I mean after yet another horrible performance, not a single player was dropped, they were all forced outs, were at the start of a rebuild and still are wasting games on guys that shouldn’t be here next year

Harry Edwards just dropped for Clay Hall btw
Maybe wait for the final teams before wetting the bed with the rest

Freeing up fullback for Oscar's punishment, maybe. But that goes against our inclusive and high EQ culture.

Surely, you just have to play Edwards?

His form to start the year hasn't been great.

I know they say talls take longer to develop, but i'm not at bullish on Edwards long term as some people are.

I had him pegged as a spud initially, but he played some good footy last year. Hasn't been great this season, so it's either back to the twos for some confidence, or just let him ride it out. With Gov out, I don't think we've got many options. I'm still in the "not AFL grade camp", but I have seen signs that it's possible.

Brock being promoted is a positive sign

Still holding out hope Bazzo makes it, though his injuries are putting him behind the 8 ball

After that it's starting to hope converting one of Barnett or Shanahan into a key back (or Archer Reid as Phill keeps talking about)

Jamieson isn't even worth discussing anymore

I think Edwards is good enough to be an AFL calibre key defender. but he plays like McGovern or Sam Taylor which is isn't. Simmo touched on it (you know, the guy who coached him for 6 years but somehow had zero impact at all) but he goes for pretty much every mark and gets caught out with the "soft drop".

He's 24 this year but has only played 42 games which is less than Ginbey and Hough who are a few years younger. I would love to see him just string some games together as a dour defender.

I think Oscar is likely out the door.
Shame, because he could have had a cushy career post football in WA, likely working in the media somewhere.
Instead, he will get an extra couple of years playing footy, but will be a pariah in his own state.
He will likely have to move out of WA long term.

Why not just back your body in, and after 4 years just see if you're still be able to play footy?
Back yourself in.

All this talk about "setting yourself up" with a long term contract is just bullcrap. What is the point? Surely you're going to retire when you can't play any more. He would have been looked after long term, and you'd much rather be in your own state at the end of your career.

I think this might be true, but it's absolutely pathetic that a player changing clubs would result in being a pariah.

on coast to coast today he talked about how he feels really comfortable as a KDEF and hopes to find his spot there.
Really hope he does too as we need a couple of players between Barnett/Shanahan/Brock/A Reid to become our next generation KDEF team.
Looking very likely that A Reid might be our ruck going forward, early days but he has some serious talent in there.

ATG, please go read my post again "can play mid from the get go" does not mean "playing full time inside" as you suggest.

If you go and take what I actually said - a player who can play mid in their first year, you'll see that almost everyone on that list played some midfield time in their first year. Instead, we draft half bank flankers.

Drafting half back flankers with midfield potential, or hybrid mid/flankers doesn't seem to be a strategy that has not worked for us, yet here we are having Bo Allan run around in the WAFl when a mid like Sid Draper was sitting there ready to be taken, but we traded down.

I'm perfectly within my right to be annoyed we have another half back flank (that we can't even fit in our team) instead of a genuine mid like Draper because we split that pick for.......drum roll.......Liam Baker a half back flanker, who we have been forced to play in the midfield...

Thanks for playing, OG.

Again, your post has little relevance to the topic at hand an offers nothing of value whatsoever.
Lol DSP is a sassy lil bish.

If we ever get a decent ruck, I would like to see Bailey Williams tried as a key back. I don't think he has what it takes to be a key forward but looks like a defender.

Think WC have tried that in the past but never really progressed anywhere.
BW is a really solid 2nd ruck.

By the end of the year we might have our new ruck project emerge in A Reid.
He just looks to have a really decent ruck craft, super mobile, and without putting too much pressure on him you can see in a couple of years he will be matching that athleticism with L Jackson.
If not we can probably pick up D Cameron OOC in 2026.

He needs to add an athletic string to his bow to make it IMO - that being a ridiculous tank. The judging marks/spoils will come and harder to do so when you're getting flogged in the midfield (we saw Barrass struggle with the same decision making at times when flooded.)

He's just not pacy or even super mentally quick in defending a lead, if an opponent gets space on him he's done. In a better side we can cover that a little more - but for him to actually be good I honestly think he needs to aim for N.Riewoldt running power - put his all into it. You can make up for less pace if you're able to sprint up the ground, impact a contest in the air and then sprint back and exasperate a key forward who thought they were in the clear. Also gives you more spring in the legs when you need it.

Defenders like Gov/Andrews/Moore are high-impact whenever they get near it, Harry is medium impact at best, think the way he makes up for that is being able to get to 10 more contests a game than those guys and just grind, grind, grind.

Bo Allan was sick a few weeks ago and lost something like 6-10kgs from memory. Is now regaining conditioning.

Before that was tracking for a spot in the round 1 team.
He has played in the WAFL practice matches for the last 2 weeks, I believe. Did Tom Gross only just return as well from a injury. He didn't play in any of the practice games, because of injury can't remember if it was a leg. He has played
