Its already been mentioned but Brisbane would love us to bid on Ahchee in psd .
But also I agree that our money is better saved for Lachie Neale and Warner

Pick 1 gets $30 000 dollar bonus . Pick 1 would be the player coming to our club . It would say we dont rate you to Dursma if we didnt pick him #1 and start him off disgruntled before we even nominate him at pick #4 . Sends the wrong message . By all means use pick 2 to nominate academy players .
It's interesting that the Crows bid on Ugle-Hagan with the top pick in 2020. Was he head and shoulders the best prospect that year? I don't have a great memory of that draft class. Every other time that a draft prospect was earmarked to a club through F/S or academy he's fallen, probably farther than he should have (Ashcroft brothers, NDaicos, Sam Darcy).

I wondered the same thing. Maybe he agreed to it given future earning potential would be massive. The trigger for the second year might be on big money.

I hope the AFL isn't paying him outside the cap or something.
I'd say he got a partial payout of his remaining contract with the dogs. They aren't paying anything in the future doesn't mean they didn't pay anything at all.

Why is everyone so keen on Ah Chee?

I get that he would be free but 5 years on likely 700-800k is quite a lot of money.

I suspect we want to keep our cap space for a go at Lachie Neale next year and possibly even Jed Walter. Then maybe a Chad Warner the following year.
Saving cap space down the track makes me think about all ink spilled over clubs like Essendon and Hawthorn and their supposed war chests that were going to enable them to bring in Harley Reid (nope) or Zac Butters (nope).

It's very easy to plan two years into the future only to find that all the A-graders you planned to target have signed long-term deals to stay with their current club.

Simple, allow clubs to bid. If it’s matched that player doesn’t get the bonus but the first pick of the team with the first pick in the live draft.

Another rule on a rule. But until academies etc are all axed just gotta keep bandaging

I believe dogs were wanting to tear it up during the year but the AFL wouldn’t let them because they didn’t think it was a good look to tear up the contract of a troubled young indigenous player.

I’m assuming it’s basically been torn up and rewritten, but this way it looks a bit better now that he’s somewhere with a fresh start with a ‘restructured’ deal instead of getting axed mid year. JUH probably agrees to it too to help his long term earning potential.

I’d assume in predraft interviews we’d gauge how he’d react to potential bids.

I’m sure we can find him a $30k HJs deal

JUH is awesome. He kicked 43 goals as a 21 year old. He was touted as a potential buddy coming into the system.

AFL contracts are printed on wafer thin paper.

The only real obligation you have is the initial contract. So if you trade for Harley Reid you are paying him his third year draftee salary, match payments etc. You can't use cap space to pay him $2m in 2026. From 2027 you can pay him $5m if you like.

Gold Coast don't have to pay JUH his WB contract, only WB do. If he was on 250k he could move and renegotiate to 800k, so he is just as able to negotiate the other way. Part of the deal with GC may have been that the price of a fresh start is a reduced salary. He could always have said no and stayed at WB for 2026 to earn his money while hanging out on Chapel St at 3am instead of playing, but a repeat of 2025 would probably end his career.

That said, the AFL paying him outside the cap would not surprise me at all.

Doesn't seem to have bothered Thilthorpe.

Adelaide bid on Ugle-Hagan at pick 1, then took Thilthorpe. It doesn’t seem to have affected Thilthorpe’s relationship with the club at all.

That's a nonsensical agreement.

The cash rewards is to the no 1 for being the top prospect for their year. A reward for the effort and determination they have put in so far.

IF Patterson is considered the top prospect AND WC select him, then he should be more that deserving of the reward. Because we have deemed him the best.
If GC match the bid, it ****en unfair to Patterson to have the cash taken off him and given to our next selection.

P1 gets the cash end of story. No need for additional complications
