SSP deadline has come and gone with no additional signing by us or any confirmation that Sheed was even placed on the inactive list

So as it stands we have a full list of 44 (37 main, 5 rookie, 2 cat-b) with the option of opening up a spot for the MSD by either putting Sheed on the inactive list or him officially retiring

Given the anticipated squeeze for list spots at the end of the year it is possible that we may not make a selection in this year’s MSD but that will depend on the quality of the candidates

I think had Henderson not been poached we would have taken him IMO

Here's hoping we can grab another Maric/Hutchinson in the MSD

Toby Whan Freo NGA prospect this kid I think will be the surprise packet from WA this year
I think he could end up a top ten pick.

I would love us to bid on him and if Freo dont pony up we get him
Has amazing left foot and is a endurance beast

Speaking to Matt Rodgers with Toby and Fred Souths have the best two mid's in colts
Really excited to watch colts this year both clubs nga boys, and just the amount of good WA talent
that is second to third round draft talent this year makes it exciting WA should win the championship
if coached right

If Toby Whan is a top 10 pick and Freo are keen to draft him, it makes it even harder for them to put together a trade package for Warner

Mate his preseason and running capacity has people very excited.
Will end up one of best kicks in the AFL at worst
Running and training well at South Fremantle is one thing, being in the top 10 under 18s in the country is a bit different

Following on from your analysis of leaving a list spot open unless somebody makes it hard for WC not to take them in MSD.
I believe WC list management are in this space as well.
Looking at 2026 draftees that are elite mids, there looks to be a few FS/NGA/Academy prospects at this early stage and not a draft blessed with mids, long way to go to 2026 but having a much wider look with WC NGA's of maybe 2-3 draftable that year?
I would be inclined to pony up and spend our resources and draft capital on Warner's x 2, best mid, best KDEF and 2 NGA/FS prospects. If that means we need to use early 2026 draft capital and a chunk of it to put the best asset midfielder from the draft we can afford I would be ok with that.
C Warner will add significantly to our midfield and his brother is at worst a depth player and better than Chesser imo.
I still feel we are 2 high quality mids away from elite in that area, Chad being 1 and a draftee being another!
Better on the list competing for spots than not before 2027 Tassie draft!!
KDEF and Rucks are our biggest weakness outside of this and can be solved by trade and draft, draft Curtin as an example and trade for KDEF if club feels we are short in this area but it seems 2025 will determine a lot.
H Edwards, Brock, Barnett, Shanahan, seem to be the options for key defensive roles and Maric as a 3rd tall, hopefully a couple take the role as their own and make the next Gov/Barrass combo!
If none of the above take steps in the right direction J Blight(Rich), Busslinger(WB) would be high on the target list to sure up our KDEF long term.
The bl..dy rucks are a big problem, I think WC have the backup ruck/fwd roles and players waiting in the wings to develop and be long term solutions for 2nd ruck roles in JW and Archer, Barnett might make a KDEF/Ruck option if we are in need.
Flynn and BW are not the answer long term and if WC are serious about finals in around 2028 we need a ready made ruck who is big enough to tap and compete very soon for the next 5+ years minimum(24-25yo & 204cm+) this coming trade period or next imo.
I feel sorry for BW as he has fought his heart out for the club during tough times and done a great job, but he just isn't a number 1 ruck. I would be happy to keep him on the list as a 2nd ruck option as he rarely gets injured and tries his heart out but I would be more than happy for him to explore his options if another club wanted him and got a decent deal and helped WC get some decent draft capital.
Flynn on the other hand is made of paper I feel and unless his season is something outstanding he looks like he will need to make way for the next number 1 ruck, if BW stays Flynn gets shifted sideways as AFLW ruck coach and if BW goes Flynn can still be AFLW ruck coach and be 2nd ruck when needed.
Now for the search L Reidy(Fre), L McAndrew(Ade)?
Sorry for the long post, list management out!

When our midfield is settled with Reid,Warner Hewett, Gross and more I think you’ll find a key ruckman is a useful appendage not the be all and end all . Nankervis is a prime example . Big? Tick! Tough? Tick! Hard worker? Tick! A “ reasonable amount” of talent ? Tick! A cog in an all round team!

totally agree with your Nankervis example.
I would be happy with someone of his quality and talent, this is where I would put someone like L Reidy who is OOC this year, not getting a game because of Darcy and Jackson and more than capable of being number 1 ruck, he has towelled up Flynn and would in a 1 on 1 imo.
L McAndrew who has been training with Adelaide who was all over ROB in the intra club a few days ago would be a more speculative pick, but he may have a decent start to the SANFL season and worth a MSD.

Going from years of Cox then Naitanui to pining after Freo's third choice ruck is a pretty humbling experience.
yes, WC tried hard to get T English but that didn't come off.
Unless there is someone out there of better quality Reidy looks like the most ready prospect out there?
