You responded to my comment and I wasn't speaking about end of next year. If he doesn't extend this year the Vic clubs will be asking the question this year, and this year if he does go we're getting godfather offers.
What is your definition of a godfather offer? Is that really your idea of how the process works that the other clubs first move would be to ring us and throw draft picks at us and hope they are the highest bidder and that Reid agrees to go there?

The first move is to get the player to nominate them so they can have a closed auction where they are the only bidder and it doesn't matter if what they are offering us is anywhere near what the the highest bid would be.

Bring on Trump to negotiate for us. ;)

3 first rounders and/or a player for mine would be in the godfather territory, two of those three would be top 10 minimum.
I'm not really concerned that Reid would nominate a single team if he is hellbent on returning home end of this year, if it gets into end of his contract then I'll be more concerned. Clubs still need to come up with a suitable offer for the Eagles, they are not going to run the risk of him getting to the PSD. Only Richmond would be the winner in that situation.

Frankly I think he'll extend. I don't have any concerns that come the 2026 season if he is an Eagle he will be ooc.

Too much bed wetting based on Vic based media frothing at the next "exclusive" Reid development.

I'd suggest Hird is pushing Essendon's agenda as he 100% knows that Essendon have offered a mega contract to Harley. Throwing out the bounty of picks WC would receive is an attempt to get WC and its fans excited about the draft. This year is Essendon's only chance to get Harley. Otherwise, he will choose a perennial challenger next year.

I think we get Chad in the off season and Harley re-signs.

Yeah see how he goes this year. Some have him at an early number 1 while others say top 5 so right around where our pick will most likely be.

I liked his game on GF in the futures game especially when he went into the midfield 2nd half.

Another Gippsland boy so he would have plenty of mates over here already.

Lots of options and we might get lucky with.
We should trade Oscar to whichever team has the No1 draft Pick and then use it get Willem. That way we can use our first pick for Curtin and/or Fred.

Oscars a free agent so can only get band 1 compo. Finish with the spoon and walk Oscar it’s pick 1 and 2. If you want a positive spin in what would be a horrible season

Every Vic media show is going to use and abuse Harley like the West has. "See which team Harley is linked to tonight on VICbias tv show" All the vic club supporters tune in hoping some nuff mentions their club in some made up scenario to get them excited. Viewer numbers go up, rinse and repeat.
I do love the irony of them carrying on about the west australian media driving him out while doing more or less the same thing, self awareness is not their strong suit

Can you expect anything less from Vic media? Garry Lyon's talked about how he didn't realise how good Barrass was because he doesn't watch West Coast. Gerard talked last year about how he wouldn't watch us either.

The best part of 360 is when Simmo and Horse are on because they actually bring insight and value, they have experienced footy outside and inside of Victoria.

Sloane actually gave good insight based on his experience being drafted and playing outside Victoria, he added value to the talking point.

Then you've got people like Hird who works based off the vibes which he's hearing from within the Victorian media bubble, and they all reiterate the same old talking points without any real knowledge or anything new being brought to the table.

Hypocrisy of the highest order really, because they can't bare the thought that a talented [country] Victorian kid is playing for a non-vic side, much less that he might be enjoying being there despite the noise.

The melts if he re-signs will be beautiful to behold.

I've always been of the mind he'll sign the short term extension like Juddy did then anything after that is fair game. You gotta at least give the team that drafted you a chance to do something. Netting Warner but losing Reid along the way might soften the blow a little.

We're cooked if the Reid camp comes out and says they're putting off contract talks since we know from the Duffield interview yesterday with Gavin Bell that they are currently in contract talks.

If Harley signs the extension then probably 10000% chance Duursma's an AFLW Eagle next year even though Carlton will squeeze our nuts to get her.

It’s crazy how obsessed the Vic media are. Player movement creates clicks and when now 8 teams + the Eagles + Swans now think they are a chance it’s not going to stop. Imagine this time next year if he is still with the Eagles and not signed on….
How long have you guys been discussing Chad Warner?

The media is simply a reflection of footy nuffies on social media.

Fans of every club talk about potential trade targets years in advance these days.

Talk of 2 ye contract for Warner to get him thru to free agency.
Pro for us is it would save significant draft capital.
Con is that if Harley staying is heavily driven by Warner coming, then we might lose him
FWIW I hope we get Warner this yr

If Warner signs through until free agency, it is a lot more likely he joins Fremantle in two years or just stays at Sydney forever imo

The latest offer of $1.3M a season for 2 years is Sydney's last throw at the stumps to keep Warner imo.

WC are probably only looking to draft 2-3 more elite mids through the draft and an elite KDEF player to fill out their list.
With how young the list is they need the best available talent in the 22-26yo bracket to complement the talent already on he list and fill the list profile gaps.

Warner is the best of those available and he wants to come home, the club is right in the window with draft capital to make it happen and has the salary cap to make it happen, you do the deal with out being outrageous, front end it to get him over the line.
I agree with you, he is a list need and a top priority.

Will WC have a crack at Bobby Hill? Possibly the most underpaid player in the AFL.... not sure if he wants to come home but I would be surprised if we didn't at least offer him something to drive up his value.

My gut feel is that there is an aspect to Harley's personality that likes to prove people wrong.

I don't think he is the type to cave to media pressure and go along with the narrative.

It's why I think he participated in those videos taking the mickey out of the VIC media on socials.

It's also why I feel like he will get a sense of value and belonging being part of the new chapter at WC, but this feeling will be linked to our level of competitiveness in games and buy in to Mini's game plan, along with wins of course.

Harley's contract is one of the biggest click bait topics for Victorians as they all dream he will one day play for their team - this is why it is a constant talking point at this time of the year there are f*ck all games to analyse and the media need to sell advertising space.

He'll re-sign for 2 years on good coin this year. The sort of coin that will buy him a house in WA, but an apartment in Melbourne. Have to remember that the Victorian Govt dug themselves into such a deficit it will be a generation of high land taxes paying it off.

He's not homesick, he's lovesick and he now has a dog so that should tie him over for a while.

If a few of the young guys like Hewett start stepping up around him, we should be good.
