did you even go to the game?

Ben Griffiths
Unfortunately, was concussed during the first quarter after a promising start at centre half-back, and took no further part in the game.

Ben Nason
His best game for several weeks, highlighted by a very good work-rate and spread, particularly offensively. His 14 handball receives showed that he ran consistently throughout the game to link up play. Rounded out his performance with solid defensive pressure.

Angus Graham
Was dominant in the ruck with regards to hit-outs, but didn’t always give the team’s midfielders first use of the ball. Had no major impact in contests around the ground.

Shane Tuck
The experienced midfielder continued his recent good form. Was Coburg’s best player and highest possession-winner, with 37. Was very good around the stoppages, consistently winning first possession and providing spread, both offensively and defensively.

Mitch Morton
Kicked three goals and looked dangerous throughout the game. Showed his usual class when in possession.

Ben Jakobi
Played his best game for Coburg. Displayed good intensity, speed and ball use when rebounding from defence. Kicked a good goal in a contested situation to cap off an impressive performance.

Jayden Post
Had a good battle with dangerous Werribee and North Melbourne-listed forward Ben McKinley. Won plenty of the ball offensively and provided good rebound, finishing with 27 possessions.

Will Thursfield
Returned from injury and turned in a solid defensive performance, with good spoiling. Provided composed offensive rebound.

Robbie Hicks (Coburg reserves)
Played his best game for the year, with good work-rate throughout the game. Was dangerous around goals and got involved in several scoring chains. Linked up play with run and carry and his defensive efforts were an improvement.

Dean MacDonald (Coburg reserves)
Was busy early and had some scoring involvements. Faded out of the game after that and needs to find more consistency.

Harding should have been reported on the spot for that, I find it hard to believe that he wasnt. It was a back breaking type of incident, really Griffiths is lucky if he's just concussed. It was basically a tunnelling incident, which is frowned upon at AFL level, the VFL need to apply the same degree of punishent.

Looks like Harding is at it again this week
