Yeah it’s this job that he’s just got, and the other one that he got after last season ended, that have cost us premierships in seasons before any of those announcements took place .

Those announcements morphed into humans, went back in time in a Delorean and scuppered our hopes and dreams in several seasons across the journey by switching magnets around on the board before big finals, whispering incorrect gameplans into players’ ears while they slept, and putting shorter studs in their boots before games played in slippery conditions. Perhaps. He does have an MBA though so at least he has learned a bit about how businesses run, and large organisations as one of the most important leaders of a football club in the fifth biggest domestic league on the face of the planet in terms of spectatorship per match, so there’s that.

Was he the best credentialed person for the job? That was your initial query about Scott. As though every position in every workplace is filled by the best credentialed person by some unseen set of objective criteria that applies uniformly.

A coach was in that position and was asked to leave it despite having won a flag previously and was replaced by someone with no senior experience aside from a brief fill-in tenure, no senior flags. They decided that he was who they wanted: maybe King was better credentialed. Maybe Skipworth or whoever else applied was. You or I don’t really know, do we.

It made perfect football sense.
