As long as we have Williams and someone else (Scharenberg/Langdon/Maynard etc playing deeper) then either McKenzie or Mullett can be assets. Both as types who don't win the contested ball will have their hot and cold years, but both can play roles we're missing and have an impact so either could be worth a shot.

That's true. But Williams does enough other things well for his footskills to be something that the team can still win with. If he is surrounded by good kicks, it's not a problem. Just as Heath Shaw isn't a good kick, but he's still one of the better general backmen in the competition for how well rounded his game is, Williams while he has a slightly different combination of strengths, his usefulness down back as with Shaw by position is beyond doubt.

It's like saying Nat Fyfe is a dud because he's a poor kick. He's a dominating contested ball winner, stoppage player and is a massive threat overhead. It's certainly preferred that everyone can kick, just as it's preferred everyone can win their own ball. There is more to AFL than just competence or otherwise in just one attribute. It's a team game for a reason.

Very True there. Williams is Surronded by Bad Kicks which does not Help Hide that Weakness. Makes it stand out more

They are different types of running backs.
Williams likes to take the dangerous option and take risk a lot more.
Shaw likes that easy classy kick.
Williams is more body on body whereas Shaw likes to be a couple meters off his opponent allowing him to beat him by running.
Williams isn't as classy but he's still a valuable player, He would have been All Australian if he didn't get injured last year at one stage.
