geez arnt some of those wet toast muppets letting themselves down bigtime on the main board, good for a laugh

the clubs been desperate for an out & out gun to help replace the legends that walked out the door & all of a sudden it looks like weve got more than one:D

Congratulations guys for a very worthy winner in Dyson Heppell. I've seen a fair bit of this guy and I honestly can't recall a better first year player (I've been in the game for 30 yrs). I think he's probably favorite for your B & F as well. Amazing stuff.

For mine, you landed the "real" pick 1 for the 2010 draft. I don't see him having a let down next year because he has all the attributes to get even better. He will be a scary proposition once he gets a couple more pre seasons under his belt. It's just great seeing a kid with this much raw talent look so composed, take on mature footballers and beat them.

I'll look forward to seeing him star (hopefully) against the blues. Good luck on Sunday.

To be honest this crossed my mind, is it possible Heppell can do a Pearce and suffer from the 2nd year blues ? but then thought to myself "its Heppell ya ****head"

Great post BTW :thumbsu: thanks and good luck on Friday night.

Congrats to Heppell, in all honesty couldn't split it between he and the Shue, and after watching his first class performance in the Anzac Day match earlier this year I'm not surprised he got the nod.

Fair to say we both have two pretty special players who are going to be awesome to watch for the next decade!

(The whinging and bitching is embarrasing...but it's how much we all love the Shue.)

Good luck for finals, praying you guys belt the Blues! :thumbsu:

This guy is an absolute gun! Unbelieveable 1st year and its scary to think how good he is going to be in 3 or 4 years. He is the best 1st year player I have seen and I hope he plays well on Sunday and you guys beat Carlton.

What I've noticed about Hepp is he has a very nice side step but often gets caught or nearly caught (forcing the handball) because he doesn't yet have the strength in his core to shrug of the would be tacklers. I wouldn't be surprised after the next pre-season that we see Heppell kick even more and be more damaging from the centre forward. 2-3 years time I think that Hepp will be a pure midfielder

And more succesful. ;)

Did Heppell sign a 2 or 3 year contract ?

Need to keep him away from the clutches of GWS.

I want him, Hurley and Zaka signed up until the end of freakin time....

Congrats to Heppell! I wanted to say it on the main board, but the thread was locked, so thought I would on here.

I think either would have been deserving winners, though personally I thought Shuey was better for a number of reasons. As I am sure you all did with Heppell, that is footy. However for whatever reason Heppell won out and good on him. Both will be great players for our clubs and seem like real loyal blokes, so no doubt we will be able to cheer them on for years to come.

Shuey will win more premiership medallions though. :p

yeah he looks like he's been dragged through a hedge backwards; but that's kids these days.....

well done Dyson! worthy winner.

Funny thing is the difference between east/west news article headlines:

Heppell takes out NAB Rising Star award
Heppell wins AFL Rising Star award
Essendon's Heppell wins AFL Rising Star
Heppell wins Rising Star
Dyson Heppell named AFL Rising Star
Heppell rises above the pack to win award

WA:
Shuey doesn't quite fit for Luke in Rising Star
Essendon's Dyson Heppell wins Rising Star ahead of Eagle Luke Shuey
Heppell shades Shuey for rising star nod

Yeah but all the unbiased experts thought Heppell was better and that's all that matters.
