Collingwood Depth Chart.
Ok. Got this idea out of the Jarrad Blight thread here on BigFooty, so I thought I’d have a crack at a depth chart, similar to the ones used by NFL teams to show the positional depth and order of their playing list.
Obviously an AFL list and playing team is made up completely different, and you can’t simply place a depth chart for each position, so basically I am going to cut it into categories.
Defense
6 players to be selected on field in defense, with 1 player on the bench, so consider the top 7 players listed here as “first 22” when everyone is fit and firing.
1. Simon Prestigiacomo
2. Nick Maxwell
3. Heath Shaw
4. Harry O’Brien
5. Alan Toovey
6. Nathan Brown
7. Tyson Goldsack
8. Ben Reid
9. Jarrad Blight
10. Jaxson Barham
11. Anthony Corrie
Midfield
The number of players on field in this category would be 6, with 2 on the interchange bench, most likely 1 resting/rotating ruckman and another pure midfielder. So the first 8 on here are in our best 22.
1. Scott Pendlebury
2. Dane Swan
3. Darren Jolly
4. Leon Davis
5. Alan Didak
6. Luke Ball
7. Josh Fraser
8. Steele Sidebottom
9. Shane O’Bree
10. Dayne Beams
11. Ben Johnson
12. Simon Buckley
13. Sharrod Wellingham
14.Cameron Wood
15. Ryan Cook
16. Josh Thomas
17. Ben Sinclair
18. Luke Rounds
Forwards
6 Players on field, 1 on the bench, making the top 7 here in our best 22.
1. Travis Cloke
2. Jack Anthony
3. Paul Medhurst
4. Dale Thomas
5. Tarkyn Lockyer
6. Leigh Brown
7. John McCarthy
8. Brent MaCaffer
9. Chris Dawes
10. Brad Dick
11. Sean Rusling.
Obviously, this number of players in each “category” could change, for example, you could drop Goldsack off the interchange and add an extra mid in O’Bree.
Also, if you wanted to design a "real" depth chart, you would place players who play in multiple positions in the lower section of another category as "backup" in case of injuries.
I just think this also gives us a fair idea of where our strengths and weaknesses are as far as positional depth.
Thoughts?
