Assuming we have pick 1 and Oscar leaves I’d listen to all offers if a club become enamoured with CDT. Richmond and Essendon for example might be in a postion to swap their 1R picks for pick 1 and Hawks 1R. Big step off in talent after pick 10 in the open pool this year.

If Cummings’ mail on Cameron is correct I’d look at a player swap rather than a pick, McCrae has said he wants players, not picks in the past.

The have a large contingent of NgA and F/S picks this year, no first round pick and a list squeeze.

I think they’d want a pick to help them with points.

Was playing local footy as of last year for Lorne in the Colac & District League. It isn't the highest rated local league out there, so I'm tipping clubs were reluctant to take him with no exposed form at a higher level, hence why he has stepped up and played VFL footy this year.
Did play a couple of VFL games for the Swans in 2024. Not sure if he got injured or was just to fill in ect

we have drafted enough mids over the last few years that we shouldn’t necessarily keep drafting them just on the basis of position.

Harley, Hewett, Gross have all looked good at AFL level.
Hall, Allan, grego, Hutchinson could all make it there.
There's a huge difference between "make it" and "elite midfielder". You can't compete with a midfield full of guys who just "made it". You can have a couple of guys who are complimentary, or still learning their craft. But you can't have a midfield made up of players who are just good enough to play midfield.

It'll be picks this year. We have possibly 2-3 top 30 FS/NGA players we'll need picks for in the draft.

Very valid although given what’s coming up with the compromised drafts I’d be very happy going into points deficit if I was any club provided it was managed well enough to not miss out on future NGAs/FA by exceeding the debt limit.

Picks works for us fine. This draft is not deep, so they’re not very valuable to us, but they still hold points for colkingwood.

What would you put it at?

I’d say Hawks 2nd and our 3rd for Cameron and pies 3rd.

well ****, we're about to split our first pick and then pay overs because "we made a commitment to them" aren't we?
Christ...

Why does splitting whatever compo we get for Oscar for a 30 year old that doesn't help us five years into the future feel completely on brand for this current regime

We don’t have our 3rd - it was traded to Brisbane in last years draft for the pick we used on Grego

I'd put it at Hawks 1st.

People will melt but look at Baker and Barrass trades.

Cameron is a gun but i only want him a minimal trade cost - which isnt happening. He isnt even out of contract this year. We are going to have to give way too much for him.

I still don't understand why the Pies would let Cameron go.

  • He's under contract
  • they literally have no other AFL level ruck on their list
  • Cox, their backup is 34 and looking at retirement
  • they are in the premiership window, and won't just give up their only ruck

So please, anyone tell me why they do it?

Why did Port trade Houston for unders with a long term contract?

He’s been playing for less the he’s worth for a long time. They may not be able to afford him or pay him what he’s worth in his new contract. Even more so as they are already linked to Ben King as a FA.

I’d say we would be offering ridiculous money to get him ti even turn his head. If he has helped them win 2 premierships.

Sports List management wise they wouldn’t let him go but the way AFL list management works is a different story

Because they got a massive haul back and salary cap relief?

You want to overpay for Cameron given where we are?

Port Adelaide

Receives: Jack Lukosius, Joe Richards, Rory Atkins, picks 13, 29, 36 and 50
Gives up: Dan Houston, picks 39 and 58, 2025 first-round pick

Pick 13 (moved out to 16) they ended up trading to us and pick 50 (ended up ick 46) so they could take Berry, we took Allan and Gross with those picks.

They used their other picks for Whitlock (not the North one) and Moraes who has looked good.

Where did I say I wanted to over pay? Don’t even know what the cost is.

Port didn’t need cap relief. They took on Atkins contract for the Suns to get cap relief

Not sure that’s a massive haul for a Player of Houston quality and the player he is in the modern day footy.
