Collingwood 2013 Phantom Draft - Selections

North Melbourne Pick 46.

Max Hayes 192cm 86kg.

Sandringham Dragons.

Max Hayes is a multi pronged strong bodied aggressive utility, he is probably too small for KP in the AFL but can develop into a damaging swingman similar to a Lewis Roberts-Thompson or Tyson Goldsack.

Hayes has intensity in spades and very clean hands in a contested marking situation and already being a healthy 86kgs can develop an even bigger frame and become somewhat of an enforcer.

Needs to find consistency and more of the footy to make it but could develop into the ultimate team man while playing a non starring role.

I selected him here for North as one of the few things they lack is a bit of flexibility with their bigger guys and dont really have a player of Hayes ilk.

# 48 GWS
Cameron Giles – WWT / 195cm / 93kg / ‘95
Very under rated type who I suspect will surprise come draft day. I think he is probably one of the better key defenders in the draft if not the 2nd or 3rd best. Was good at champs but thought he was more defensive than offensive which worried me a bit. In saying that, he showed enough to suggest that he backs himself in a contest and is happy to create an exit option. His defensive work seems sounds and is rarely ‘gotten a hold of’ as someone put it to me. His skills are good and he is very composed so has some attributes which may see him drafted a bit higher. Went back to SANFL though and was very good. Has speed and agility to play a few different roles and is already physically developed.

Wow. There's your bargain of the draft right there!

yeah I gotta say I was a tad surprised he made it to here but maybe I am missing something!

I just think it's the way things have panned out and there may also be a hint of the ruckman issue going on where KPD's are no longer "sexy".

We saw St Kilda do it with Delaney and Bruce. Sydney will likely try to do it post 2014 and Hawthorn are the masters of it.

#65 - Danny Seow
Couch Reserves, Paunchy

The mature age prospect looks to return to the Magpie fold after more than two decades in the wilderness. Won't go early due to his perceived outside game. Some recruiters believe his game is too outside with him spending an inordinate amount of time in the stands. But as a lifelong supporter with a massive work ethic it is expected Pies recruiters will look to pinch him here.

Pick 49 - West Coast

NICK ROBERTSON
188cm / 83kg
West Perth
Def/Mid

Nick Robertson is almost a Beau Waters clone, phenomenal one on one player, has extremely good endurance but has a turn of foot. Loves to run and carry and sets up play off half back but isn't considered an elite kick, but plays the percentages and limits turnovers. Very smart ball user with leadership qualities. Extremely hard at the footy and can be pushed into the midfield due to his elite endurance.

As a pies supporter, I would absolutely hate getting the two selections we have here.
How we looked over Billings at 6 is beyond me.
Then taking McCarthy?! Jesse White is a stop gap for this year while we hit next years free agency/strong KPF draft next year for our next T.Cloke.

We ended up getting Nathan Freeman

Sorry for bump
