You still haven't answered my question what else do we get for for pick 2 other than pick 5 thats a net loss for us.

Essendon currently hold picks 4,5,22, 25
More than 22 and less than 6.

We would need more than Essendon have and Essendon need their lower picks for their NGA kics, which is why I think another trading partner is needed.

Hence the third party
I just don't understand why we'd hand over a 2 for a 6 then WE have to try to get another pick ourselves to try and make the 2/6 swap make sense.
Why wouldn't we just keep 2 and try to get the PA/suns pick if that's what we want to do, why even bring the 6 into it?
Not trying to be argumentative, I just don't get it.

I'm wondering this myself. Schubert is a popular name here but I'm wondering if we get another top 10 pick if we go after another mid and leave the KPD for later in the draft.
Schubert is an exciting prospect and the best KP player in this draft.
It really comes down to do we want to draft Schubert as a KPF to use him as a KPD with a top 10 pick needed.
I think we take a prospect later like Ainsworth, Thredgold, Stumpf knowing we have an exciting KPD next year in D Shanahan as an NGA who is going to be an athletic 200cm prospect.
Ainsworth is probably the next best KPD/KP player in the draft after Schubert even though draft gurus don't have him rated yet, he probably is a late 2nd, early 3rd round pick.
Ainsworth is a 200cm versatile KPF/KPD/RUCK who can play across multiple lines, do we need another 200cm prospect when we have D Shanahan coming or do we need an athletic CHB type 197+ like Thredgold who may grow from 194cm currently?
Think this will determine who is on our radar, Ainsworth FB, Thredgold or Stumpf CHB athletic types.

Hence the third party

Pass on that just use pick 1 & 2 ourselves, trade with GC for Ports pick and pick up 7.

Go into the draft with three picks inside the top 10.

Keep a second round pick up our sleeve for some one like Ainsworth or Threadgold.

Chesser and Ryan get us more picks to take into next years draft.

Kids going to be a star at the next level, I would much rather take him at pick 2 than CDT- if we decide to go a tall, that early.

You would imagine tigers or dons take him. I can't see him lasting to the suns pick but it will mean someone else slides

Hopefully we have a choice of him or Cumming at Port pick should we acquire it

Hope you’re right. Just feels like we are losing Ryan and Cripps who were our two best small fwds. The rest are NGA’s and late picks. Quantity doesn’t make up for quality
Agree, but between Brockman, Champion, Newton, Long, Owies on the list and Walley, Williams added this year we will find a couple of decent talents amongst them.
I can see a big turnover in this position to find our best NGA prospects and what we currently have.
I don't expect Long, Owies to go past their current contracts before delisting.
Walley would need to improve rapidly from his 2025 form to see past early an early exit.
I can see why WC are actively chasing Ah Chee as we have a gap for a couple of years and Owies isn't what we thought.

If we could get the pick to draft this kid he would answer a lot of our concerns.

Either we value him as a bonus that slides to the port pick, or we really value him as a essential need for the club. If it s the later then take him at 2.

Do you have us swapping a contracted ryan for saints F2 then trading it for butler ?

We should not be trading contracted players for future picks

I would be much happier trading chesser for butler then going hard for better value from ryan
Pretty much, yep. Maybe Chesser pick gets used instead

I think we have more chance of Cumming sliding to Ports pick than Schubert, so I would have no hesitation using pick 2 on him.

Imaging him and ShaHANDS as our two KPF going forward for the next 15 years.

We still need to bolster the midfield more. Robertson and Sharp aren’t going to give us much of a boost next year. Steele, Neale, Simpkin, Petracca, Davies, Flanders etc. There’s plenty of experienced mids that may be moveable, just a matter of whether they will come to us for the right money and contract length. Or maybe another fringe guy like Dev eg. Hustwaite
Not sure we are going to land a Neale or Steele tho. So Dev, Butler (imagine that’s part of our pitch), the draftees and the natural development of Harley, Hewett et al. Ideally Yeo is back too and it’s starting to a bit more balanced. Unfortunately Rome wasn’t built in a day but I think there are a few moneyball type picks available that put us in a position to achieve what has to be our number one medium term goal, win enough games to sign Harley for the long term.

This.
Leaves us with Schubert or Cumming around that pick 7.
If we take Duursma with one of our picks 1 or 2 then I would take Cumming and get 1 of Ainsworth or Thredgold with a 2nd round pick.
Move all other picks into 2026 not used to trade in players, most likely a couple of 2nd round picks.
AFL priority pick 19 and pre-list NGA's leaves us 19, WC 2nd, Hawks 2nd, Ryan trade, Chesser trade, Hawks 3rd to get trades done.
Starcevich, Ah Chee, McVee, Butler, Robertson, T Young, Tunstill players of differing quality who we could get 4 of and push 2 picks into 2026.
My priorities would be Starcevich(Hawks 3rd), Ah Chee(WC 2nd) and 2 of T Young, Tunstill, Robertson.
Leverage our position if BRI are serious about getting Langford, they need some of our draft capital and we need some of their players, Starcevich, Ah Chee, Tunstill, Robertson for picks 19, WC 2nd round picks.
Midfield looks thin on recruits but unless WC have an ace up their sleeve for a good mid we probably end up with these players.
