Just got back (had to celebrate) and wanted to start this thread too...

CONGRATULATIONS ADELAIDE!

The game could have gone either way - you guys were great and thankfully earnt the respect of many (nuffies) like I knew you would - just wish you didn't cause me quite as many heart attacks in the process

Called it before the game that your midfield would take it right up to ours and your talented key forwards (including Tippett) would have a big impact (two areas Adelaid are criminally underrated). What I didn't expect was the unadulterated brilliance of Sanderson - spread Tippett and Walker apart to isolate Schoenmakers and remove the Gibson 'third man up' issue, switched the play whever Hawthorn were setting up, left no space for our forwards and then blocked our usual behind the play avenues (letting it go to Sewell and Ellis instead of Suckling/Birchall = behinds), breaking the zone and using the ovrlap perfectly and putting players back quickly to stop our usual run on/burst that wins us matches. Brilliant tactical moves that very nearly won you the game.

With a side and a coach like that - sky's the limit.

Was a great game, we played far better than expected and I'm proud of the boys for putting in 110% and digging deep for four quarters. Looking forward to the coming years. We had moments of good-very good footy this year, not great but very good.

Some umpire decisions were poor, yep. Don't like to harp on about it though. It's like that sometimes and we could have just as easily been on the other end.

Met a few hawthorn supporters tonight and they were respectful, which I appreciated. Hawks deserved to be in the grand final this year.

You guys must be terribly disappointed with the result, and rightly so. I thought Adelaide was wonderful all night and if anything was unlucky not to go through.

I particularly admired the way your boys played attacking, direct footy and were willing to take risks all night. Walker & Tippett both gave us big headaches, jacobs dominated our rucks and your mids probably had the better of it. Most importantly I thought Adelaide was the more desperate side especially in the first half before we got going.

So yeah, commiserations for the loss. It's something we Hawthorn supporters understand all too well from our exit last year vs the Pies. The upside is the motivation will give you next year.

The Crows team really surprised a lot of people tonight and did their club proud I thought. Best of luck for next year guys.




P.S. Poort are shit.

Was a tough loss and not sure how to take this. the last time we lost a final here we did nothing for the next 2 years. But i am confident the likes of Dangerfield and Walker will give us good service for the next 10 years or so.

Thrilling game and your team showed some really big nuts tonight with the execution of your game plan.

When Johncock kicked that goal, I was genuinely happy that the underdog might pull one out but Hawthorn's class (Rioli) shone through in the end, I guess.

There was a 12 point play in the third quarter when Walkers goal was disallowed and no one knows why,it was not holding the ball, it was not a throw and they went straight down the field and scored.

The WORST display of umpiring ive seen for a LOONGGG time, absolutely shocking. If any of those umps get a gig at the GF, i request for a strike, absolutely F*cking woeful. Decisions cost momentum, buddy is a hack on his legit 3rd strike- i live in melb, i've witnessed events/heard rumours that are veritable, absolute joke. Some of the frees in the 3rd qtr were ordinary at best!
It will no doubt be glossed over but was terrible and the repercussions in a prelim final are huge.

Actually felt for your mob, took me back to 2001 prelim vs Ess and last year. Watching your blokes collapse on the turf after the siren made me realise how hard you busted your guts for 4 quarters, sticking to the game with relentless gut running to bust us open through the corridors, which you did really well. Thought we were cooked after Johncock's goal.
It's also a sign that this loss is going to sting and motivate you guys for a fairdinkum tilt next season. I have no doubt.
Very impressed with Sanderson's presser too, you've got a gem there.

I went an expected a Hawks win by 40+ points. I did'nt really care who won.

It was the first time I have seen the crows live this year and I have to admit I was quite impressed. They made the Hawks pay for any mistakes and really won the ball going through the middle.

They also surprised me a bit by what a big side they are. And last but not least Dangerfield is a gun who will be right up there with the best in the league.
