If it is "plantaris" like was said in presser, and provided it fully ruptured, he will play in a month. When ruptured it's done, and the Achilles/calf has no issue returning to normal function quite quickly. It's a useless muscle, and only problematic when partially strained as it causes pain, then it's 8weeks

Plantar fasiitis is the foot pain that I've had quite a few times .

Oscars injury is the Plantaris muscle which runs from the back of the knee to the heel ....they're not the same but neither is needed so in short Oscar should be fine .

Re. Flynn

I know he's 27 or whatever, but he hasn't played a heap of AFL due to injuries, with 2023-24 seasons basically written off. He's played less than 50 games (47) & got his first game in 2021 after recovering from an ACL.

I don't think he's the final product.

So how much growth does he have left? He's honestly pretty good around the ground - it's the physicality in the ruck contest & tap-work that's not working for him.

Would Ivan Soldo be an upgrade on our current ruck stocks? He turns 30 early next season which makes him almost a full year younger than Cameron. I suspect he’d come cheap given he’s now seemingly fallen to third choice at Port behind Sweet and Visentini. And Perth might be more attractive than Adelaide for his flight-attendant partner.

He could be a cheaper (than Cameron) alternative stop-gap option for a couple of years while we allow Reid to develop as a ruck.
I would be asking Rowen marshal how much he wants for 4yrs deal. Front end it hard.

I think if this is what happens, that Archer is our next young ruck in 3-4 years and Cameron is gettable for 3 years and our 2nd round pick, that's a good play for a very good ruck and set up A Reid for a good development under a quality ruck.
That would mean we are 1 ruck too many, surplus too requirements and that would be Flynn imo, he is contracted for another year but also ruck coach for the AFLW, don't know the pay or setup but we could rookie him and pay him for his coaching role to make his payment amount work.
Keep BW as a 2nd ruck/fwd, JW is a decent cover as a 2nd ruck/fwd and Cameron and Archer.
What know one is asking is, does archer doesn't want to be ruck. He will have 17 clubs chasing him as key position player given his mobility and footy smarts. Archer will decide his future, and he might not want to play full time ruck.

Well aware plantaris and planata fascia are different. Plantaris is a useless muscle that when fully ruptured doesnt cause too much time off.

Only four months younger than Cameron and also contracted for next year (and the year after, for that matter) so would also need to be a generous trade.

Not in favour of trading in Cameron. It will cost significantly both in terms of draft capital and the contract we would have to offer him to entice him. And players form and ability to compete can go off a cliff very quickly once they are over 30. Plus the increased injury risk. I know we are desperate for a ruckman but we need to wait for a better opportunity than this.

There are surely adequate rucks in state league who can come in and at least stop opposition ruck from dominating. They would be free in terms of trade/draft capital

We say that every year. It doesn’t happen. When you bring in the mature age state guys you end up with Brooksby (0 games) or Strnadica (2 games, left before the end of the year).

What about vfl....

We'd end up having to give up what we got for barrass.
Id rather just take our medicine with the Ruck situation

What about vfl....

Crossley’s the best ruck in the VFL. The Bulldogs looked at him over summer and passed, despite having no real backup for English. Essendon were linked to him in the mid-season draft and passed.

If you can name one guy that’s come in from the VFL, or any state league, as a mature-ager and competed without needing several years in the AFL system first, I’ll be surprised.

Flynn needs to spend a lot of time in the gym. It’s sad to watch Patrick Cripps moving him around like a cheap Ikea bedside table. Surely he can get stronger?!?

I’m far from a flynn fan but cripps does it a bit to main rucks. Umps do tend to penalise rucks when they effortlessly outmanoeuvre these smaller makeshift rucks. Darling in in forward 50 rucks was similar that he usued to go really well against main rucks but he used to get away alot with that was so close to being push in the back and would be if it was performed by an actual ruck.

Having a quick looks Tk’s stats, he’s oy going marginally better than Gaff in his last season. Albeit Gaff only played 5 games and a couple as sub. Point still stands that its infuriating that they rewarded him with two years. TK has been mid/hff but even as a wingmen Gaff had more influence in his second last season than Tk has. Not advocating for Gaff as he was physically cooked but at the end of the day Gaffs effort till the end cannot be questioned. Tk’s sadly is playing like a bloke thats checked out.

Just draft CDT and develop our next ruck. Better than trading 1st round picks for a 30+ year old sugar hit.
Our complete lack of competitiveness in the ruck is our single biggest issue impacting on our ability to a) be competitive and b) win more than what we currently are.

It's about first possession. We are the worst team in the comp for getting first possession from a ruck contest and last for first possession differential at minus 13.1. For context 17th is Giants at minus 4.

When we do get first possession we are actually ok at turning that first possession into a clearance, we're just under AFL average.

It's purely about the fact that our oppo midfield get firs hands on the ball 13 times more than us every game. Our inability to get first possession is wreaking havoc with our field position, which impact our time in forward half, stops us getting our forward half intercepts - which is how Mini has said he wants us to play.

We don't need to be AFL ranked 1 for first possession, or clearances, but we just can't be last with a huge gap to second last if we want to win more than 2-3 games for the next god knows how long.

Getting a competitive ruckman is our number 1 list need. We're simply unable to get our game going with the kinds of numbers we are putting up in the ruck right now.

Livingstone won't help solve this issue, and neither would drafting CDT. We need to bring in a mature ready to go ruckman, which means being willing to give up draft collateral to do it.

Sure, that’s why Clark Keating and Jamie Charman were regularly All-Australian candidates while they were rucking to Voss/Black/Aker/Lappin.
Clark Keating was a great ruck. Just injured most of the time. There's a reason why he was called a September specialist, and that's because that's the only time he got himself fit to get on the park.

Two's form guide:

  • Deven Robertson was huge with 36 disposals, eight clearances and nine tackles.
  • Ruck Marc Pittonet dominated with 20 disposals, 41 hitouts and 10 clearances.
  • Elijah Tsatas racked up another 30 touches along with eight clearances
  • Ben Hobbs had 19 disposals, six tackles and six clearances.
  • Liam Reidy again dominated in the ruck with 39 hitouts, 16 disposals and a goal.
  • Jhye Clark were instrumental in Geelong's two-point victory over reigning premier Werribee. Clark was equally as prolific, gathering 26 disposals, four marks, eight tackles and five clearances in a dominant display.
  • Ned Reeves (15 disposals, 43 hitouts, five marks).
  • Will Phillips (26 disposals, 12 tackles, six clearances) dominated through the midfield
  • Young defender Jedd Busslinger (27 disposals, eight marks) was good again as he continues to push his case for another chance at the top level
