There’s lots of players we’d want but doesn’t mean they’re gettable. Think you’re sincerely underestimating what they would cost in draft capital. Ward is a pick 7 who is just starting to hit his stride. Played 8 games this year and is avg 20disposals. Hawks aren’t trading him for a second rounder likely to be in the 30’s. Being out of contract means nothing unless they are a free agent. Look what we paid for an out of contract Baker.
They haven’t re-signed Worpal yet. He’s probably more gettable than Ward.
Your not getting Flanders for a late first either. He’s costing at least a top 10pick imo maybe more.
I don’t mind the idea but I think your expectations on value are way unders.
Then add a bit on the offer.

Community notes: Oscar Allen has not in fact made any claim about what offers he does or does not have.
The stalker is back. Ready to go and hide behind the Moderators skirts as always when people say anything back to him.

Why don't you state an actual position rather than roam around the boards stalking and annoying people and derailing threads as a form of therapy for your obvious and severe personality disorder?

If you think it is plausible that Hawthorn and Brisbane are going to offer him a big enough contract to Trigger Band 1 then say so.

Alternative proposal: Why don’t you try to argue a position without resorting to flat out making stuff up?

Then I’ll stop pointing out when you’re flat out making stuff up.

Its the easiest hole to fix in a way.. We need 1 man to fix that issue. We need 5 to fix a midfield one. We got the money to spend and notoriously ruckmen are easier to get from other clubs then any other spot. Give Moyle big money and he can decide.

Apart from Moyle, id be tempted to overoffer for Draper and Cameron.
Not Draper, Achilles Heels make me nervous after the Nic Nat's. Cameron absolutely... find out how much he wants... worst case scenario he says no.

Some rucks mentioned that could be on the rucks merry go round.

Ramsden (Hawks) 3rd on their depth chart for rucks.

Henry Smith (Brissy) not sure if he is a ruck or Fwd/Ruck

Others

Reeves - (Hawks) Good tap ruckman but not the crash and bash rucks that currently do well. OOC 2026 but should still come cheap.

Soldo- Not sure of his hit outs but his game stats look very average for state league. Not sure his wife would move further away from Vic.

Moyle - Just don’t think he leaves, had clubs chasing last year but stayed on.

Ladhams- OOC but don’t think he’s an upgrade on Flynn anyway.

VFL-
Crossley stats say he competed very well against Moyle last game who is an AFL ready ruck not playing. Fitness the issue and running contest to contest.
Given Crossley's HO, tackle and clearance stats, and reasonable disposal stats, I don't think he has trouble getting from contest to contest in the VFL AFL would be tougher and faster though.
Keogh- Can find the ball and Hit out numbers are good. Fitness is a big reason for his improvement. 200cm so is he undersized for AFL?

I get all that, what I'm doubting is that there's a club out there willing to pay enough to trigger Band 1.
The reports are that we've already tabled a reasonable offer to him. The talk is that he wants more - whether it's dollars or years, it's reasonable to expect that if the other offers are enough to turn his back on ours it's got to be band one.

And any offer would need to be lucrative enough for he and his family to consider relocating from Perth. He is a Perth lad not an east coast relocated teen.
I expect the offer from both Lions and Hawks is worthwhile and he will leave at the end of the year. If not we get a good KPP on a team friendly contract. Win win.

If we had taken Chesser with pick #78 would anyone care if he got the chop? Shown nothing and is injury prone.
Hasn’t had a decent run at it. Played on the gimp wing. Went as a late first rounder for a reason as opposed to pick #78.

He should get another opportunity before others as there’s plenty to cull. Would like to see a full season with him under Mini.

Josh Sinn has only really cracked into the port line up this year and was who Port took in the pick swap with West Coast

If his contract triggers Band 1 compo, then our compo pick will be after our first round pick. If we win the spoon that’ll make it pick 2. If we somehow go on a massive tear in the next few months and win a flag, it’ll be pick 19. That’s how the system works.

