i think he has a point. how exactly to you "accidentally" download 600GB of data across various wireless networks? the skeptic in me is definitely questioning googles motives.

Yeah but this prick wouldn't care selling out your data either to get ALP votes? As Ludlum has said he is overreacting.

not saying i love the guy... just agree with him on this point... and yes he may be on some personal vendetta against google but that doesnt make his point any less right.

You agree that this is the biggest privacy breach ever!!!111!!!

The Communications Minister, Stephen Conroy, has accused Google of launching "the single greatest breach in the history of privacy".

I liked this one the best.
“What would you prefer, a corporate giant who is answerable to no one and motivated solely by profit making the rules on the internet, or a democratically elected government with all the checks and balances in place?”
I'd rather Facebook. At least I have the choice as to what personal information Facebook has on me.

I tell you, Conroy has the look of a man who is about to lose the plot.

Oh no! My hypocrisy machine has exploded, now my house is on fire!

Conroy, if you don't want privacy breaches, then how about abandoning a policy which will interfere in the privacy of one's personal internet usage?

Just a thought.

The Australian Government has more private information on me, and there were no terms and conditions I had to read before I was forced to give them this information.

The very same Google our Government runs to with how many requests for private user data?

And when deep packet sniffing/filtering will compromise the privacy of just about every Australian web user.

Quit with the petulant vendettas. This kind of response, see the EFA and iinet for previous examples, only confirms peoples fears about the intention of this filter and the very real potential for misuse.

Lol looks like Conroy does not want to be found out for being a fraud:

'Put your money where your mouth is,' Conroy told

The Communications Minister, Stephen Conroy, has not referred Google's Wi-Fi data bungle for police investigation despite claiming the company deliberately spied on Australians.
The Australian Federal Police said this morning it was aware of the reports of Google's Street View cars sucking up personal data from home Wi-Fi networks around the country but "has not received a formal referral on this matter".

If the AFP do a cursory inquiry and find no grounds to lay charges, or a case made against Google gets thrown out of court, then how would that make Conroy look?

The problem is he made some outrageous claims, in an attack on Google that was clearly revenge for criticisms he had received and to take heat off the proposed filter.

Unfortunately his claims don't track with the actual reality and he has been found out quick smart.

amazing, when you consider something like this has come to light...

Aussies face 10 year browsing lock-up

Govt wants ISPs to record browsing history

what a bunch of numpties.
It's appalling, isn't it.

"Don't you see that the whole aim of Newspeak is to narrow the range of thought?... Has it ever occurred to your, Winston, that by the year 2050, at the very latest, not a single human being will be alive who could understand such a conversation as we are having now?... The whole climate of thought will be different. In fact, there will be no thought, as we understand it now. Orthodoxy means not thinking—not needing to think. Orthodoxy is unconsciousness."

- George Orwell, 1984

i like to assume everything that is done online isnt personal anyway

if i had something i wanted to take with me to the grave, i wouldnt email it to someone, nor would i even discuss it on the telephone

technology is far to easy to manipulate (as shown by google) and if you want true privacy the less technology you involve the better...

that said i still do my banking online.. i tend to think with those types of things that the bank has a responsibility to ensure your security.. until i get burnt i'll carry on with that assumption

Exactly. For someone with such a big portfolio, he seems to lack the most basic skills to even remotely do a decent job

I hope Gillard gives Conroy's portfolio to Kate Lundy, she makes alot of sense and actually has a clue about ICT.

100% agree and there is definitley some noise being made on the topic. With Julia Gillard being very left, you would assume she wouldn't want a clueless, bigoted, fascist like our mate Stephen Conroy in charge of such important matters.
