🙋🏻‍♂️in the camp of split pick 1 if we have 1&2. Best mid and another mid and 1/2 talls to go with our NGA/FS

Can also see the club taking CDT and a mid with picks 1&2. We love our rucks out west.

The problem I see with drafting a high level talented tall, particularly if they are a ruck from interstate is the time of development. I'm not sure they will be willing to go through 5 years of development in WA before being ready to play as a ruck.

It makes it very difficult and how much would teams be willing to pay to get to that pick if duff-tytler is the concensus number 1 at the end of the year.

Very much a GWS Cadman situation whereby outside of him the players they wanted to draft just wouldn't have made it to their pick. He is certainly athletic and quite skilled but pick 1 for a ruck/forward is a big, big risk.

It's mitigated a bit if Allen leaves but Archer Reid is still taller, has at least the same level of footy IQ and athleticism. (only issue is he's a terrible shot on goal)

I don't know much but from what I've seen i'm not overly enthused on CDT or Duursma (utility) at all. There's really only been 2 utilities in the past 25 years who have really backed up their high end pick cost. Hodge and Goddard and even Goddard was only truly amongst the games absolute elite for about 3 years.

I like Rodriguez, Grlj, Lindsay, Sharp, Whan (can't get him) and Curtin.

If Reid is moved back and Allen leaves then i'd be very open to splitting pick 1 to get 3 of Lindsay, Grlj, Sharp & Rodriguez. Curtin may even be there at the Hawks first round pick mark.

Start developing Reid as a KPD with time in the ruck as well. He sure has the talent and footy smarts to be elite in either position.

So can I get some clarity on the Oscar Allen situation as it seems like people here and in the media are talking as if he's already left the club and it's a certainty. Can someone please provide evidence for these assertions?

Probably not.
For what it's worth, I'm in the don't mind either way club.

If only we could hit the ignore button for topics.
Then I could ignore all conversations relating to using #1 pick to draft a ruck

Yeah but if he is the best player in pool, why not?

I don’t know anything about what he is like, or who he plays like but just looking at the height, if he ends up like Marshall, then it’s a win.

Yes we need mids but then we have to admit to ourselves that Reid, gross, hewett, Hough, perhaps Allen, grego and hall are not going to form a good midfield and make appropriate positional and list changes.

If listening to gettable and their determination it’s a weak draft, this means that best midfielders are effectively those like tsatas, Windsor and Langford types. Rather have a Marshall type.

This is not my evaluation of the draft, as I have no idea. Others can comment on quality. But there is no Lalor or O’Sullivan types in this draft apparently.

1. He talked to Mitchell. Therefore he is open to leaving.
2. Hawks talked to him, meaning they are interested in making an offer. Probably bigger than the Eagles offer.
3. Hawks need a KPF given they believe they are in the flag window. Lewis is good but his body breaks down all the time. The only other guy readily available is Uges. He's a better player than Oscar, but he brings dig'ead factor.
4. Eagles are better off with pick 2 or 3, or whatever it will be.

This is circumstantial evidence, but evidence nether the less. All the planets align. It sounds like you're offended about it?

Listening to the gettable blokes the other day and Twomey sounded pretty flat when talking about the draft crop
Early days, but it doesn't look great. That's why we should have taken #3 to the draft last year. But our bed is made. We have to pick the best prospects available. We might end up with a flanker and a dud with 2x top 5 picks. That's why you don't give up #3 for a B-grader. You need a spread of top 5 picks to play the averages.

Contract extensions

Kelly: +2 years (end 2027)
Hutchinson: +3 years (end 2029)
Dewar: +3 years (end 2028)

Particularly pleased about Hutch, hopefully more to follow.

Firstly i'm not offended I don't care either way if he stays or goes. I was more just perplexed by the confidence people were talking with about him leaving as if the contract had been signed and he'd all but left. I was just wondering how people were so confident is all. It just seems to be a shift in the past week regarding his contract status and maybe I had missed some kind of new update on the situation hence asking for clarification? It reminded me of supporters of certain victorian clubs in relation to Harley.

Anyways how are we getting pick 2 or 3? I understand that band 1 compo might net us that but the hawks screwed us on Barrass I see no reason why they wouldn't try and screw us again on Allen or is that an impossibility given he's already on a band 1 contract with us?

Sorry if this has been covered in this thread.

Experienced midfielder Tim Kelly, exciting wingman Tyrell Dewar and athletic utility Jack Hutchinson have penned multi-year deals with Waalitj Marawar.

Kelly is currently playing his sixth season in the blue and gold, with the 2023 John Worsfold medallist signing on for two more years to remain with the Club until at least the end of 2027.
Up next sheed signs a 5 year contract extension.

One year to long on each of those deals, Kelly is almost done, hutch has talent but we haven’t got a permanent position for him and dewar isn’t best 23 at this point in time.
It was more in reference to Kelly. We should have dumped him after his contract expired this year he offers nothing. He's been pushed out of the midfield by 2nd year players and a guy we got from Richmond for a packet of crisps.

Tim Kelly until end of 2027? Ugh.

You cannot turf out all the senior players at once, I understand, but surely end of next year was fine as we look to phase him out and bring in the youngsters. Not like any other AFL club is looking to poach him.

Think I’d have knocked a year off all three of those, tbh
Happy to see Hutch is happy to be here at least. Dewar is still in and out of the team. TK needs to start kicking them regularly to justify his place in the team.
These look like the type of deals being dealt out under Nizzy. Think we have to be more conservative unless the player has interest from other teams.

Yeah, agreed. 1 for Kelly, 2 each for Dewar and Hutchinson makes a lot more sense to me.

Dewar is already borderline and got 3 years? C'mon.

"borderline" brother he's in his 3rd year and hes a cat b rookie, she's shown plenty of development