There’s no situation where the AFL says “well he’s not quite worth pick 2, you can have pick 10”.
Don't put it past them. Eddie will go on a rant and tweedle dee and tweedle dum will quickly change the 'formula'

Isn't there a chance Bo Allan takes his spot next week? Or if Hough goes back, he might also be squeezed out?
yes but they aren't, B Allan will be a good long term prospect on a wing or HB/MID in the Yeo style but he is a long way from taking a spot, albeit he may get a decent run when he deserves it.
Hough is being used in the midfield because we don't have many other options in a mature body mid, Kelly is done, Yeo injured.
If we trade in a mature mid then there will be a squeeze on Coles spot, he is a 2 or 3 year contract player and should be signed up, we wouldn't be on big $.
I would be playing him in front of Owies anyday.

Yes, because he wouldn’t be considering leaving if he didn’t get good offers. The fact we’ve tabled him a deal and he views it as no where near good enough, means he has bigger offers, Tom Morris who whether you guys like or not - is the best news breaker in the sport and has said repeatedly if the season ended today Oscar would be off to Brisbane.

Brisbane aren’t going to risk us matching a bid, they’ll make sure it’s band 1 to avoid having to give up assets for him.
It’d be much more palatable seeing him in a Lions jumper than a Hawks, FWIW.

This. Chesser will be an available after this week. We should be prioritising chesser over other guys for the back end of this year just as a way to check and see if he can thrive in a new system with a new coach.

He’s a big frame who has speed and a penetrating kick. He should thrive in mini’s system. If we’re considering whether to offer him a deal or not, we need to be sure to atleast give him a last look and a fair shake in a role other than gimp wing.

I’d take Chesser over both Cole and Duggan down back. Has the pace and skills to make it there imo.

Have him working in tandem with Maric as our distributers. His defending would obviously be a liability but I feel like it can’t be worse than what we have currently and he’d at least offer more the other way

I think people need to temper expectations on the caliber of player we’re likely to be able to attract to the club. More than likely we’ll finish last with maybe only 2 or 3 wins to our name so we aren’t screaming destination club right now

Over the last four years (2021 onwards) these are the players we’ve been able to recruit:

Sam Petrevski-Seton - wanted to come home and was traded for pick 52 in 2021. Delisted in 2023
Jayden Hunt - signed as a FA in 2022 seeking more game time and a better contract than Melbourne were offering. Is out of contract this year and may or may not be renewed
• Matt Flynn - signed as a FA in 2023 seeking more game time and a better contract than GWS were offering. A 50/50 chance to be offered a contract at the end of next year when this deal expires
• Tyler Brockman - wanted to come home and was traded for picks 44 and 63 in 2023. Contract expires next year
Jack Graham - signed as a FA in 2024 despite Richmond offering a similar 4 year deal and Jack having no ties to WA
Liam Baker - wanted to come home and was controversially traded for pick 14 in 2024 on a 5 year deal
• Matt Owies - steak knives in the pick 3 trade last year for a better contract than Carlton were willing or able to offer

In that same time frame, we’ve unsuccessfully pursued-
• Tim English (FA)
Chad Warner
Deven Robertson
• Lloyd Meek
• Nick Bryan
• Jordan Sweet
• James Peatling

There’s probably more but those are the ones I can think of

The only real player of genuine quality we’ve secured was Liam Baker - a WCE supporter growing up who wanted to come home and only committed when his former assistant coach was appointed as senior coach. He cost us a lucrative 5 year deal and pick 14

Other than that it’s been a couple of low profile players returning to WA and some free agents plus Owies (admittedly with no WA connections) who were offered better contracts to cross over to WA. With the exception of Graham, their former clubs weren’t devastated at their departure

We’re a hard sell at the moment so our best chance is attracting fringe players wanting more opportunity- the type of players that can help fill a role/carry the load for 2-3 years whilst our youngsters develop. They’ll help lift our floor but do little to raise our ceiling

The big names likely choose somewhere else - and would demand trade capital we’re arguably better taking to the draft

Agree he has a lot of traits that you look for in a rebounding half back.

Good point.

A few in here throw around names as if we have a chance of bringing quality guys in the door in our current state.

First and foremost we need to dig ourselves out of this mess by acquiring talent through the draft, and developing the talent on our list.

I think we might be doing that thing (again) where we overrate our players who are unavailable. Absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that

Good luck to Chesser though, he would have to be the player I am cheering for the most to get himself off the delist pile. 100% Give him all the chances we can this season
