It’s not shitting on Cripps to say the worst team in the competition by a mile shouldn’t be recontracting a player who will turn 34 in April at the expense of a player who’s finally showing something that turns 23 on the same day.

Run Brockman, Long, Champion etc through that position and decide if they get another contract. Williams and even Walley might also need a run through there.

If we draft properly there will also be a postion on a HFF for players like Sharp and Cumming as well as Hewett, Harley, Davis and Graham rotating through there.
I'm not sure who you're referring to as the 23 year old.

Brockman is best 23 now. I don't think there is any question around that.

I would like to see more of Long but there's a reason why Mini hasn't played him.

Champion, Williams and Walley are going to be small and raw. We've had games this year where we've literally played the kids and we got beaten badly. Not just on the scoreboard but in the contest. Mini has clearly avoided playing too many kids beyond a certain point this season. I don't see him going back to that well to be honest. If anything, I see us trying to bring more senior players in and allowing these kids time to physically develop.

We've tried Hutchinson, Gross, Dewar and Davis through there as well. None of them have stuck, though all have shown something at AFL level.

Your last comment is where I see us going. Bringing in that Sharp/Cumming type with a view to rotating them through for Harley and Hewett. That gives us a better player in the forward line to work with the likes of Brockman and, if he stays, Ryan. It's why I also see Baker down forward eventually. We have a good number of defenders and are eyeing more off, both in the draft with Duursma, and through trade and free agency, with Starcevich and McVee.

Stop shitting on Cripps. The only thing he's guilty of is being better than the spuds that were supposed to make him redundant. He's slowing down but he's still one of our better and more reliable forwards. Brockman is literally the only small forward guaranteed to be on the list next year that is performing better than Cripps.

Cripps is now completely redundant as a footballer at AFL level.

Welcome to the board. Would you like Matt Owies? You can have him for free.

The player is Chesser.

We can bring senior players in sure but at what cost? Sugar hit for a few extra wins? What are we trying to achieve here?

Out of the four you’ve mentioned, Gross is the only one I see as regular B22 moving forwards, the rest are likely to be fringe at best so I do take your point that blokes haven’t stepped up for that role.

Sharp and Hewett are likely to start on HFFs with a starting midfield of Harley, Graham and Yeo. I’d love to have Cumming in the squad too.

I honestly don’t think we’ll get any trades done other than Davies if we’re lucky.

The rest would be DFAs or geriatric UFAs, of which only Blight and Knobel are players I’d want on the list at this point.

I do agree with you about players like Baker being pushed forward.

with Crippa, i suspect the club thought this year would be his last but Owies has completely shat the bed so the club is probably just giving him the extra year, both on form and in case Owies continues to crap the bed in year 2.

Chesser isn't playing forward. His contract situation is independent of Cripps and even Cole.

We're getting beaten up around the ball. The idea behind bringing senior bodies in is to help the kids. Harley is the #1 mid when he'd be #3 or #4 in a mature midfield. Hewett is playing predominantly midfield where he'd be playing predominantly forward rotating through the midfield in a team with a mature midfield. Bring senior bodies into the middle, kids spill into the forward and defensive lines, less ready kids spill into WAFL.

He isn’t but list spots matter. We have a pipeline of forwards coming through our NGA, I wouldn’t bat an eyelid with we delisted Cripps and Blowies then traded Ryan. Got it covered.

The bigger bodies are fine but who are you talking about bringing in that puts Harley back to #3 or #4?

Cripps could be a floating head in a jar and still get a new deal. He got a boys club extension

Just a couple players, not necessarily organised into realistic or not.

Billy Dowling - MID/FWD (187cm, 2026)
Zane Zakostelsky - KPP/RUCK (196cm, 2026)
Wade Derksen - KPD (197(?)cm, 2025)
Jacob Blight - KPD (196cm, 2025)
Max Knobel - RUCK (206cm, 2025)
Max Heath - RUCK/KPF (204cm, 2025)
Zac Taylor - FWD/MID (180cm, 2025)
Liam Reidy - RUCK (204cm, 2025)
Alex Davies - MID (191cm, 2026)
Judd McVee - DEF (185cm, 2025)
Sam Berry - MID (181cm, 2026)
Will Brodie - MID (190cm, 2026)
Ned Reeves - RUCK (210cm, 2026)
Darcy Wilson - MID (185cm, 2026)

Chesser looks to have locked in a 1 year extension with his recent form, good for him and us.
Davis has already shown he has a future in the wing role, he runs really well and works hard, he also is not afraid of contact.
Agree with Gross.

Of the trades that are most likely this year Davies would be a good get, solid B grade inside mid.
McVee would be a better version of Chesser with his speed and disposal in a wing role.
If we cant get any KPD in a trade Blight might be the best cheap option.
Seriously, L Reidy would be a decent cheap ruck option, better than Knobel and better than BW.

Id say we have to give Chesser multiple years, he will have other clubs interested based off his recent form

Id say Chessers speed and disposal is better than McVees tbh. McVee the better defender, but Chess over McVee on the wing for sure assuming he keeps going like he has been and builds on his game.

With freo not making finals in feel they will take one especially farrow if available

All the more reason to trade for the Port, Suns, Blues or Swans 1st.

Someone may bid on Whan and take out their 1st depending if that slides into the late teens. Looked likely a while back however his stocks have cooled.

And do Freo use their 1st to trade in a player?

Might have gotten an extension because Ryan is on his way out.

I agree. I think the Blues and Dees would be sniffing around a player like Chesser. Looked really good the last few weeks in patches.

The two of us have the most plodderish list going around and anyone with speed and kicking skills would surely be of interest to us, especially an old VIC boy.

Out of curiosity, worst case scenario for you lot he asks to come home... What do you think you'd be wanting in return for him? Bit of a hard one to judge for mine as up until a month ago he seemed a likely delist option with his injury issues.

Cripps enters the final round with a one goal lead over Flyin' Ryan in our leading goalkicker award.

Currently on 23 goals. Will overtake Sumich's 33 in 1997 as the lowest number of goals needed to be leading goalkicker.

If Jack Williams plays next week he's a chance to overtake Waterman into third :straining:
