Hope the club quickly let Shae know behind the scenes where he stands.

He'd be on a visa which probably means he doesn't have the luxury of simply going with the flow. And if he is leaving, it'd be good to give him as much opportunity as possible to find a gig at another club.

It'd be a big shame to lose him to the game.

He's been very active lately with making training videos and putting them on his website which shows he's keen to stay with AFL.

What is the Link to these Video's?

I wouldn't be disappointed if we retained him for another season.

Only thing playing against him is age (26). Pretty hard to retain a 26 year old who isn't close to playing.

But improvement has been very good and I wouldn't be against giving him another year depending on how many rookie changes we want to make.

If he does get delisted one thing I do hope Shae does is bring back the sport to the States as a promoter of the game, similar to what Brett Kirk is doing with his world travels.

Collingwood is taking a very close look at Frankston defender Mark Baguley. Had him in for a chat recently and could get him as a rookie.

Interesting, adding depth to our backline, not a bad idea with Brown coming off a knee injury and very little other depth.

Totally agree with this. His work ethic is immense and I'd be over the moon if we could retain him. Only problem is this season is going to be hard to make the necessary delistings.

if he makes afl at 28 he could still have 5 years in him seeing he hasnt spent many years in the hard hitting afl system or many injures, so his worth keeping considering his on very little pay and there are plenty of others on the rookie list i would delist ahead of him

This is related to our VFL list, but I think there is merit in embarking on an aggressive recruiting campaign to strengthen our team...

Our VFL team not playing finals at the moment is in my opinion our greatest worry in regards of winning an AFL premiership, I think we need to go out there and recruit some hard bodied players who can help out our younger guys...We are pretty well set in the ruck department and through the middle, so i would be looking at mid sized back and forwards. We need to play VFL finals..

Also whats the deal with a VFL reserve team? I know it is a costly venture but we are in a good financial position, if anyone was to do it it would be us.

Just going back to Bate, not that he is anything special but I have heard he is 100% going to GWS next year. Good move by GWS to get a experienced body in there albeit having not great skills and a good move for him because he can't get a game at Melbourne.

What would be the point of fielding a VFL reserves team? We aren't guaranteed to pick up any players that would play for that team and no fit listed player would ever play for us at such a low level.

I'm sorry if I seem overly critical or anything its just that its not really an option that I'd consider.

Good pickup. Should pay more attention to the twitterverse myself.

Have heard him mentioned. Versatile type for Frankston.

Haven't seen allot of his games but have heard he stands out because of leadership + work ethic.

As a rookie might not be a necessary delisting and same could be said about Reilly, both are more optional delistings since there are a few we are likely to get rid of anyway - Hunter, Reed, Perham. Then Bolton likely to be promoted.

But I do have both Reilly + Shae in the questionable pile. Even though the draft perhaps isn't so deep.

Good points.

I think the VFL side will be allot better next year. These 1st + 2nd year players will be going into their 2nd + 3rd years, any many of them are very competitive and look good enough to squeeze into the AFL squad for games - Seedsman, Bolton, J.Thomas among others.

Certainly not ideal that we miss out on a top 8 position in the VFL. A top 4 placing would be ideal. But I think our 2s will be stronger next season because we won't have the huge list turnover like last year with all those retirements which really hurt.

But the VFL reserve team idea is bang on. Costly yes. But we are about investing in our success. And through investing in our success expanding further and becoming an even stronger force. A VFL reserve side could give kids like Daniel Farmer, Paul Cribbin or Declan Reilly games against opposition more to their level of development early on before advancing to the next level. Might give a Ceglar the opportunity to play greater ruck minutes if we wanted to get ruck minutes into him because in situations like we have currently we simply cannot give ruck minutes to Wood, Ceglar, McNamara AND Witts.
As well as this also gives the Collingwood VFL players who don't play regular games in our VFL side that familiarity with our team structures where they can build up their form at that level and then come up to the VFL squad and immediately play and know their role.

Just remember that if Bate is going to GWS, then Scully is not (due to only being able to take the one player per club over their 2 year signing period). Unless GWS do similar to what Gold Coast did with Brisbane where they signed one, then traded for the other.

Great Point.

The VFL players do have affiliated teams they play with when they don't get selected for Collingwood, so they'd lose continuity playing the Collingwood game plan.

If having a VFL reserves would make the VFL team more successful (in the same way the VFL team makes the AFL team more successful) then that's got to be a good thing. Think of how valuable it'd be to the seniors if the VFL were playing finals footy now.

Just thought I'd pop in to confirm something guys.

Saturday night, while I wasn't at the football, the party I was at was full of Collingwood supporters, one of whom works with someone who works at Collingwood.

Now you may ask, who is this person who works at Collingwood? While I'm not allowed to say who it was, this person sits in the coaches box on game day, so pretty close.

The big name player we're going for IS Goddard. Whether we get him or not is obviously another ball game. But it was confirmed to me that Goddard is definitely the player we're after. Obviously this is all in a year or so's time when Free Agency kicks in.

What worries me, is that, are we going for Goddard because we know we're losing someone else? Pendles perhaps?

He also said Maxy's problem's go beyond his thumb. Nick's knee is f**ked as well. Similar issue to Jolly with bone on bone, which would explain his form all year too. I assume he'll be operated on in the off season for the knee.

If true about us into Goddard, interesting news indeed Ed.

It's been well documented that Maxy's knee ain't great but I don't ever recall anything wrong with Jolly's knee. In fact, Jolly's durability (150 odd games in a row) suggests he has never had any problems.

Sure, he missed games this year because of a knee injury but I don't Jolly's knee is in bad shape.

Yeah, but Jolly had surgery for his knee remember.

It's something that can be played through, but it causes pain and discomfort, which again, would explain Maxwell's form for the year, combined with the hit he copped pre-season.

I was told that Maxwell is unlikely to play again this year, but they're trying their best.

or option 3 he enters the ND or PSD.

Will be interesting to see the outcome with Maxy.

Personally, The Sack is ahead way ahead of him on exposed form at the moment. He would be very stiff if he was left out of our finals side the Sack.

.

Sounds like a Typical Hine Rookie Draft

or option 3 he enters the ND or PSD.

GWS aren't able to sign outgoing players that way. It was a rule set-up in order to ensure the existing clubs receive some sort of compensation for players they lose to GWS.

Effectively GWS can't draft any player that has been delisted from a senior list in 2011. If the rule wasn't in place last year GC would have taken Jack Anthony in the pre-season draft over Nathan Ablett.

Am I crazy for thinking we should consider drafting Fev as a mature-age rookie?

After Cloke and Dawes we basically have no depth for KP forwards since Jack Anthony left.

Keeffe has been played there out of necessity when he has been groomed as a KP defender. He's clearly a much better defender and still needs to learn a bit in that role before even thinking about trying him as a forward again.

If Fev was signed on a strict contract on minimum salary + incentives, then I think he could be a good fit.

The only critical areas age wise are Jolly and L Brown

Tarrant is older but Nathe Brown will slot back in and Davis and Johnson can be covered easily with all the kids coming through

But Jolly is 30yrs and only has Wood as a back up until Witts and Ceglar mature

and the guy backing him up in the ruck L Brown is 29.5yrs

We need another ruckman/forward

I personally think that the first rookie to get delisted would be Scott Reed, he's been there for 2 years and hasn't really done anything special, to memory.
